54:41 re: Sylvia Tabor’s DEXA scan, I had a scan done last December, eight months into a ketogenic diet with intermittent and extended day fasts and with the last 3 months carnivore except for kimchi and natto. My scan showed I had the bone density of a mid-20s male (I was 56 at the time and sedentary). My plan has been to remain carnivore and rescan on the same machine in Dec 2021, and I’m hoping for improvements because in Jan 2021 I added a ton of exercise (CV & resistance), polyphenols (Resveratrol & Pterostilbene) and NAD boosters (NR & NMN). I also tested over 90 blood biomarkers in Dec 2020, including DNA methylation from 2 different companies and GlycanAge. The latter came back with me having a biological age (based on inflammation markers) 15 years younger i.e. that of a 41 year old. I attribute this to 14kg weight-loss from a ketogenic diet (BMI 34.7 to 30.1). Not looking fwd to my CAC Scan this summer, but I need a baseline. On target for a BMI of 24-25 by Dec 2021...can’t wait to get my new DNA methylation results after all these interventions!

Paul - I have followed your videos for a few months now, and have found them to be beneficial to my journey. I started this in Dec last year after weighing in at 136kg - I was type 2 diabetic with high blood pressure and only getting fatter as I was prescribed Diabex to control my blood sugar. Soon after seeing a few of your vids, I commenced a keto diet, but didn't expect to see results so soon. I honestly didn't expect to see results so quickly, especially as I was not exercising. Unfortunately, my doctor was not completely on board with my choice of diet change, but I was sure that it was working, so I kept records of my blood pressure & sugar readings along with daily weight. To date I have lost over 25kg, dropped 2 pants sizes, my body has shrunk to levels not seen for over 20 years, I completely cut out the Diabex (dr doesn't agree with that), reduced blood pressure meds but am looking to reduce them further if I lose too much more weight as I am getting the occasional dizzy spell when I stand up. I won't say that I have reversed my type 2 diabetes as I am on a carnivore diet, so haven't been consuming carbs. Once I get to 100kg, I may introduce some carbs to see what result they have - I can always go back to carnivore if not happy with the result. I too found MCT oil and have been cooking in it as it doesn't burn like butter does. I also use it in a bulletproof coffee (breakfast), but was under the impression that it was good for you. If I shouldn't be using it, what should be used?

I would LOVE to talk to Dr Mason about my HH homozygous C282Y. My ferritin was measured at 991 in March after 2 months keto diet. It was suggested I get a genetic test for HH since all my liver markers looked healthy. I immediately donated blood then was retested. Ferritin went down to 600. Can I expect a ~30% reduction in ferritin with each successive blood donation? How low should I go? I have seen many docs suggest that the optimal range is in the 60s. Yet I've also seen Dr Mason say that anything below 1000 is not of major concern and that HH athletes actually feel lousy with ferritin below 500. Naturally, I am concerned with the ferritin effect on my organs. But another paper suggests HH is somewhat protective. See "Do Hemochromatosis Mutations Protect Against Iron-Mediated Atherogenesis?" Anyhow, I have lots of Qs.

I am a single carrier of one of the hemochromatosis genes. I was doing a strict keto diet years ago, fatty meat, veg, and no seed oils or grains/starches, Plus fasting 20 hours a day, and couldn't get my HbA1C below 5.1 I wonder if ferritin is what was causing my HbA1C to not go below 5. I've not been clinically in diagnosed with hemichromatosis, but through research studies, know my iron levels are slightly elevated in my liver.
@LTPottenger3 жыл бұрын
It's hard to get it below 5.1. I do a ton of fasting and that is where mine hovers. I also don't think you really want it lower than that anyway.

Is it possible that the doc with the joint dislocation problem is building muscle on a carnivore diet and so the joints have more support in a bio-mechanical way rather than a bio-chemical way?
@patrykjaniak70423 жыл бұрын
That's sound about right, but I'm not expert, Dr Paul needs to read your question.

I also have Elhers Danlos which is the same condition. Many dislocations when I was younger. I started weightlifting on and off and felt that has helped support the joints. I’m a month in on the Carnivore diet and have often thought that carnivore helps with building muscles which supports the joints.

Next is not meant to be offending. I'm the hardcore fan of Dr. Paul Mason. Could you update your audio quality to match the superior source of knowledge? Well, I take you are not the Audio Guy(like I am) but it is always so very,very much easier to listen lapel miked(lav) content. Somehow the laptop mic is sneaked on the track this time even you seem to wear lapel??? Proper Lav mic always beautifully low carb coats the speech content. Curiously it is also the cheapest choice. Here is the comparison video and all those examples are so much enough and at professional level too. Most pro choice is right there: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYuupGSLZqx0bpY Shirt mounted lapel mic(20-25cm beneath the mouth) is always the best bet. Chest prevents room echoes behind the artist. Lav miked spoken audio always beats the possible room reverb even in hard class rooms. Use of low quality headset mic has the risk of s-es to start to dominate and can make listening experience a pure torture. Dedicated mic is taking some work to set up. Using laptop mic always picks room echo and destroys part of the message. Winner for speech is always lavalier(lapel).
