A heated screen is quite common on endurance race cars. Its easy for them to mist up while racing - especially in the rain - and a heated screen helps without needing a massive heater system.

@pbe69652 жыл бұрын
@@ber-js5we it's still very impressive compared to most cars, but considering the price range and the fact it's supposed to be a somewhat radical supercar / borderline hypercar, it became quite slow. Mind that an S Plaid is doing it in 2 seconds, you can buy almost 20 of them for the same price, and it's basically a rolling saloon instead of a striped down version. Or 2.7 with a Nissan GTR if you want to stay away from electric, for something that's still very usable as a daily driver. Hell, even an Audi RS3 is doing 3.1 and it's one of the most bland, unimpressive "sport car" you can buy nowadays. The power delivery is also something else, you'd have to be a very talented driver in these days to get these machines near the limits without killing yourself, the new supercars are way easier and faster (some will consider these are drawbacks though, but I remember a Tog Gear episode in which they tested the xj220 and they were already terrified from it, super fast in straight lines but tricky in corners). Doug's attention and description of all details is the best you can get. Every car he reviews it's like he's known them forever. He really does his homework and his ability to convey it all clearly is amazing. Then when he drives the cars he makes you feel the experience.
@FrowningIke3 ай бұрын
I beg to differ. He said the XJ220 was supercharged when it was twin turbocharged. I'm a fan of his reviews but he makes a lot of simple mistakes like this. So his homework is the one thing that needs improvement. Also he doesn't understand that no AC fogs up the windscreen, hence the heated windscreen. Not a luxury, a necessity.

THANK YOU! Been dying you to review this car for awhile now since you are one of the few KZbinrs that can actually have access to one. I’m truly amazed you got to experience it in the flesh. Back from when manufacturers were vying for dominance in GT/GT2 and the big show Le Mans . Albeit that car development really pushed boundaries from mid 60’s into the 70’s but the 80’s and 90’s had a real boon in that front. Carbon fiber made drastic and massive impact in what was possible. Glad to see this and hopefully you’d get a chance of some more rare exotic’s of yesteryear .

They did not make 53 XJR-15. They produced 50 total examples, and 2 prototypes. This was confirmed by Peter Stevens. A common misconception, but as far as im aware, the '53' number is inaccurate

As a huge Need for Speed 3 Hot Pursuit fan, any time there's a video like this on the XJR-15 (or any supercar from that era), I'm instantly hooked in, because of the showcase videos in that game, and the mystic surrounding these cars. And you can feel that energy from Doug when he's driving! Also, the XJR-15 was also in Need for Speed 4 High Stakes as a DLC.

I'm a car guy and have been my whole life (about the same age as Doug DeMuro), I can't believe this is the 1st time time I'm seeing this car. It's beautiful and timeless, wow. Jaguar has made some beautiful cars, and had it's share of flops (while owned by Ford) this car is gorgeous and holds up to super cars to this day in looks. Amazing. edit: mind is blown that this is 1991! wow... The XJ 220 was the Jag I knew of, was cool, like the Diablo (way cooler) I never knew this other Jag existed, and back then I probably would have thought it looked ridiculous lol.. Seeing it now, it fits right in with 2022 super cars, that is CRAZY for a 30 year old car. Old school Jaguar is bad ass, worthy of Bond movies and OG super car status.

Great to see a feature on this one! I only have one remark - the styling wasn´t at all out of place or weird in 1991, it was rather exactly on par with the trends. I was 18 back then and I been a car nerd since birth. All cars I drew myself in 1991 looked like this! Also - swoopy aero-designs like this had been shown on concept cars all through the 80ies, with an increase after 1985 and a climax during the early 90ies - cars like GM´s Buick Wildcat, Corvette Indy and Pontiac Banshee, the Peugeot Proxima, loads of Japanese ones, like the Subaru SOL 21C, the Mitsubishi HSR, the Nissan ARC-X, the Toyota AXV II, etc - even the old Italian design houses Bertone, Pininfarina, Fioravanti, Italdesign and Zagato produced a lot of soft aerodynamic shapes during this time.

Not sure if you are from the US or not, but over here we had a variant of the Mitsubishi 3000 GT called the Dodge Stealth. It had been around since 1990. At first glace of this Jag, it definitely invokes images of that Stealth in its RT/TT trim.

I can't believe you failed to mention that there was an XJR-15 racing series in 1991 as as support event for Formula 1 at the Monaco, Silverstone and Spa races. One of the drivers was Tiff Needell, and other famous drivers too like Derek Warwick and David Brabham.

@@einautofan6685 Except unlike the BMW M1 Procar, with XJR-15 the cars weren't factory-provided but private individuals actually bought those really expensive cars and then hired drivers.
