A myofascial trigger point is a hyper-irritable spot, usually within a taut band of a muscle. Trigger points are painful when you push on them and tend to refer pain to another location. They can, also, alter the motor function of a muscle and wreak havoc on biomechanics. Tim Sawyer, Physical Therapist, takes you on a guided tour of your shoulder, it's possible trigger points and how to approach them with a lacrosse ball, tennis ball or massage ball.
In our office, we use manual therapy, extracorporeal shockwave therapy, class IV laser therapy, spray and stretch and deep relaxation techniques to address the trigger points.

Biomechanics including exercise modification, ergonomics, sleep positioning, automobile seat positioning can be necessary when approaching myofascial pain syndrome. There are times when this video and the others will be enough but when the trigger points have been there for a long time, is when multiple modalities must be employed.
The best of those modalities is ESWT (extracorporeal shockwave therapy). ESWT has been proven to help myofascial trigger points, scar tissue, tissue regeneration and more..
