Mainz has 'only' 204K HE DPM... but that's not nearly the whole story (and that still makes it 5th in tier out of 44). It has increased penetration, negating the need for IFHE, and thereby retaining its decent fire chance. Mainz also has great range and the best shell velocity, making her the best DD killer at T8. I would argue that Mainz is the best HE spammer in T8 as well for that reason. Add to that a 6km hydro and 4x6 torps... Total menace. My only real gripe with Mainz is that somehow she catches fire a LOT.

@@KGAnims Good point. The radar is a definite advantage, but Chapayev has much lower rate of fire. Still, a good competitor. Also has amazing shell velocity, although a little less so at range.

Love my Mainz! She was the first premium ship I got and didn't realize how much I would end up enjoying her. She's monstrous in Operations too, super fun there and a great credit farmer to boot.

I love the Mainz, I got it when it first came out and it´s been my go to CA in Tier VIII ever since. That 17 km range is really nice, I can´t tell you how many BBs I´ve burned down with it. I got really lucky and got the Mainz B from one of the Black Friday crates from the Battle Pass, so I´m quite happy. For those that don´t have it, I highly recommend it. I call it the ¨baby Hindenhurg.¨

Yes, CV spotting socks for everyone. But its especially true for ships that are dependent on stealth to play well - light CAs and DDs. I had a T10 Mogami game yesterday & the CV was on my flank. I didn't have fun

Light cruisers sometimes have better AA than heavy cruisers. For example, Shimanto has stronger AA than Mogami. As a DD main, I agree that it can be frustrating to get out-spotted. For me, radar is more of a counter than planes.

@@j_taylor I'm a lot more ok with radar though cause at least that feels like it's supposed to be a counter, and you can play around it a lot easier. There's basically no way to avoid getting focused by a CV if that's what they want to do, so it feels like it's more out of your control.

I adore this ship. As a cruiser main, she is everything that a cruiser is supposed to be. DPM machine that will explode if you sneeze at it. The lack of heal sucks, but because of the DPM, it kind of needs to be balanced. ETA: Inside 12km, her AP is so good.

They already have the ships to create the cl line. All premiums, but only one missing is a 9 I think. Hindy is the natural 10 to this theoretical line too. Always felt it's a wierd shift from hipper-roon, to the hindy. Give wg another crack at a German cruiser to swap trees w hindy too.

IMO the BEST T8 CA, better armor is better than the Bayard, but it's reload is unbelievable. Better range than Cleveland or Bayard. Can't blame the CV for NOT going after the NC; that things shreds planes at tier.

Bayard is imo just as good, if not better, because it has much better manoeuvrability which makes it so much easier to dodge incoming shots. The range is only slightly shorter but the reload booster in combination with higher HE alpha makes it much stronger if you catch a DD. Still Mainz is also a great ship.

Same! I like Bayard too and I also think that it might be better than Mainz mostly due to better conceal, better handling, better speed and of course MBRB. I've been playing it in ranked and my WR is looking good. Not sure about the AA part though.

I find that if you aim your guns on any ship by following the tip of the nose i always hit and barely get weird salvos. Of course if your dispersion is bad thats not something you can account for. But just imagine the line you see on the minimapp coming from their nose in the water and lead accordingly to just following where that line is going. Thats how i aim with light cruisers and battleships and get a lot of succes with it. Try it in a game and see for yourself ;). Might be difficult imagining the line while following where the nose goes towards but its worth the try no?

She is decent in Operations. It doesn't handle really well and feels pretty clunky. Yes, it has good guns, but one needs to remember - Mainz is only a light cruiser. Her armor was nerfed quite some time ago too.

Good ship, however I only play it in Ranked or any other t8 event where pushing up is actually possible. That hydro makes wonders in ranked. I think I lost like 2 games only, but I got like 90% of the time 1st spot on the team because it is so easy to carry.

N.C is probably more new player friendly. German battlecruisers are nice in certain situations while abysmal in others. Don't get me wrong I love mine, especially in asymmetric or in operations, but US bb line is a better overall foundation. But I'm just a guy on the Internet, so I might he talking out of my a*s 😂

Resources wise, the Schlieffen costs more to get than the NC. Besides that, it is very good at doing some missions like ribbon farming. I wont say you gonna be wrong with the NC ( pretty good ship, i even got the CLR version ), but i personally would choose a free T10 over a free T8.

4:10 Right there you answer your own question. The BB mains would complain to much about a cruiser line that is actually a threat to them. I mean just think back to how much people complained when the Pan-Asian CLs were announced, that they would "ruin top tier" and would be the most overpowered things to ever overpower. All because they had rapid fire guns. The cries of "won't someone think of the poor BB mains!" were loud and it lead to a lot of those ships getting fairly heavily nerfed in testing, and slowly rebuffed over time. The Pan-American CLs had HE at one point, with the same gimmick that Jacksonville gets with a slower than normal reload, and again the crying from BB mains caused Wargaming to remove the HE entirely, and replace the gimmick with one that honestly is a lot worse, while not buffing the reload rate of the ships to compensate for having lost the reason for their slower reload. Leading to those cruisers not really doing a whole lot. I'd LOVE to see a German CL line with 150mm guns and good rate of fire, but knowing this community, even if Wargaming only gave the T10 9 guns and a 5 second reload, they would complain to the highest heavens that it would be the most overpowered thing to ever overpower until Wargaming nerfed the ever living shit out of it.

Spanish cruiser Burstfire Used to give them more AP pen in testing. This allowed them to citadel broadside BBs who didnt respect heavy cruisers. This naturally got nerfed to the burstfire we see now where its 2 normal salvos so BBs can still be safe.

Dude that rng when people ramming islands is so op. Inwas freaking out. Situation: Ranked only me R. Lauria and a gouden leuw alive. Team red will win in points in a couple of seconds have 5k life. I come across an island and he is spotted broadsite to me sitting before and island. I thought nice gg i save the game. I shoot him with sap on the upper belt near superstructure with the all turrets. 1 hit around 2k dmg and the game was over before i had reload😥 To be honest i was to nervous because my stern turrets shoot the island and that was stupid. But bro a 5k gouden with a lauria and 6 bullets should be down. Fuck this rng with island 🏝️

personally i don't think there can be a german cl line, they only got the m class after the Nuremburg, it doesn't mean they can't but it seems like it might need some unknown designs or even some creativity, i'd rather guess it will be a cb line, the Deutschland, p class and o class, but i guess pq won't like it lol

pushing into a Mainz is not a good idea. Still getting down around 4.5 second reload is great for that little machine gun 150mm's. Still just the volume of fire just freaks out some BB players.

WG, make it official that its not a simulation as you always say, but then remove all this fake details and stats to not pretend to be more than a 3d dice rolling game for noobs.
