Spot on review, except for maybe the "music fight." If it felt goofy, remember, Sam Raimi directed, and Danny Elfman (who hit the main stage of Coachella this year at 68 years old with tinnitus! Props) did the score. When I look at that fight from that perspective, that fight works for me A LOT. We're only going to have Danny around for so long, y'know, Raimi himself is 62, and giving the music itself (and Elfman) that moment - in time, I think that fight scene might hit different. Bottom line - the same guy that did the music for the fight wrote the theme song for The Simpsons, what did you expect the scene to be, Epic Rap Battles of the Multiverse? Also that last note being very reminiscent of the Seismic Charges from Attack of the Clones was a sweet touch.

Completely agree that they should’ve gone all in with the horror theme. There’s plenty of PG13 horror movies out there that go nuts in theatres. But…on the flip side I wouldn’t be surprised if the big mouse just won’t let them. Regardless, it was nice to see a relatively big break in the MCU formula.

I think that's because at first, this kind of films were ment to be seen by younger people, but lets get real with something: horror films had an uprising lately, not gore horror, but like suspence horror. And tbh, if ypu make a 100% horror mcu movie, it would be like shocking, so instead they're slowly introducing horror things among movies in the mcu. IF they keep introducing horror things, don't be surprice to finaly get a 100% horror movie, i mean, this is the first time we see a character in MCU die like that, or having little jump scare.

Personally, I was fine with the musical fight. Was it goofy compared to the overall tone? Absolutely. But it's comics, and moreover comics of a sorcerer. I was more amused by how the music reflected or was reflected by the back and forth in the score, and just enjoyed it for a bit of creative wizardry, because it was fun to see.

SPOILERS I think he meant goofy in execution. The idea is extremely creative and something we haven't really seen that much, but there are moments where Sinister Strange (evil one) just stands there, as if he was waiting to get hit. The idea is creative, but the execution of the scene and how it was filmed was goofy looking back, I think that's what he means. It's as if it was an RPG game where each character takes their time letting the other perform a spell without trying to defend themselves, then once they're done, the other takes their turn. You'll know what I mean if you've seen it.

As a comic book fan, I have to say that this is the first comic book movie ever to make me feel like I was watching a comic in movie form. From the how the film was colorful and just popped to the cinematography and choice of scene lay out. But most importantly it felt like a living and breathing comic, making references, random characters appearing and getting name dropped to the characterization of the characters. It all came together to give me a fantastic viewing experience.

While there aren’t a ton of ties to No Way Hone I think that movie was still crucial to setting up the theme of Doctor Strange’s character of this movie always thinking he knows best even when doing highly irresponsible things. That doesn’t work as well if we don’t have him royally screw things up in No Way Home.
@maxrichards3881
@maxrichards3881 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Now that I think about it, without Strange’s mildly antagonistic role in No Way Home, his arc wouldn’t mean much here. Strange went by “their sacrifice means infinitely more than their lives”, and he got stuck singling over the Grand Canyon for 12 hours. Here, he learns from his mistake, and tries to do better.

This is exactly why I've been dodging trailers since Endgame, because what else are they going to show if not the scenes that are going to generate the most hype? I personally enjoyed it too. America Chavez was a good addition to the MCU canon, and all the characters did a good job with what they were given. Oh, and for those of you who haven't seen the movie, *DO NOT CLICK READ MORE* Yeah, this movie is definitely not for the squeamish. Some jumpscares made me jump and quietly curse a few times. One monster was stabbed in the eye, which was ripped out in turn. That made me say "Fatality..." at my screen yesterday (Date of comment: 8th May 2022), and another later scene had "GET OVER HERE" playing in my head. Wanda freakin' Maximoff being the villain here was straight-up unexpected, and she's as much of a powerhouse as Knuckles in Sonic 2. My mother said "she's a beast!", with me saying "no longer a beauty" shortly afterwards. Just goes to show how hungry she was for Chavez' power. I heard the word "Baxter" being used in one of the alternate universes, and I was immediately intrigued because I recognised that name. You see why it helps to research the source material if one doesn't feel like reading the comics? And when Mr. Fantastic showed up, *I AUDIBLY GASPED IN EXCITEMENT!*

Wanda was scary AF and the make up of the other wanda fighting the iluminati drones, with her face appearing to be slashed but wasn't, and the poise and limp.. Damn!! I didn't like what they did with her in the end tho. Cumberbatch was great, as expected, the cameos were good if not just a tad cheesy. Cinematography was on point! Overall, I'd say a B+ rating.

