This is perhaps the best of all guides for understanding Elite Dangerous binds that I have ever come across. Only because I'm in the midst of creating a written guide, based 75% on this video, can the amount of work that went into this (and every other guide!) , that D2EA, oh hell, I'm just gonna call him Karl, has made (and continues to make) is amazing. Thank you my friend!!

I am a victim of being unaware of how volatile your key binds are and I am struggling to remember them all. Now that the developers have failed for 10 years to introduce an in game solution to prevent people from having to start binding from scratch, I have this awesome video guide to help me understand how crazy the situation really is, and help me preserve my key binds in the future. Thank you sir you are a legend!

This is extremely helpful and should be presented on the ED forum as a sticky or what ever they call it at the top of the site. You have presented the best presentaion I've ever viewed in regards to setting configs. I apologized if you covered it and I somehow missed it. But, I'm wundering, if one can utilize a gamepad in addition to a hotas. Obviously not at the same time, but when in different modes. For instance, while outside your ship, walking, running and interacting with various objects and weapons. I personally utilze a Warhog stick and throttle to fly and all my configs for driving the SRV are the same as my configs for my ship. But it's almost impossible to utilize it during the various times I leave my ship.

Hey Astro, nice Video. I even learned something new and I played Elite for 5 years now. Those Accelerate/Decelerate Axes under the Driving Throttle-Section: those are meant for Driving-Pedals - if you happen to have a Steering-Wheel-Controller with Gas-/Break-Pedals lying around. ;-)

I did it twice! Thanks for the marathon effort. As a newbie it's still a little difficult to determine what some of those buttons are for but this has been an immense help. Be well.
@TheLukemcdaniel Жыл бұрын
I didn't notice it being mentioned, but most buttons/keys also have a hold option. The best example of this is how I use it for the fsd and lights/night vision. I set a particular button on my hotas(soon to be hosas) to be the activate fsd, then I set the same button for supercruise but held it down for a moment when I set it. Press the button and it'll auto-detect, but I can force a low wake supercruise by holding it a second. The same goes for turning my lights and night vision on/off. Also, the driving fwd/rev axis being split, may be for some massochist that wants to use hotas for the ship, and a steering wheel/pedals for the srv, and a gamepad or m/k for on foot. If you have a rudder pedal set with air brakes as well as the rudder axis, that would give you 2 separate axes you could use for it as well.

I recently purchased a new controller (WarBRD grip and stick). Couldn't understand why control (Ship Rotation) was so much worse than with my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. With the new stick I was experiencing a long delay in ship response followed by an excessive response (especially "pitch") to further movement of the stick. Watching this video I discovered I'd bound X, Y, and Z axes to "digital" inputs rather than the corresponding analog inputs. All good now. Thank you D2EA for the very helpful video.

If you have car pedals you will have an X axis for accelerate pedal, Y axis for brake pedal and Z axis for clutch (as an example), where cheap pedal sets will have a single axis which goes +ve for the accelerator and -ve for the brake, and neither pushed is central. Therefore you may have to use the same axis for "driving speed" with cheap pedals (or none, so you are using a throttle), or need it to be separate for more expensive pedals (such as from a logitech or thrustmaster set).

I did it. Probably the best 45 minutes I've invested in learning the game. Setting a deadzone on the joystick is going to be immensely helpful. My stick leans, I do a slow roll even when I'm not touching it.
@impulsiveDecider2 жыл бұрын
If you still experience that drift then I might have a tip for you. Step 1: you probably have tried this, but recalibrating through the operating system can fix this issue. Step 2: If your joystick is of higher quality, there might be a way to calibrate the potentiometer from the outside or next to no disassembly required. Look up a manual. Step 3: (A multimeter isn't required but recommended for this step.) If this joystick is not too expensive, try opening it up carefully to see if you can expose the potentiometer. There will most certainly be a screw attached to some kind of calibration system. There is usually some form of arcing plastic going around it. By shifting this plastic arc after loosening the screw you can manually set the middle of the potentiometer. For in depth guide, look up a disassembly guide for your device. Always fly safe ;)

I dislike KB and mouse control and use my Warthhog or Xbox controller depending on game. ED's reconfiguration as is your explanation of it usefullness and how to is the best in the industry.

and, if you make a copy of the keybind file in the same folder, rename it - and then also use a txt editor to change the 'PresetName' value in the 2nd line: you will get that file as a separate keybind-scheme in the dropdown menu (in options->controls) in-game. nice to have if you need different binding schemes (eg. VR / non-VR) and want to switch between them regularly

I didn't do it (I skipped a lot). But, on keybinding files I did just want to say, as well as making a backup, I recommend making your own presets (rather than just having the one set of "Custom" bindings). To do this, copy the "custom.3.0.binds" file and then rename the copy to something like "MyX52Pro.3.0.binds". Then edit this new file with notepad and change the 2nd line as follows: Save that and next time you run the game, you'll have "MyX52Pro" as one of the available presets (which you can still tweak later if you want). I have a whole pile of separate presets created in this way (for different sticks I've owned, for VR vs. non-VR, and even for specific in-game tasks such as SpeedBowl).
@Terickso274 жыл бұрын
Yeah I did it too! Good complete coverage. I am working on customizing my X52 for my liking and want to start to capture pictures and video so it really helped. One thing I would love to understand is how can I use the MODE switch on the X52 for various bindings. I would think that it should set to a different ID but I am guessing that it is not.
@ralfsenger2 жыл бұрын
I've seen this comment now. Not sure if you already found out, but to use the mode switch, you'll have to setup key bindings for every button you use on the X52, then for every mode, the same again. I just don't know if it is worth the effort, as I'm not sure what modes would make sense.

I was going to do a video like this for PS4 advising on what combinations to set but realised it wouldn't really work as everyone has their own preference for that. I just use voice control (it's a program called "speech2keys" ...which is free at github and there's also tutorials on youtube). It maps spoken phrases to (sequences of) keypresses. Particularly for the more complex command sequences (like docking or going to battle stations/setting various power mixtures) it's just way faster to say a command phrase/word than to try and remember which key/button I configured stuff to. I also use it to blast out standard phrases in textchat ("greetings", "Type 9 coming in for docking please stay clear of the entrance" etc. )
