Nice! I haven't heard this banter before. This certainly supports the theory that Solas isn't as terrible as everyone says.

Spoilers** He is the dread wolf. This must refer to locking up the old gods.

Chris Morgan jk. But this may tie with "trapped in the mirror" and "the only way to save them"

Most folk overly focus on the results of his plan and the fact that he's usually arrogant. He doesn't WANT to kill everyone and makes this very clear especially if you get on his good side. He does however see the mass destruction as necessary to undo his mistake and save his people. It's like if we found ourselves living in a post-apocalyptic dark age with a bunch of mutants (who enslaved humans) and had a choice between accepting this as the new norm or causing mass destruction in order to bring back our modern way of life. Also I don't believe his plan involves a big red button "kill everyone who isn't an elf." I believe his plan is more of, "I will fundamentally change the nature of the world in a violent and destructive manner that inevitably will kill a lot of people but won't just automatically wipe everyone out."

@@MrRawrCEO This seems quite in line with how Sandal worded this particular bit of his prophecy. "Everyone will be just like they were". Not exclusive to the elves but everyone will be subjected to the Fade like the mages are now and the elves of Arlathan were.

I have a theory that humans actually originated from spirits that remained in the physical world when Solas created the Veil. We see Cole become human in Inquisition, so maybe that's what happened to the first humans as well. It would also explain why the elves think the arrival of the humans caused them to lose immortality, since it would happen immediately after the Veil was created.

Cole telling him it was the right thing to do isn't necessarily the truth...Cole tells you what you need to hear to heal your pain.

But he never said it didn't come with a price, he just said his decision wasn't wrong because the Evanuris had to be stopped and that was the only way. It was a mistake, but not an intentional one. I suppose it's a matter of perspective though.

Cole isn’t a bad person though and speaks out when something is bad. I think he meant it.

Well the alternative was god-mages scarier than Corypheus dominating the entire world. There might have been a better way but we can't fault a fellow who just lost their biggest ally (Myrthal) and had their back against the wall.

Suppose he saved all the elves he freed by locking them all up in an Evanuris, before he created the veil? And seeing as how the Fade is a place of the mind, suppose all he managed to do was separate part of their spirits from their bodies, thus rendering the elves part mortal... maybe some less than others. I still wonder if Sera is one of those elves. Exactly when do elven children receive those tattoos/slave brands?

Dalish get Vallaslin when they come of age, about 16 or so. But the Evanuris are the Creators and the ancient elves. You might be thinking of an Eluvian? Solas trapped the Evanuris in the Fade when he created the Veil. Cole’s comments later about them being locked in mirrors might hint to them being trapped in the Fade and unable to escape. The ancient elves used Eluvian to travel to and from the fade, so they might be stuck there now. The elves became mortal because they lost their deeper connection to the Fade through the Veil (or something, it isn’t clear. Their power made them essentially immortal, but the Veil cut them off from that power). That’s why he wants to tear down the Veil, so he can free the Evanuris). The Fade and Thedas used to be one and the same (or at least the barriers weren’t so thin), so it wasn’t originally a place of the mind, so to speak, but somewhere you could physically go, probably via Eluvian. Some of Arlathan used to be in the Fade, and there's a theory that it used to be the Golden/Black City. There is a theory that Sera is actually Serabaas or something, but tbh I’m not sure how much I believe it. But dragon age lore is so convoluted, I don’t know what’s going on half the time 😂

Note on the vallaslin: I found a bit of lore in Origins (in the Dalish camp) saying that elves can receive them at any age, and that if a person cries out while they're being tattooed they're not ready yet and have to prepare more. Apparently the fact that the ancient elves lived for incredibly long periods of time means there's no shame in not receiving the vallaslin until what would now be adulthood or even old age. As for everything else, no idea but enjoying picking up bits of lore here and there!

The fade was a part of thedas before solas created the veil, it wasn’t like it is now where you can only access it via dreams or in the inquisitors instance through a fade rift. It was just there, spirits roamed freely and because they didn’t have to come through to the world past the veil or against their will I’m guessing there was none or very little demons, they were people basically. And solas trapped the evanuris in the fade using the veil, he probably waited until they were all gathered in a part of the fade and then trapped them, but in doing so that severed the elves connection to the fade and things like arlathan and many other cities were lost because they relied on the fade and a heavy amount of magic to stay built, that’s why in tresspasser the forgotten library is only half there and is pretty much destroyed. He didn’t trap any elves other than the evanuris but unfortunately he couldn’t save every elf in the aftermath of the veil, many became trapped in places like the library and either fell to their death or died similarly

@@aislinlindsay3950 Some of the codex entries made me think that shapeshifting into the form of a dragon was forbidden by the Evanuris to everyone except them. My theory is that Solas somehow trapped them in dragon form, and they became the Old Gods. (Maybe the Veil kept them from being able to change back.) They were trapped in the Deep Roads, becoming archdemons when the darkspawn find and corrupt them. This would make sense as to why Solas freaks out about the Grey Wardens' plan to raise a demon army and kill all the remaining Old Gods. I don't think he cares about blood magic or demons. I think he didn't want to see the remaining Evanuris killed. He opposed them, but I get the sense he doesn't necessarily want them destroyed, if only to preserve unique & powerful beings.

Except to the ancient elves, the vallaslin was a brand worn by enslaved elves. There were no mystic rites, it was a sign that you were owned. Solas tells you about their truth if you romance him.