i really enjoyed it to be perfectly honest, i loved the horror aspects of it too as im a big raimi fan. my one problem with it was the actor playing America, i cant tell whether or not it was the fault of the script and just not giving her anything more than "is scared"and "gets chased" or that shes just not a very good actor. i cant imagine it being easy trying to keep up with Benedict and Olson especially with how good they were in this, just making her stand out even more. i don't know if it was just me as the people i watched it with didn't really pay much attention to it but it was definitely bugging me throughout the film

My personal opinion, clarifying that it’s just my opinion, is that this movie was just overall disappointing. My reasoning below has spoilers. Yes, people’s performances were excellent. Action scenes were really cool. There was a good constant pace throughout the movie. I enjoyed watching it. However, I felt as though there were some large issues with this movie. I believe it relied too heavily on WandaVision, and lost many viewers because they didn’t explain or recap things very well at all. Me and so many others in my theatre were asking “Why can she do that? I thought her powers were basic force manipulation and mind illusions, but now she can change reality? Where did that book come from? Prophecy? What? What happened to her?” I also thought that the character arcs were… lacking. Dr. Strange learned to not say he is happy when he’s not? America learned to fully use her powers in an instant because of a two sentence conversation? It also felt as though there were plenty of plot conveniences. Now don’t get me wrong, a lot of the time, general storytelling has plot conveniences to progress the story (meaning plot conveniences can be natural in a story), but some of these felt too easily handed. Like, the dark book. We went through the trouble of an entire scene to show someone walking up, basically saying goodbye, launching herself to stab the book, sadly look onward and burn to ash… just to undo all of that in a near instant. “Oh, it just happens that book was a copy, and I know exactly where to go. And although I have sacrificed Dr. Strange, and suggested sacrificing America, and have been very “we must protect the multiverse at all costs” I’m going to give up this information because 4 people we haven’t even named in the movie were getting hurt.” Also, as it was mentioned, I felt that the entire illuminati part was worthless, and just trying to do fan service. Yes, I understand that this is the multiverse, so it was likely to meet cool characters and not stick around for long, and they may be seen again throughout the multiverse, but practically nothing productive narratively came from that entire segment. They came, got exposition dumped, watched people die, walked to the book and took their sweet time to walk up to it (so many people in my theatre were saying “Go! What are you doing? She was right behind you! Stop walking and start running? Come on!”), and failed, practically right back to square one. The whole bit felt like a waste of time. Also, the illuminati deaths felt done poorly. You mean that an alternate captain marvel would die by rockfall? And why didn’t Wanda use her powers on Strange and America the same way she used it on the whisper guy and the fantastic 4 guy? (I apologize for forgetting names). I just thought that narratively, this movie lacked a ton. I could be reasoned and proven wrong, but these were my thoughts coming out of the theatre.

I haven't seen it mentioned but it's my biggest gripe with the film. . . there's no real first act. Like we get a bit of intro to Chavez, we get Strange doing some human stuff, and then fight scene, villain reveal, fight scene. The pacing at the start of the film is really jarring as it feels as if we just get straight into the second act. And i get that a lot of the build up is from WandaVision, and the film would've been released earlier if not for Covid so it would've ran through nicely, but I just felt it needed a bit more padding to begin with, to warm us into the story. Because after the Karma-Taj scene, which is early in the film, the pacing drops off and all that adrenaline and excitement disappears. The cameos were cool but at that point I was just waiting for the story to pick up again. I don't know, maybe it needed a bit more of Chavez by herself early on or anything really. I don't want to get into spoiler territory, but there's a big moment in like the fourth scene which, if it was deeper in the film, would've felt more natural. It's weird because I don't know whether I liked it, despite loving so much of it. Elisabeth Olsen is incredible, the horror elements are a heaps of fun, the cameos are clever but don't overstay their welcome or take over the story, the fight scenes were creative, the emotions of the film were explored brilliantly. Yet I left the cinema feeling oddly disappointed despite having no real expectations. I don't know, maybe MCU is just getting old for me, I didn't really care for Moon Knight until the last two episodes. I just feel like the end product wasn't as good as the individual pieces

3:24 I remember a Screen Rant article that was basically saying "Quantumania is going to waste Kang the Conqueror, one of Marvel's greatest and most powerful villains" as if Kang was going to be a one-off villain and all I could think was "do you really think they're just going to have a villain like that show up for one movie then die at the end? Did that happen with Loki or Thanos? We're way past stand alone origin stories now...every one of these films is part of a bigger story that contributes to a larger narrative." At this point, I consider any cameos to be largely fan service, while always have the potential of hinting at things to come, so I enjoy them at face value when they happen.
@awesomusprime8611
@awesomusprime8611 2 жыл бұрын
My biggest problem is that Kang will be brought in via an Ant-Man movie. That just seems too small scale(no pun intended) for someone as important as Kang. Technically he’s being set up in the Loki series but that’s even worse because that’s a show and not a movie. I’d rather they give Kang the Thanos treatment and build him up overtime and then introduce him as the main antagonist of an Avengers film but that’s just me.

