I'm one of those people who has a post-it permanently making the maps in the books, has bookmarked all maps of ASOIAF and considering which map to buy first for my home. However, irl, I can lose my orientation in a trice.

I think I will eventually opt for the gorgeous work of Michael Klarfeld klaradox.de/en/galerie/westeros/ yet on the other hand, there's the sober realistic approach. And yes, I've ordered my map blanket for marathon GOT watching.

Dude this video series is incredible, thank you for all your efforts in making the lore of the land clear and easy to follow it certainly fills a few gaps in my understanding. +1 subscriber. Also as a native English speaker from England I see you criticised occasionally for mispronunciation but considering it Is not your first language let me tell you that you are doing a stellar job my friend. Congratulations keep it up and keep them coming! Best of luck!

@Turk of moonland I never said that! I said that the dothraki a FICTIONAL ethnic group has its inspirations from all those People i counted.. Its like the Rhoynar, antoher FICTIONAL Empire in GRRMS World that has similarities with ancient mesopotamian but some meso american Cultures...but in real life they had nothing to do with each other..

Don't insult _actual_ mounted warriors by comparing them to the imbecile Dothraki. None of those you mentioned relied on suicidal charges against formed--up infantry.

I'm sure that this is all legitimate from the point of view of GRR Martin but the Dothraki make no damn sense. There are supposed to be so _many_ of them but they have no economic base except for looting and slaving. Please don't mention the Mongols because they _had_ a herding economy and fought by fire and maneuver. There were never that _many_ of them but their foes had to refer to them as hordes because losing to their actual numbers would be disgraceful. The Dothraki are light cavalry who rely on hair-on--fire charges, in other words suicidal. sites.google.com/site/grreference/
@ScrivaTV6 жыл бұрын
They take tolls from passing caravans. That's a thriving business, considering how many traders cross Dothraki Sea to reach eastern lands.
@willinnewhaven32856 жыл бұрын
A drop in the bucket to support the numbers that GRR Martin has his characters talking about. However, that kind of illusion, concerning the Mongols, the Huns etc, in the day because losing to the real numbers would have been disgraceful. Martin started off talking about them as mounted archers but then he gave them a bullshit chest-beating culture and the habit of making ferocious charges instead of engaging in fire and maneuver like all successful light cavalry did. They are unconvincing. The idea that armored knights and men-at-arms would fear them in melee is nonsense. The swords Martin gave them would easier slit their own throats than deal with plate.

The Dothraki are clearly inspired by the Yamnaya steppe peoples, or rather Scythians, I would not say they are Mongolian inspired because they don’t use bows and they seems to be more Caucasian. The Jhogos Nhai seem to be the Mongolian inspired people of the eastern reaches of Essos. Even the look of the Dothraki is close to the description of Yamnaya peoples as tall and dark eyes and hair.

Why do the Dothraki consider farming a sin??

It's just their culture. They believe a man should fight and ride a horse, not work on a farm.

so if daenerys took all of the dothraki to westeros, who's left to rule the dothraki sea?
@ScrivaTV7 жыл бұрын
Well, for sure not all of the dothraki went with Daenerys. Even if every khal submitted to her, women and children had to stay in Essos, and since they stayed, then some riders were left with them for the protection. It must be that Dosh Khaleen took over the Dothraki Sea as vassals of the Mother of the Dragons.
