I've owned 30+ cars over the years (including 3 Corvettes, a '09 BMW M3 Sport conv't, a '69 Camaro Z-28, a '72 Datsun 240-Z and '92 Acura NSX) and by far, this Lexus is the BEST car I've ever put in my garage.

@MercOne2 ай бұрын
How it is a value when it doesn't do anything better than the competition? It's priced the way it is because a higher price would put it in direct competition with cars that would smoke it in anything that doesn't concern reliability. How is a car that under performs the competition a value? A value compared to what?
@MiahV0072 ай бұрын
@@MercOneA better value buy than the BMW 850i Xdrive for example. This car you’d be able to keep for 15 years, EASILY. Most people aren’t constantly drag racing or street racing their 850i anyways. Getting “smoked” does not mean much when you’ll LITERALLY have more power than 99% of cars and SUVs on the road.
@MercOne2 ай бұрын
@@MiahV007 Just because you can keep a car for 15 years does not make it a better value. Value means you're getting a better or comparable car for less. Better all around performance is what every other similar car on the market does better than the LC500 which is why it is a slow seller in a slow selling segment. Just because a car can last 15 years doesn't mean squat when it comes to value and "most people" looking at cars in this class aren't buying them to keep them for 15 years either. They're on the next hot thing in a few years. No case made for it being a value when it is worse at every metric than a 850i. Reliability and longevity aren't what drive this segment and it isn't working for Lexus' RWD cars because they're too outdated. IS, RC, LS and LC need help. Make a modern car with modern performance that is reliable at the same time. That is an achievement, not saying a car with an engine from 2008 is reliable. Being reliable is the least it can be with an engine that old.

It's expensive enough to be unaffordable to most people, but also too cheap to achieve "exotic" status. Your buyer has to be someone who doesn't give AF about what the neighbors think, can afford to drop 100k on a weekend car, and also happens to be an enthusiast who thinks NA V8s are cool. Sadly that's a very small customer base.

The LC500 has always been a great looking car, even after seven years since it came out and it's still never boring to look at, inside or outside. And yet it still stays old school with that awesome 5 litre naturally aspirated V8, probably one of the very few car makers left to do it that way without turbos. I still would love one of these some day; it's not as fast or agile as other cars, that's for sure, but I would never be disappointed owning something like this. Probably the only drawback is in order to get the improved interior tech, you have to pay full price for the car. while the slightly older ones are vastly cheaper to buy, even though they're limited in with that awful Touch Remote system. Agreed. I have a 22 model, and I'm used to the touch pad, so it's not an issue. Also, concierge and voice modes should be used so you don't have to fool around with the TouchPad while driving. Again, I have no issue with the pad while driving. I also went to the lexus dealership to see the 2024 model to consider upgrading, and I didn't like the look of the touch screen placement. Looks like an afterthought, which is exactly what it is. The integrated screen looks better.

@curthelling19513 ай бұрын
Hey Doug, the camera button that displayed the rotating vehicle does more than you revealed. That was simply a preview mode which is not available when the car is being driven. If you manipulate the icons on the left side of the screen you are provided with an overhead view that will even show what's under the car for a while and two forward-facing views which produce a very useful image especially when parking. There is also a button that allows you to select automatic display of the screen when going slow or not. I own the coupe and absolutely love the car. The trunk in the coupe is also large enough for two rollerboard suitcases and a couple of totes. Unlike the much smaller convertible's trunk.

As a German, i think the Problem with Lexus (at least here in Europe) is the Pricing. Don't get me wrong, i love Lexus. I bought a brand-new Lexus IS-F in 2011 and owned it until 2017. Never had Issues with it. But my God was it expensive compared to (at the Time) a BMW M3, Audi RS5 (over here in Europe we had an Audi RS5 with a different Look but still V8 before the 2013 one you got in the USA) etc. That Lexus Dealer in Frankfurt am Main, Germany also has a Lexus LFA with 0 Miles/Kilometers on it and back then they tried to sell it for 399k Euros. Nobody bought it. Now when i was there a few Months ago, they still have it for Sale, but now at 900k Euros. Still nobody wants to buy it. Same is true for most Lexus Models, i have no Clue why that is. Toyotas sell like hot Bratwurst in Germany, but Lexus? Very rare Brand to see on the Street for some Reason That said, i'd love a Lexus LC 500 with the V8, but oh my God is it expensive. Don't know about North America, but Lexus is mostly more expensive than any Audi, BMW or Mercedes-Benz Cars in the same Category here in Germany. So maybe that's why Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps

17:46 This is actually a callout to the seats in the SC430, which had the same detail, except using a metal Lexus badge. Since Toyota has shut down all V8 production, it’s safe to say this is probably, most likely, definitely going to be the last V8 LC500. Which is a shame. That new infotainment is the kiss of death of that generation. The GX460 was also graced with a modern infotainment a year or two before it was replaced.

@thegourmetgolfer554419 күн бұрын
I was looking for this. The new screen is probably way more user-friendly, but the older one was integrated into the design of the dash and looked waaaay nicer. The new one just looks like Lexus stuck an iPad onto the dash and called it a day. I disagree with Doug's take that the '24 will be the most desirable in the future. 15 yrs from now, all LCs will have dated tech/interfaces so I think the more beautiful (aka the integrated/track pad) versions will be the most desired. Plus I have that track pad in my UX and it's really not that bad. You get used to it after 1 day

No way! The old screen looked like a cheap 80s laptop design. The new screen looks just fine and makes the car look properly modern.

Finally someone said it. I was looking for this particular comment. The old design was just better. It was integrated into the natural lines, out of the way, symmetrically correct. Now they just put a cheap plastic stuck on looking screen that ruined the lines. If anything, it’ll just age faster. Doug seems to be too fussed about “technology” in some cars. Does it connect to Bluetooth and play music, CarPlay maybe.. that is the furthest extent people realistically use their infotainment 95% of the time. But nooo… more screen, more better.. Honestly, horrible take Doug. Especially give what kind of car this is.