Loved the movie, but the advertising killed it. The first couple of trailers were fine and left it to theories mostly. The TV spots that came out a couple days before the movie released were terrible. SPOILERS ⬇️ The TV spots spoiled key plotpoints, like the illuminati, Captain Carter, and Prof. X was basically just obviously revealed. I'd give this a 7 out of 10. Its not bad but i think the pacing is kind of all over the place. Benedict does amazing and so Elizabeth, I love her chasing them in the tunnel. I hope there's some sort of "unrated Raimi" cut of this film for home release but i doubt disney would allow that.

I can’t back you up entirely. SPOILERS AHEAD! Turn back if you haven’t seen it yet! 1: I didn’t even notice the shoddy cgi moments you pointed out, because I was too invested to care. Btw, in No Way Home, that wasn’t deaging cgi at the end with sandman & lizard, it was modified archival footage. 2: The cameos are not the variants of the characters in our main world, so I didn’t have a problem with what happened to them. I’m so excited to see a John Krasinski mr fantastic in the MCU F4 in 2 years! 3: I think this film juggles the comedy and horror very well. I didn’t scream in any movie theater when I watched a horror film, up until Xavier’s death and the underground chase. The comedy wasn’t as great as some MCU films, but I never felt like it destroyed the horror vibe. 4: Edit, because my old reason didn’t make much sense, and I thought of a better one; “In the grand calculus of the multiverse, their sacrifice means infinitely more than their lives.” There’s a (doylist) reason the dead strange used that line; showing strange that he must find a better way. He used to lack the spine, as mordo said, but post-DS1, he lacks the creativity. I’ll agree with the ending, considering they wasted the book of vishanti. As a side note: Wanda was fucking terrifying here, and I’m glad they showed off her villainous side. The MCU really needed more morally grey characters, and Wanda was just the right one to start with. (She gives off serious Rhea vibes to me, but that’s my inner FE3H fan showing.) Overall, this movie wasn’t as great as NWH (which lets be honest, nothing even compared to that), but it’s better than both of the 2022 movies you’ve given a B-. I loved The Batman & Sonic 2, but this movie deserves more than what you gave it. In my eyes, it’s a solid A-.

SUPER BIG SPOILER LIKE FOR REAL Ok, so I wanted to talk about Black bolt and Mr. fantastic. Seeing them was so freaking cool. I’ve wanted black bolt especially to have an onscreen appearance for a long time. Also the surprise casting of John Krasinski when it was who the fans said would make a great Mr. fantastic was really cool to see. However, I know he already touched on how this scene would piss some people off and that marvels got a plan, but I can’t imagine scarlet taking them out so easily. Like killing them sure, but in the first 5 seconds of the fight? Ugh… left me wanting. I know that they weren’t our BB and reed richards, but it was still sad to see them go so fast. We need a Fantastic 4 movie and a black bolt movie super badly now set in our universe. I trust marvel. They’ve been killing it for the last decade and have only gotten better.

You said Benedict and I didn't know if you meant Cumberbatch or Wong. Spoilers ahead. I massively agree. The tone shifting was bringing it down. I've seen a surprising amount of people calling this the worst MCU movie which is definitely a bit much but I can see why they might feel that way. The hype surrounding it didn't help either. I was weirdly more hyped after seeing Captain Carter and Black Bolt than some of others. That just opened up the possibility for some other shows to be made truly canon to the MCU. Also that Captain Carter look was amazing. I really do wonder if John Krasinki is going to stay on as Reed or if they'lll have someone else in the 616 universe. I also feel like America didn't really have much to do after a certain point in the movie and her level of control for her powers was confusing. She clearly needed to be panicked for it to rip open the world behind her but sometimes that just didn't happen. Early on she broke some of a ledge using her power but she never (at least explicitly) tries to use it again iirc. Am I correct in assuming they are implying that the Scarlet Witch is a once in a multiverse type of thing? Also, getting rid of the Darkhold after 1 movie kinda sucks. I know it was in Agents of Shield and part of WandaVision but it's not really had any opportunity to do anything. I personally would prefer if they kept more of the cool artifacts and villains around instead of killing them off. Doctor Strange should've at least heard of the Illuminati. Even if it's not the same one they had. It kinda says to me that they don't even have the conspiracy version in their world which was honestly one of the most shocking things to me. Wanda should've easily destroyed the Illuminati but they had her hold back after Black Bolt and Mr Fantastic for some reason.

