At age 63 I took up running after they closed my gym (& all gyms) On my 3rd run I was able to reach 5 miles after being practically horizontal for 6 months and never having run since being a child. I found this astounding and put it all down body type AND to keto. The only downside of keto for me is the weight loss.

Lifetime runner here, 65. Spent the past 3 years in hell. Had Covid 6 times. Adverse reaction to the jab. In desperation, went carnivore. I realized REAL FOOD can not be substituted with bottled supplements and veges. To stop weight loss I eat 75% animal fat. My only " cheat" is an orange once a week. Nothing but meat, eggs and fat like butter, ghee, tallow, lard, bacon, pork belly, suet. I never expected anything but my strength to come back. What happened wS a miracle. A lifetime of terrible allergies disappeared. Ulceritis colitis and IBS gone. My anxiety is 80% improved. My GRINDING DEPRESSION is gone. My enlarged heart is normal. Random bruises no longer happen. Multiple tumors gone. No more problems sleeping. No cravings for carbs. No more excessively dry skin. I am far more patient with others. I dont run , just hike to keep potential inflammation down. I can easily hike over rough terrain 10 miles and Im not sore the next day. I am off ALL meds. The ONLY thing I take is a thyroid supplement, which the doctor had to reduce by 50%.

As usual, great video from you Paul . I’m a little confused about protein, when it comes to insulin. I have heard many times on other channels that too much protein spikes insulin. What is your take on this ?
@MediumRareOpinions3 жыл бұрын
I'm not Paul but if I were to offer my own humble input, protein in a whole foods diet would seldom be consumed "pure" It's my belief that if you select for sources with a balance of fat and protein the insulin spiking effect is mostly negligible.

Anything you eat eat will spike insulin. Carbohydrates spike the most, followed by protein and than fat. 6 hour food window 18 hour fast is the best approach

Glycogen supposedly is also important for hypertrophy or muscle recovery but if levels are the same in either diet then dietary carbs aren't necessary for this either.
@terraflow__bryanburdo45473 жыл бұрын
I don't train hypertrophy, but in my normal training, going from high carb to keto to carnivore, I have kept constant weight but added muscle and diminished fat somewhat. Meat is muscle-sparing for sure.
@AlexeyOsodoev3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but you should take into account that glycogen replenishment happens via gluconeogenesis on keto, so on workout days you need to up not fat as broscientists like ketogains would recommend, but protein, significantly higher than usually recommended to cover both glycogen replenishment and muscle tissue recovery.

A consideration about the backpack to equal weight before weight loss: It does not take into account that the weight from fat/tissue is far more distributed than a weight you carry on the back. So that may distort the results, due to different muscles are used to a varying degree than if you had the weight distributed.

I think Ken berry and Paul saladino have done this one. I understand it to be due to fructose metabolism I.e. eating more fructose based products will increase crystal deposition.

Dietary purine is unrelated to bodily purine, sugar/alcohol metabolism increases bodily purine. High body purine ~ Gout Dietary protein increases urea (not purine, not uric acid), helps prevent urinary tract infections (more common for women). You'd have to look through Mason's metabolic presentations to see these facts.

Serum magnesium tests are actually pretty reliable in my experience. You just need to be aware that values in the lower half of the reference range are a gray zone. So if you get values in the upper half in 2 separate tests 3 months apart of each other, you should be magnesium sufficient. That is because if you begin to deplete your magnesium, it takes a little longer to show on your blood work. Re-control if you changed something dramatically in your supplementation, like high dose Vitamin D or high dose B6

Olive oil has been part of Mediterranean diets for thousands of years , and it was never a problem, since it was used raw, or for cooking but slowly on a weak fire, so that it doesn't reach the smoking point. So I wouldn't blame olive oil for any health problems unless heated to death. By the way, fish oil supplements should not be an issue either, as the dose is so low, it doesn't really matter. 1 to 2g per day cannot hurt.

Depends very much on how insulin resistant you are. The middle ground might simply be a diet focused on real food avoiding the ultra possessed variety. It does not work with everybody. If you really need to lower your carbs, you don't need to go all the way down to Keto level. Many studies have shown that less than 150g of carbs a day is enough to lose weight for example. It seems that many diabetics can go on with 75g a day (25g per meal) without having glucose spikes, even without taking Metformin. So really, it does not have to be strict Keto with its 20g carbs per day limit
