Downton Abbey

Күн бұрын

The strong-willed and fiercely independent Lady Mary Crawley stumbles upon a surprising revelation that sends shockwaves through the illustrious halls of Downton Abbey. As the family prepares for a grand soirée, Mary inadvertently uncovers the clandestine romance blossoming in the shadows - a romance involving none other than the charming Matthew Crawley.
From Series 2 Episode 1: The first episode of the second series picks up the story in 1916 during World War I. Many changes have taken place at Downton Abbey because of the conflict which has greatly unsettled all the occupants. A new maid proves difficult and an announcement from Matthew Crawley stuns everybody, particularly Mary. Meanwhile, there are dramas and surprises for everyone from both above and below stairs as the war rages on and all are caught up in it in some way.
This is the official KZbin channel for Downton Abbey. Immerse yourself in the much-loved British historical drama, relive some of your favourite moments and tragedies, and keep up-to-date with the latest news.
The costume drama series, Downton Abbey, written and created by Oscar-winning writer Julian Fellowes, stars Academy Award-winner Maggie Smith as a Dowager Countess of an Edwardian English country house in 1912. The series portrays the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them, in a time before the last vestige of a century’s old tradition were stripped away by World War and the modern age. The all-star cast also includes Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern.

The scene with Mary and Matthew at the train station is one of the most beautiful and touching scenes in Downton Abbey. Michelle Dockery's performance is restrained, while we can feel all the worry and despair in her farewell with Matthew.

Actually it isn't just that. She was very proud. Anna was a simple girl and her inferior in class so she didn't feel the need to keep appearances around her. And she trusts Anna to keep all her secrets. I don't think she trusts her mother to be as discreet. Her mother could tell her father and she doesn't want the family to pity her. She hates being pitied. She's a proud and vain woman. That's why I love when Matthew brings out the softness and vulnerability in her. Which she effectively lost the day he died.

I love Mary's story in Season 2 and hated when Matthew said that both he and Mary deserve to be unhappy after Lavinia's death. For a self-centered character in Season 1, Mary was rather selfless throughout the second season, doing all she could for Matthew's happiness. As for Michelle Dockery, she looked so beautiful throughout this season. She is incredibly talented and she managed to capture every nuance of Mary's character, delivering both her venomous and sweet nature in different scenes absolutely perfectly. And to echo what everyone said, the train station scene was perfect.

As an Edith fan, I have to say that I really enjoyed the development she went through in Series 2. When we see her here in the first episode, she still has that tendency from Series 1 to be petty out of bitterness. However, as this Series goes on she finds a purpose in life and starts to think more about the needs of others. As Sybil nicely puts it in Episode 2x07, "You're so much nicer than you were before the war." I truly believe that Edith had some of the best character development of all of the characters. I also wonder if Edith knowing that Richard Carlisle is a newspaper mogul could be a hint at her future as a journalist. You can tell from that comment that she obviously reads the papers and seems interested in the goings on in the world.

Matthew is the best male character for me. His kind heart wins everyone over at Downton and even now still be a great value for the show. I read a lot of comments saying, "poor Edith", but Edith was nasty to Mary on many occasions. The worst thing Edith did was to write to the Turkish Embassy.
