Holy shit. You spoke more words during the narration of this speedrun than I have spoken in the last 8 months.
@jonaskoelker5 жыл бұрын
Runner says the script is ~3500 words. Spread over 8 months, that'd be 462.5 per month, ~15.4 per day or ~1 per waking hour. May I suggest you get out more? ;-)

@9:27 Jumping down and taking damage and that delay is faster than just drop down from above? That crouch animation felt like ages.
@DavidXNewton3 жыл бұрын
I know, it feels like years but if you run them side by side the damaging way is faster! I actually messed it up a little here, you can drop down further to the left and still go in the door, saving a bit more time

first tool assisted speed-run i've seen/ I used to think it was 'cheating' but now i see it's just a different kind of challenge. You have to know a lot more about how the game works to do it this way it seems.

That's right, I don't think I understood them at first either but it's about measuring your skill at writing a program to play a game, testing your knowledge of the internals of the game and how to exploit them :)

I like to see this game in TAS but I don`t like the level 4 skip. It shows less of the game. Some questions for this run: You fight a lot. Is`nt it possible to jump through all the guards? What emulator do you use? DosBox? Can`t you use the fall and bounce against the wall bug/glitch more often? Will there be a new TAs attempt some time?
@DavidXNewton5 жыл бұрын
The answer to all of these is "maybe" :) The emulator is a Java-based one called jpc-rr, which is more geared for doing TAS recordings than DOSBox is. It's probably possible to jump through all the guards, but sometimes the amount of time you'd have to take to line yourself up exactly to do the jump would be more than it takes to just swap through them. I think that the fall/bounce only works when you fall off a 1-tile-wide gap right next to a wall, but it's possible that there are other possible places I've missed!

on level 8 you can actually skip the first fight by timing your jump to go to the ledge and holding on dropping down and holding on again

Regarding the level 9 bug that keeps the jaws open. I think understand what's going on. If you watch kzbin.info/www/bejne/iV6zaYF5fJaEipIm58s you'll see a similar bug of the same kind. Jaws stay open if you're on a different altitude. However the game for some reason is not registering the prince on the same altitude so therefore they stay open. There maybe something in the programming in which the jaws activate from conventional climbing and falling.
@cannot-handle-handles2 жыл бұрын
Great video - it uses a couple of other tricks I hadn't seen before, like another gate skip at the end of level 9: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iV6zaYF5fJaEipI

So you skipped the first 3 levels... what's the point of the fake record?
@DavidXNewton4 жыл бұрын
The point of the TAS is to get to the end of the game as fast as possible through any means excluding outright cheating. The “practice mode” shortcut to skip up to level 4 is listed in the manual, so I think that it’s well below even all the guard-skips and other tricks here on the cheatiness scale
