Usage of modern era term in medieval settings are really weird in here, really off-puting

@ Dragon Age is a dark fantasy RPG. I don't mind changing the gameplay to be more action-oriented; sometimes, it's good to try different mechanics. I don't mind the change on the colour palette: the graphics are breathtaking and help the immersion. My biggest concern is the quality of the writing. Most of the dialogues use modern language that breaks the immersion, and to me, it seems they were written for kids and not for a mature audience. Even though the characters are adults, most of them behave like teenagers. Answering your question: I expected better storytelling.

Same, I put up with less. When it comes to games, I'm more lenient, if I don't like it, I just drop it 👌🏻

Dragon Age has always used modern language, for the most part. People say things like "okay" all the time.

If you ask her to follow the qun, does she drop the "they" thing ? It'd be an interesting take, ngl

I will be testing that in a my second playthrough (altho not for that particular reason lol)!

Rook is a Therapist, every conversation with companions is the same: Therapy. Thats why its so shallow. Its too much. If this was the only scene it wouldn't be so bad, but its one of 100. Also the dialog is too modern. In DAO they had a ban on modern dialog and only Alistar was given a pass on it. It helps with immersion. Tash and the others (Davrin comes to mind) are too modern, feels inserted. And this is problem with many characters in the game. It focuses on real world problem instead on "Dragon Age world" problems.

Rook in DAV is not only the penultimate hero, but he cares about the members of his team. He needed them without distraction to defeat 2 (technically 3) elven gods. Problems don't always have to be physical, but can be emotional or mental. I'm glad I got to help them all. The game gives you the option of not helping and you get to see what happens when they're distracted.

Replaying Origins recently, and I forget how judgemental and misogynistic the Qun are with their gender roles. I just had Sten judge Morrigan for being a mage and a woman. So far, the Qun suuuuuuuck but i'll see the more I play. This they/them thing jarred bc me I remember Ferelden having open gender roles, women soldiers, even being open to trans people in the red light districts. Same sex relationships were also okay, but other circumstances such as arranged marriages with Dorian, the Circle forbidding mages to love with Anders and Karl.. those threaten same sex love in game, not same sex itself being seen as threats. Maybe it's just the Qun's misogynistic standards Taash was just fighting, but this can handled and written better.. this is too rushed.

Qun totally strips you of everything personality related. If you cant fulfil their predefined role as a worker bee (or lose your sword) they simply kill you. There is nothing misogynistic about it. Actually the Qun in a way is the absolute opposite of discrimination. The highest cleric is of same value as the lowest street cleaner.

This seems to be their A game when it comes to trans Even in inquisition when they had the Stella writing of Dorian balancing perfectly social issues within the lore & even expanding the world building all at the same time But for trans? A lazy retcon of the Qunari that are rigid in job roles with no freedom for self expression are apparently flexible with gender identity..... What makes it even weirder is a fantasy setting with spirits like Cole would be perfect to base a culture intouch with spirits & see the physical & spirit as very separate & be very pro trans But making the 'no women soldiers' Qunari pro trans makes no sense Hell the fade is even more perfect as you could have an amazing scene where the character model changes as in the fade you see them as they see themselves not how they were born
@erraticonteuseАй бұрын
@@kaidrazarc8000 There are no women soldiers under the Qun, just cis and trans men. The Qunari would rather keep their societal roles gendered while letting individuals transition to fit those roles. It's not that hard to understand.
@kaidrazarc8000Ай бұрын
@@erraticonteuse yeah I get it & that's the lore they are going with You have to admit it's abit inconsistent a society that enforces rigid gender roles & career paths are assigned based on aptitude ignoring any personal desire of the individual But.... they respect individual choice when it comes to gender identity & nothing else
@erraticonteuseАй бұрын
@@kaidrazarc8000 I think you're giving them a little too much credit about how much they respect individual gender identity. They do when it does mesh with their aptitude in a gendered field. I doubt that every truly trans Qunari gets to transition.
