I have heard that because the transmission in the golf is a double clutch, it basically holds the first year ready while in launch control. Then, when the brake pedal is released, it takes a little time to smash the first gear in and launch. Not sure tho 🙃

However, when you launch these new conventional automatic transmissions.. the torque converter kicks in faster than the dsg. The supra isnt dsg. The dsg has a slight little delay. Even matt from carwow and some other reviewers admit spoke of this.

That Golf R did have a tune. It has aftermarket exhaust (the sound plus not OEM pipes/tips), and you can hear the DSG farts on the shift when he used launch control. You don't get the DSG "fart" when using launch control on the factory ECU tune. I have the Golf R, this is obviously not stock to anyone that knows the car. It's still a fun race and good to know that it can run with a new Supra without much work. This likely was just a basic Stage 1 or Stage 2 tune with exhaust.

If Carwow did the test we probably would have seen a better result as they do both the standing 1/4 Mile and the rolling start. RWD cars don't perform well straight from the dig and even if you had a good driver there is tiny room for error. If these went on for half a mile the results would be the same regardless of driver skills, supra will always and I'll repeat ALWAYS trash the Golf R. Had the supra opted for a 4wd option it would have pulled at least 2 car lengths on the Golf R in both runs

Yeah but with the old supra would beat “hothatches” back in the day. The new one is about as powerfull as the old one. But 300+ hp back then was quite a lot for a car like that, but not so much today as multiple hothatches have even crossed the 300hp mark. The only reason why the Supra lost is because of traction or lack of grip during launch , you can clearly see the car skidding & how slippery that surface is for a rear will drive. So relax people the Supra is still faster than the Golf R like it's meant to be and that does not mean the Golf R is slow it's still a fast car with all wheels pulling and has no time to wait for that Supra to compose itself in that surface from launch to finish, maybe the Supra driver should not use launch control next time but just adjust the throttle and let it's torque take over.

I sat in one yesterday. DIdn't like the 6 fake holes in the seat headrests (in addition to the 10 fake exterior vents). Outward visibility is terrible, the windshield's vertical height is so short between the dash cluster and ceiling, also short is the vertical height between the top of the infotainment screen and bottom of the rearview mirror.

You forgot to jerk the wheel around for no reason on the launch. The VW should have the 0-60 ft then the supra should have the rest of the race given the supra has more than 100 more whp and wtq and weighs basically the same. In fact a race on a regular road would give the VW more of an advantage due to less available overall grip or... yall have a tune on the golf. without giving us 1/4 mile times it's hard to actually give any credit to your review

civil muzangwa They wanted to, but it would have been able to maintain its price increase with R&D. So look at price of newest GTR and NSX. 125k pus would have been the price. Toyota analyzed the competition sales and realized GTR and NSX were piss poor sales. Plus with the C8 mid engine Corvette coming out, the real Supra was scrapped. Would have never sold enough to pay for the 800 million R&D. Toyota stopped sales in the past on the Supra due to poor sales. Everyone back in the day were buying v8 corvettes instead. Toyota didn’t want a repeat of that and The competition is even fiercer this time. So the idea was scrapped. BMW struck a deal to help split costs and build the Supra. At the end of the day, Toyota only cares about making a profit. With this new Supra, they will sell more, and most important, they are gaining a whole new buyers market of people who only buy German sports cars. It’s a win win for Toyota. Toyota was known for building good quality cars for the average person who doesn’t want to look fancy or rich. Just a plain looking ride with great reliability. Genuine Toyota buyers don’t spend a lot of money and are very conservative people. They needed to think outside the box and look at the people who actually have money and love to mod their cars. German car guys! Toyota lost a ton of money on the Lexus LFA. They thought they were gonna sells lots of them. It is a great overall car and one of the best sounding cars. But nobody cared. They didn’t have the name like Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Correcting the torque-steer in a better way won't have a dramatic improvement to drag times. In drag races, engine power and starting launch is everything. Swerving side to side a little bit won't make you lose if you were winning.

Golf R might have a better launch on unproper conditions or unskilled driver to launch a RWD car. Check Carwow Supra vs Z4. With proper road conditions and launch, it got 12.0s 1/4 mile. And rolling race definetely would be more quicker. That first part of the drag race road seems way to slippery, looks like almost wet. You see real traction issues on another videos like Supra vs. M2 Competition.

@@valentintudor9272 A drag strip has far better traction for a RWD car than on normal roads. The shiny surface you see is a layer of sticky resin (TrackBite) sprayed onto the track to increase traction so if anything the Supra is being given extra help to win. When it comes to real roads the Supra isn't going to get as much traction as it did in this video. An AWD Golf R is going to have even more launch advantage from the AWD. The Supra's huge horsepower advantage will make it faster when it is already going at high speeds. If you buy a car for real world conditions though the Golf R would be more consistent at winning the traffic light grand prix. You can't use the superior horsepower unless you're on the race track or autobahn and the superior torque is being hampered by a lack of traction.

Is it a 1/4 mile or a 1/8 of a mile? Where are the times? Is the pavement went? And lastly is it stock golf R? Because if it is I’m calling BS. A stock golf R should be slower to 60miles (100km) and it should be doing the 1/4 mile on the low 13s trap speeds of about 104mph. Clearly slower in every way than the Supra.
