Great tip. One thing id mention as a Tubliss user. Yes lower pressure usually makes the tread last longer, but the lower pressure makes the carcass weaker over time. Not only does that negatively effect performance, it also makes the tire more prone to punctures and increases the chance of an impact bending the rim. Just keeping it real
@MrBeefsnorkel3 жыл бұрын
would you say going with heavy doody tubes is the best medium then? instead of running tubliss and running em' til the sidewalls go weak from running super low psi?
@briansmale5457 Жыл бұрын
Maybe it's because i'm down here, but when i was told about about double tubing in the 70's, what we did was only double up on the part of the tube that sits against the spokes. The theory was, when the tyre/tube compressed against the spokes this is what punctured the tube.

Never seen this before and I hate to criticize anyone but it's very important if you change a flat to check the inside of the tire for sharp objects stuck in the tire that can puncture the new tube if not removed . I always wait to tighten the rim lock until after I’ve seated the tire and after I’ve reduced the air pressure to normal operating pressure. The reason I wait until I’ve reduced the tire pressure to normal operating pressure is so that the rim lock bites down on the tire where the tire would normally sit properly inflated. Anything wrong with doing it that way? (I think you set the normal tire pressure after you tightened up the rim lock.) If I seat the tire, then tighten the rim lock down and then reduce the tire pressure to normal operating pressure often times it can make the exposed tire bead a bit uneven. Also, later when I go to replace a tube and pull one side of the tire off, I notice that the tire bead is always kinked where the rim lock bit down on the tire when I had high seating pressure in it. Therefore to me it seemed to make sense to tighten the rim lock down on the tire where the tire would normally sit under normal operating pressure. Is tightening the rim lock after setting normal tire pressure the wrong way to do it?

Are there industry standards for heavy duty vs super heavy duty thicknesses? If hd is 2mm and super hd is 3 in theory double tubing offers an extra mm of protection against punctures?
@markalan40262 жыл бұрын
When shopping for tires/tubes recently, I noticed Rockymountian has ultra heavy duty tubes which are 4mm thick, I thought that would most likely be overkill for my needs, and opted for the 3mm tubes instead... Plus I figured the extra weight and the added pita to install for an amateur like myself wouldn't be a good idea. Anyways, I'm wondering if going with the 4mm tubes to begin with, rather than double tubing would be the same, or better perhaps?.. I mean idk myself, but this guy seems to be quite knowledgeable about tires, so he'd be the one to know I suppose.

LOL -- I usually dont respond to guys that write such nonsense but in this case I figured I would. I do 400 plus tire changes a year -- yes-- Then go to my site and check out my hundreds of magazine project builds all with new wheels and look for the butcher marks. Think your confusing my speed and confidence at changing tires as someone who doesn't care about the rims. Watch again and you will see I make no scratch or damage-- that is years of experience-- However, I am totally up for you giving me a lesson on how to do it better :-) I am in So cal and Utah areas a lot and would love to meet up to have you school me on how its done -- -
@SublimeSkillz074 жыл бұрын
Whoa easy there killer!! I'm just stating my opinion from what I observed. When there's no clearance between the tire bead and the edge of the rim and your shoving the tire iron in and out between them, your scratching the rim. That's why there's no mar tire changing machines. Again, I highly doubt from my observation that out of the "400 plus," tire changes you do a year, if you were to ask the owners I'm pretty sure a lot of them would not say their rim came out unscathed. And it's a good thing that you don't respond to guys that write such nonsense because you obviously can't take constructive criticism well. And your still not coming anywhere near my rim. LOL