@@LuisPerez-5 616 is a big ass nod to comic book fans since this number represents the main universe, and most of the issues are being published as they would have happened in this timeline. ofc there are others, with 19999 (I may have forgotten one 9), also called MCU, being the prime example. Although, it seems to work on different conditions compared to the other timelines, since in somehow contains its own Multiverse, somehow detached from the original multiverse.

They really don't explain her power or how it works at all honestly. But it doesn't detract. And from what Kevin Feige has said and the implications of Loki, they only really prune timelines/variances that cause Kang to come to power, or that intersect. But based on what he said at the premier, the events of Loki are why Strange's spell went wrong in NWH and allowed the events in this movie.
@Cinemabu11
@Cinemabu11 2 жыл бұрын
There might be SPOILERS The Multiverse has always been a thing. The TVA just made sure each one was set on a certain path. There are different versions of Loki with different histories, meaning they're from different universes in the Multiverse, not just alternate timeline. Many of those Loki's had different Nexus events, like Alligator Loki eating the wrong neighbor's cat. If Alligator Loki was from our Loki's universe, him being an alligator would've probably been a Nexus event itself, lol 😂 My point being, she could've still traveled, since the Multiverse existed, as multiple threads in a string. The best allegory is this. The Multiverse is a forest, and each universe/main timeline is a tree. Anything that changes causes an alternate timeline/universe to form, a branch in the tree. Chavez can travel between different universes/trees. The TVA makes sure there are no branches. Sylvie killing He Who Remains made multiple branches occur unchecked, which led to them colliding, which is something that's mentioned in this movie. In short, what Loki and Sylvie did had no effect on her abilities.

Listen...I was just here Miss Wanda Maximoff 'cause she ate it up in this movie. I loved the direction they took with her character and how it didn't waste time with the plot. After this movie, I would love to see another Wanda series because she truly is that great of a character, and they could draw on the James Robinson run. I also adored the elements of horror that were prevalent to the film. That scene with the mirrors and that part with Patrick Stewart in the mindspace was visually gorgeous and tonally disturbing in a great way.

SPOILERS: I’d give the movie an 8/10. The concept of the multiverse is well explored and expanded a bit. I have a feeling that the multiverse will continue to expand with new movies. Maybe even an infinity war/endgame esque movie with a multiverse war or something. But the film itself was just missing something I can’t put my finger on. Not as impactful, but I’d say it’s more of a filler type movie that expands on some aspects of the multiverse, a different version of the avengers and the new character who can teleport to different multiverse’s at her own will.
@MrKlausbaudelaire
@MrKlausbaudelaire 2 жыл бұрын
I believe marvel confirmed their next "Thanos" will be Kang, the Conqueror, sorta introduced in Loki's finale. Plus that serie was kinda what kickstarted the Multiverse. Before Loki, there was just one universe with an entire organization that pruned any alternative branching, and the end of Loki, without getting into spoilers, let loose the multiverse.

I feel like if they had kept up the creepy and gave a truly horrific zombie Strange the whole movie would feel more cohesive

It wasn’t bad by any means but also wasn’t exceptionally good. America Chavez to me had no highlights. She reminded me of a bad reboot spy kids character, I guess that’s more attributed to the script rather than her portrayal. The pizza bowl scene and the memory bank scene just made me laugh out loud at how corny and bad it was. The green screen also irritated me really bad. The eye monster sequence was the main annoyance with the CGI and green screen. Wanda was amazing per usual. I’m glad they finally expanded upon her abilities and character traits so we can see just how powerful she can be. For me it’s a 75/100. Can’t wait for love & thunder.

Don't be mistaken, bad CG doesn't come from bad CG artists. You say the shot looks almost as if it isn't done but you have to realize that is almost certainly exactly what happened. The artists get rushed because of terrible post-production timing in order to keep the secrets in as long as possible or from pure mismanagement by the main studio. This isn't the fault of the artists it's a management problem.

I couldn't track the story through the trailer and it made for an exciting watch. Anyways, I freakin loved it. Wanda is incredible in this, I loved how horrory they let them be, its genuinely terrifying and brutal at times. I thought the cameos were handled exactly how they should have been and anyone mad needs to realize the way the did it leaves it open for much much more in the future. Sam Raimis direction is throughout and the music fits so perfectly.
