One thing's for sure, you can't mistake SRV's guitar. Best guitarist to ever walk the earth.

I saw him in a small blues club in Cleveland back in 1993. He rocked that joint for 3 hours. Best show I've ever seen and I've seen a lot.

Bird Nest on the Ground is a great CD. It's not rare. Doyle's son is around, but sadly he's passed.

Tommy Shannon is so under-acclaimed! His play is so distinctive and makes a huge difference on the overall sound!

You are right about that- 'Doyle's influence on Stevie's vocals! My understanding is that Doyle took SRV 'under his wing' & did help/coach SRV's vocals. BOTH MEN were truly talented. Sadly I feel there will never be another- of both men's talent that will ever come close!

Doyle wrote 'Too Sorry' in the mid-70s--during the Nightcrawler days. He recorded it in the early 80s with Robin Syler on guitar & bass. Then, when he knew Bird Nest was probably going to be released, Doyle had Stevie, Tommy and Chris Layton dub in their respective parts. One of my favorite songs Doyle wrote--and one of the first I ever heard him play (at home.)

I only saw him live once. In a blues club up in Cleveland about 25 years ago. Best show I think I've ever seen in my life. He rocked the house for 2-3 hours. Amazing. I'm sorry I didn't get to see him more.

Robin Syler was one of the best guitar players ever. Used to come by the house many moons ago. Doyle Sr and lil Doyle lived around the block. Way before Arc Angel! Great memories!

Man, you can really hear Doyle’s influence on Stevie in his voice. It’s the same way you can hear Albert King in SRV’s playing. You can hear Doyle in Stevie’s voice in both timbre and inflection. Makes me wonder how many people think that’s Stevie singing here.

Doyle & Stevie sure have similar singing voices!!! Doyle was 5 years older than Stevie, & the drummer for Stevie's older brother when Stevie was young, so I'm sure Doyle heavily influenced Stevie as far as vocals go.

Doyle should be just as famous as everyone else in the top of the blues game. Wish he'd have gotten more credit in the way Hunter and Barlow did with songs recorded by the Grateful Dead. It also occurrs in the comedy field of entertainment. It's damn near impossible, on your own, to keep writing classics or hits.

The album is Family Style released September 25, 1990. Track 1> Hard To Be (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Doyle Bramhall) Track 6> Long Way From Home (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Doyle Bramhall) Track 8> Telephone Song (SRV, Doyle Bramhall)

Stevie’s second to last album, In Step, released in 1989, had 4 songs co-wrote with Doyle. The House is Rockin’, Tightrope, Wall of Denial and Scratch-N-Sniff.

Adrian C, what “shuffle” are you referring to? There were many. Note...Doyle was known as the king of the shuffle on the drums.
@sandrakellstrom80972 жыл бұрын
I believe SRV had a much better voice, but the style is similar.
