So true. So many times the women were blamed. Like when King’s were not getting the baby boys they wanted, it was like geez woman this is your fault.... when in reality the gender is always determined by the sperm. Not that they knew that back then but still..... Back to your point, I completely agree. It made me love him more ❤️

Infertility is actually often a male problem. Sperm count, erectile dysfunction... When a woman is regular she is just fertile. If you can't get pregnant you may be timing wrong though. A woman is only fertile for 24 hours in 28 days.

I could never forgive Dan and the writers for killing Matthew. Dan Stevens wanted to get out of the show because he didn't want being type cast as Matthew from Downton Abbey, but he completely ruined the whole plotline. Mary was supposedly to live happily ever after with Matthew, probably with some problems here and there, but their marriage life was perfect! Love, wealth, an heir, and then suddenly Dan didn't want to be a part of the shows anymore and the writers had to change the whole story. It took me weeks to continue watching the next season after Matthew died. I even rewatched the whole bloody season 1 to 3 only to cure my traumatized heart from Matthew's death.

I just fought about it on reddit because so many were saying Mary had the same issue as Anna, the weak cervix, but I know it’s not the same issue because Mary couldn’t get pregnant, but anna could she just couldn’t keep the baby longer than a few months

@Witty Widow Invented, not in wide use. There's a big difference. Laparoscopy didn't really take off until the advent of miniature cameras, decades later. In 1920, it would have been used only if there was no other way, not on a routine, minor surgery, and that's assuming that Dr. Ryder was even qualified to use it.

How many episodes was it between the one where Sibyl died and the one where Matthew died? I thought when I watched the show it was only a couple, but maybe I remember that really wrong. When Matthew is talking to Sir Phillips, that's the episode Sibyl dies in, right? And I thought Rose only came to live with the Crawleys after the episode where Mary has George and Matthew dies.
@flyboy152
@flyboy152 3 жыл бұрын
Sibyl died around the middle of the 3rd season, in episode 5, and Matthew died at the end of the season, in ep 9, so only a few episodes between the passings. Rose had come to visit in Season 3, but she didn't come to live at Downton until the start of season 4. And yes, the episode where Robert is talking with Sir Philip us the one where Sybil dies.

@@murrayaronson3753 I'm pretty sure it was the same issue Anna had... Because when Anna mentions her fertility issue to Mary, Mary mentions that she also had an issue with fertility and only needed a small operation to fix it. The issue (confirmed for Anna) was a weak neck of the womb, which causes the baby to abort when it becomes too heavy to be supported. This is repaired with a cervical cerclage, a large stitch at the neck of the womb to provide more support for the growing baby.

"Stiff and formal" was the norm in that era for that particular socio-economic class. In fact, in all of society, in those days, people were very formal (by today's standards). Men and women had strictly defined roles and one was judged by how well one behaved. The above is the reason why those of Mary's class could spot, within minutes, someone who was not born to their class. Even a very successful person; who put on a veneer of the proper manners could not master the Intricacies of behavior (for many years).
