I truly believe that porn will be considered the cigarettes of our generation. To think that only 30 years ago, a curious kid only had Playboy magazines, a VHS tape or two. Today, they have access to the entire internet - All the fetish, extreme, rough, degrading videos, things that adults of previous generations may have never seen in their lifetimes. And they will have viewed all of it before they hit puberty. Before they have taken Sex Ed in school.

For all men battling pornography I noticed the hardest part is when we are a month or two in abstaining then we get a random urge and we lie to ourselves that we have good balance and it’s been a month already which is what ultimately makes us give in and start from scratch, at least for me so fight off the urge by all means.

I'm basically an "addict" since age 11 (22 now) and I really feel and see the consequences of abusing my reward system for that long. A thing that motivates me is that even if you stay clean for 2-3 days (which is an incredible achievement for my standards) and relapse, there is still a lasting benefit from not giving your brain that senseless pleasure like overall better mood, being more social. So you don't start from zero, but it's also important to make sure not to "stabilize" your addict mind by jacking off 3 times in a row, which is easier said than done
@GareBear420 Жыл бұрын
Exactly and it makes sense. It's the same with any other addiction. You don't see former meth addicts that just occasionally smoke meth every now and then because they don't exist. You can insert any type of addiction, but my point is that our brains will try to rationalize and justify ANY reason to get that "kick" again. I made this mistake a lot with porn/masturbation and the only way to beat it is to abstain 100%. You have to be aware of yourself and these thoughts when they come and actively shut them down. Without that you'll be in an endless loop of relapsing, I can tell you from experience.

A virus that doesn’t get better but can steadily get worse. I’ve been an addict since childhood. For YEARS I’ve tried to quit. The struggle just to stop thinking about it is beyond comprehension. It warps your visual of people and it can warp you as a person. I know the feeling of self disgust all too well. It is hard to see the good in yourself when after all is said and done, you think how you’ve not only taken advantage of images of other people doing obscene explicit things, but it makes you feel like total garbage. I've abstained from watching porn and masturbation on and off for weeks or months at random times, and managed to quit for two years until I relapsed this August but stopped again somewhere around September or October after realizing just how boring masturbation is and how abnormal it is to watch other people copulate, but worst of all is learning that many of the women in these porn videos may very well be victims of sex trafficking (literally being raped for our entertainment). My addiction to porn has been rather effortless to put an end to, but the damage to my perception of women remains. There's a part of my mind that involuntarily tries to sexualize my thoughts about a woman I may think of and its disgusts me. I'm 24 now but deeply regret having been introduced to porn by peer influence at the early age of 13 and I'm sure my interactions with women could have turned out differently, especially with those who had an intimate interest in me. As pornography is addictive one needs more extreme images to get turned on, eventually one will want to act out such scenes, especially with younger users. The sexual violence statistics in juveniles committed against younger children are alarming and they are usually mimicing scenes they’ve witnessed in pornography. Anyone who thinks porn isn't an addiction (or can be) is lying to themselves. I was unfortunately exposed to it at a very young age and it's (unfortunately) been a main stay in my life since then. I've tried to quit it cold turkey so many times and it's caused alot of pain and suffering for me. I ultimately take full responsibility for it and don't blame anyone else, but this stuff is dangerous. I've also gone from watching softcore content to extreme hardcore stuff, which is pretty messed up. Furthermore, I've had sessions where I've literally watched it for 6 hours at a time and then done the same thing the next day. Furthermore, I started to move in to watching cam girls, which led me to spending I'd say around $3000 on these sites. Porn is a major problem, not only for me but for society as a whole. The quicker we recognise this and put it to a stop to it/censor it as best as possible, the better.

I used to masterbate not anymore bc I work very often , I work out and I’m very confident in myself to find a woman and do the dirty with her and if I’m single I know how to enjoy myself I keep myself busy so I never have time to masterbate . Find something else you enjoy just as much as whatever you’re addicted too or something that keeps you busy . I don’t smoke but if I did to quit smoking I would work out , or bike ride for a while go to a nice view have a nice lunch or dinner and enjoy the sunset that not only will tire me and give me a good time of rest but it will also take my mind off of whatever reason I’m smoking

Anything and everything we do at an extreme is an addiction and whenever you try quitting an addiction, you will go through withdrawals that will make you irritable, not pleasant to be around, it'll be hard, but it is possible. Quitting drugs, alcohol, porn, sugar, salt, medication, sweets, soda, ice cream; It's the reverse of building a habit, slowly quit little by little, day by day... It takes 90 days to successfully build a habit, it'll take you 90 days to also quit an addiction. There are stages you'll need to fight through, and each time you fight through those stages and succeed, the end/start get closer and closer. This is a rule for life, for anything and everything in life. I quit smoking in 2017, took about 3 months, little by little, with the aid of nicotine patches and support by haters that were surprised that, I, a heavy smoker that smoked the most in the group, was the one that was able to quit. People will be surprised because they don't expect it from you because you both come from the same place, and they hate to know you're doing better. They'll act friendly and supportive in front of you, but talk down on you and say things behind your back.

As we live in a technological era, we all get information much faster especially, if it's about watching porn and a movie that portrays perfectly this issue is Shame, starring Michael Fassbender, which is about a s*x addict's life that when he realizes s*x becomes a sort of drug, he gets in trouble affecting his closest relative "sister". So, that's why it is important to talk about topics like this with people like Peterson.

Sexual attraction becomes warped - The Coolidge Effect is what distinguishes PMO addiction from other addictions. - Stop watching porn, eliminate your triggers, and grow Don’t underestimate the utility of deprivation - Having the discipline to deprive yourself of what’s holding you back gives you the strength to move forward Porn makes you timid and weak Tell the truth (or at least don’t lie) - It’s crucial that you hold yourself accountable when overcoming an addiction - When you lie to others, you’re not just lying to them - you’re lying to yourself - If you violate your conscience you will pay

Hate to follow a different path but the man/woman stuff Dr. Peterson went on about is not answering Roommates question. The question was "what is it with women today" I think that the answer provide "it must be you" was sidestepping the question. To my observation, I think a lot of men think that women are expecting things from a man that may or may not be fundamentally important. As Dr. Peterson stated there is the primal laws of attraction. In the past and somewhat still today men have always been the hunters. Today, in most societies the roll of women has changed and therefore their wants and need have also changed. It is not hard to think back and define what a husband did and what a wife's role was. Today there has not been a very good dialogue between the sexes in mapping out a future. For example, physical attraction is great, but are your values, culture, expectations, the same?? So let me say NO it is to YOU, it could very well be women in your area that have a common outlook. If you look at the evolution of Disney shows as an indicator of children expectations then compare Snow White with High School Musical. Is it normal to have two girls fight over one man?? Was that man a prince or just a cute boy??? I don't know if you know where I am going with this but Prince charming has to be cute as well as rich nowadays. So where to we put strong family values?? Where do we put being hard working??? Where do we put open minded??? Is that all below rich??? Is that all below six pack?? In short, the roll of women is evolving faster than that of men. And as a last comment, directly to Dr. Peterson, men complaining about their wives, is an old stereotype based on the concept that matriarchs of the family controlled the household and put order in there spouses lives in order. Living this pattern entitle men to complain about there wives which has nothing to about their love for them. (if that makes sense)
