The benefits of having an HONEST guy to work on your equipment. He pulled a part from his boneyard to do the repair. Saved his customer money in doing so. He could have easily replaced the carb, made money on the part AND labour. Good on you Don. He’s saved my bacon a couple times already. Anyone in Ontario within a reasonable distance should seriously consider going to him for any small engine work.

Apparently it's a thing in engineering, called "planned obsolescence." It's not necessarily the engineers that decide this, it's the executives and Briggs is definitely guilty of this. It's one of the reasons it stuck with flathead engines for so long when other companies like Honda, Kawasaki and Kohler went to overhead valve designs. The executives wanted money, by any means necessary. If I am going to buy an engine these days it's either Honda, a reputable clone like PowerMore or Kohler. I won't even touch Vanguard since they are as finicky as the other Briggs I have had and that goes for the Daihatsu made Vanguard I had in one tractor.

Nice repair, explained very clearly. I adopted an abandoned Craftsman with a B&S 1350, so this is relevant to me. But I sure wish my engine had a throttle control like that one you worked on. Mine is the "always full throttle" version. It hurts my soul sometimes when I start it!

I wish I had throttle control on my little Honda HS35, it's a set throttle too. Probably with some modifications I can do it but I would rather buy a Honda GX200 and throw it on there as the G150 seems to be a little small power wise.

It looks possible to break that while using a screw driver to wedge it apart. Prying works great on metal stems, but not for plastic junk. In the future I would want to use a small puller for that knob, similar to the one that you had built for the bearings. That carb is just a bad design overall.

Piece of crap plastic parts on carb. They should have left off that big screen air cleaner that will only stop sand and big rocks. Note: snowblowers don`t run in sand and big rocks and do NOT need an air filter. Should have spent the money on a metal shaft that won`t break in the cold and the vibration from the engine. It would have been better and cheaper.

Cheap plastic China choke rod handle with shaft and even the shaft for the choke flap. Disgusting. Wow, my 8-26 blower from crappy tire from 1985 has zero plasic except for the lever handle and key.😂 Note that if the spring on a Tecumseh main jet under the fuel bowl is weak, it will be adjusting on it’s own from the vibration of the snowblower. So get a new spring so the jet has a bit of tension on it when you turn it. It should not turn easily.
