Before Fred opened his gym on St. Charles, he, Silverman, and Joe Bradley trained at the Lee Circle YMCA. As the story goes, that I witnessed, Fred would tell Joe "4 reps." Joe would then do 4 reps. Joe would do this not always knowing what the weight was. Most were intimidated by these guys. Nevertheless, If Fred saw terrible technique he was often helpful. He was a wealth of knowledge. Dr Squat was a fitting name for him. Those guys lifted big. I remember seeing Joe bench 405 with perfect form. When he weighed 132 lbs.
