Stanhope is low key one of the bravest stand-ups you'll ever see. He's very respected by other comics, but he's never been part of a 'clique', never compromised, never apologised, and always killed it. He's a comedian's comedian because he's never sold out. He's never presumed to be anything other than a stand-up comedian. There's a lot of top tier stand-ups around today, but I don't think anyon captures the base line stand-up attitude of Lenny Bruce quite like Doug Stanhope.

@@TrollingHistory Chubby Brown is just offensive (as well as being sadly unfunny). He just uses offence and vulgarity to shock, that's all he does. Doug is vastly different as the course language is very much secondary and he has inherent truth and positivity underpinning the stories. It's a very personal perspective which is shared. Chubby Brown is rightly banned sometimes because he's intentionally deeply offensive in a very negative way. He punches down and intentionally derogatory to people. Doug is very self reflective and often is the butt of his own jokes. Can't see Chubby Brown anywhere near the same.

15:19 this bit is one of the best jokes I have heard in a long time. hilarious, thought provoking, and perfect economy of words. You can tell he worked that one out for a while until it was flawless, and he delivered it just right. Stanhope is one of the most underrated and self sabotaged comedians out there.

This guy's freaking genius. He literally told a story about his mom committing suicide and it was the funniest part of the whole show. Like how??

That segment on his mothers suicide was probably one of the most uncomfortable comedy routines I have ever witnessed. Its also amongst the funniest i have ever seen.

You should watch the Redbar, they critic former child Celeb Donkey Lips new home. He has his father's ashes in a Stella Atrois glass covered in Saran Wrap. That was Dark.

Doug's so good that other comedians get a bit grumpy when he's mentioned. They love him but he's so good they get exasperated at the idea that they might be compared to his rasping, endless music of tender obscenity.

Depends what comedians you're listening too. There seems to be a circle and I love em all and they seem to love each other.
