Holy crap this is a famous car. I never thought I would see Doug Demuro review this. The Jaguar Xj220 is obviously nearly as famous now as it was in the early 90s when it came out. Damn it was famous then though. A production car that reached 210 mph? In the early 90s a car with a v8 engine that was not an f1 car that could reach that speed was insane. Yes of course the car did not sell well but they only made a few hundred anyway. Now this thing probably isn't such a big deal by todays standards but as he says in the video it was a world record at the time.
@imachavel5 жыл бұрын
@A real bisexual petrol-head remember it is a 30 year old car. Differential technology, engine output, aerodynamics and even things like dual clutch were in an infancy by comparison of todays standards. Still, what a cool car for the year it came out. Its a beast. Beautiful. Yeah but infotainment and shit back then was not big. If I am not mistaken cars only started upgrading from carburetors to fuel injectors like 10 years before this car came out. It is an element of genius for the time it was released the way a horse and carriage were like the Ferrari's of the 1500s. Lol

Nope, it was the two catalytic converters that took power down by 50bhp. Not to mention, the rev limiter. With both of these removed the car would hit 217 on the Nardo test track. Also, what most of you don't realize is that despite it saying Jaguar, it's really not. All of the work was outsourced to the TWR.

It was quite common in the 1960s and early '70s for people to siphon petrol from parked cars at night. By the mid-80s, practically every car had a locking fuel cap (or a locking door covering the fuel cap). Cars sold in Britain (and, I expect, the rest of Europe) today all have a locking mechanism to prevent unauthorised access to the fuel.
@nonenowherebye Жыл бұрын
I figured that the point was to keep people from stealing the Jaguar fuel cap.
@kuchenblechmafiagmbh1381 Жыл бұрын
Yes, there are literally three types, the simpliest are these lockable fuel caps like here or on other (cheap) cars without or with optional central locking, these have also fuel doors without a lock but a recess for your finger so you can simply flip it open. And the other two types have normal fuel caps but the door is unlocked from the inside (on the Golf/Jetta Mk IV it's in the center console next to the parking brake/handbrake, on the Octavia I it was in the center dashboard next to the other buttons for things like heated rear window, ESP/ESC or Diff lock on 4WD) or on most recent cars you just push it in and it flips open (and when you lock the vehicle, the bolt with the spring will rotate and lock).

Absolutely. It's so unsurprising that buyers sued Jag. Look at the interior door handles amongst other things (Jag parts bin) and all the obvious design afterthoughts (typical 'old' Jag mentality) everything was scrimped. You missed the most interesting quirk of the XJ220: it was built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing on behalf of Jaguar. Walkinshaw was famous for running the Group C Jaguar factory team which dominated the WSC in the late 80's and early 90's.
@thomas3165 жыл бұрын
Didn't it use a version of the 6R4 rally car engine developed by Williams? 🤔
@dylansmit38835 жыл бұрын
@@thomas316 It did and it didn't. The twin turbo version was adapted from the Metro's engine by Walkinshaw for the XJR-10 and XJR-11 Le Mans racers. That 800+ hp engine was then tamed for road use after turbos were banned in Group C racing.
@fishflake12095 жыл бұрын
It goes further than that. Jaguar’s racing division wanted to pull out of IMSA in the early 1990s, but was obligated to continue motorsport operations in North America in 1993. So, TWR provided a fleet of XJ220s and full technical support to the FastMasters series, an invitation tournament between over-50 racers held that summer at Indianapolis Raceway Park. So you had 40-plus senior citizens, some of whom had not driven a lap in anger in decades, racing against each other in one of the most finicky super cars ever built, around a 5/8-mile short track. It was insane. Of course, if you waited to finish the entire video, Doug could tell you all about it.

When pointing your hands out. Picture your hands. Extend in front of you. Handprint facing your shoes. Then twist flip to see your handprint now facing towards your forehead. Makes sense? But no. The concealment slides forward and drops. Exposing the headlight assembly. That mechanism. Sounds exactly like ROBOCOP. The car was inspired by his helmet. Notice the contrast? Gray. Black. Etc.
