IN THAT 90s time, many mothers gave birth to a child in our cars. Thats a comfort of the AMBASSADOR. AND i have learnt driving at the age of 13 , when i was in 8th std. And motorcycles same time. And my bikes are RAJDOOTS. My FATHER is mechanic as well as auto consultant. At that time.

We also had Fiat 1100 and we managed to get some modifications done in electricals by replacing starter motor & charging motor with Ignition & alternators from Omni. Second, big booster was the replacement of old carburettor with 1995 model carburettor. And these small but potent changes made hell of a difference

Generally I don't watch the drag race videos but today I watched it for these two beauties. We used to own an Ambassador and I love it today as well. A car with no gimmicks, had the basics right. A car with no advanced safety features but had saved many with it's awesome build quality.

Have been lucky enough to have travelled in both the models multiple times as a kid.... Remembering those days when that lever shifter in the Fiat felt like magic and the Couch seats in the Ambassador felt like a bed 😅

We had an '87 Amby.. Padminis and Ambassadors ruled the roads back then.. had to top up the radiator frequently on long drives.. miss those days!!

My father owned an Ambassador and three Premier Padmini cars, one after the other over a period of 15 years till 1990. Premier Padmini was awesome to drive and I learnt driving on that car. Had a dejavu feeling watching the race 👌👌

Nostalgic. You know, Ambassadors and Fiats were used for racing before maruti came. I remember watching the races in DD on Sundays. Madras Cholavaram airfield was used as racing circuit in those days. And rarely we get to see a random fiat or Amby with racing numbers stuck on it on city roads, we would shout "Race car... Race car" with so much joy. Truly 'Ignorance is Bliss'😁

The Premier padmini used to have 50hp and 71nm torque in stock condition I think and if it was tuned for performance then it would make 70hp atleast with all the mods you talked about . It would have won by a narrow margin maybe. But if this was about setting quickest lap times then Ambassador would not stand a chance for sure because the padmini/1100 was a brilliant handler in corners 😀 compared to Ambassadors. My father had one and we took the car to Goa by old Mumbai Goa highway in the 90s and it performed brilliantly 👏. We would love to see who sets the quicker lap time on track. Please make it happen @Autocar India 🙏❤🔥.

This was awesome! Neither these cars would have done a drag, nor I would have ever thought these cars can be put to a drag race. Amazing to watch these cars again in such a sophistication! Would be even more appreciated if we get a detailed review of these old cars for the 80's and 90's born car enthusiasts like me. They have got their own charm, the steering, cabin, bench like seats, unique gear lever, luggage space.

WE HAVE OWNED 4 AMBASSADOR CARS FROM 1989-2010. ONE IS MK4 83 MODEL ENGINE SWAPPED TO MATADOR 301 AND THEN TO AUTOLAND 4000 DSLS. AND MARK1 1962 SWAPPED TO MATADOR 301. AND A 1964 MODEL FITTED WITH AUTOLAND. AND LASTLY, A 1996 MODEL NOVA WITH HM PLUS COMPANY ENGINE. I HAVE DRIVEN MARK4 IN 2008-2010 WHICH WAS SERVED IN RURAL AREAS. FOR VETERINARY ROUTE WITH 1996 NOVA ALSO. THEY ARE LIKE A JEEP-WHEREVER GO ATTITUDE. AND I LEARNT DRIVING ESPECIALLY IN THE NIGHT WHEN WE RETURNING FROM TEMPLES. IN NORTH-KARNATAKA. IN HILLY AREAS. WE RENT OUR CARS FIRSTLY. WITH 5 JOINT FAMILIES. AMBASSADOR IS A VERY EASY TO DRIVE CAR. WITH STANLEY SEALED BEAMS, POWERFUL LIGHTING AROUND THE ROAD. AND THE BMC-DERIVED ENGINES ARE VERY RELIABLE, DURABLE AND POWERFUL. AND THE MATADOR ALSO. AND THE PARTS ARE VERY CHEAP. AND CAN BE REPAIRABLE ANYWHERE. I AM MEMBER OF ALL AMBASSADOR GROUPS. We had an Amby Mark from the late 60s to the early 2000s... It had quite a history I must say. It had a stately black color with whitewall tyres.. In it's later days it was converted to LPG for mileage reasons..but kept breaking down since then. I fondly recall the long trips we had to our estates, especially in the rains. I used to sleep criss cross on the front bench seats while my granpa drove. I had high plans of acquiring it once I turned legal age but he sold it off. In its lifetime it witnessed 2 thefts, all my uncle's marriages and my parent's, an accident where it involved total brake failure in our fontyard and crashing right into the garage shutter, nearly brushing me, 1 or 2 bumps with stray dogs, and some body art on the back right quarter panel by me with a rock.
