Agreed. Coffee wasn't even introduced to Europe until the end of the middle-ages and even then it was rare until the start of the industrial revolution. You have an entirely different race which could have its own customs, religion, family structure, codes, laws, language, etc. and the best thing you can think of is to make them some non-binary thing? I'm trying to imagine someone in the 14th-century Europe having a non-binary conversation with their parents and how well that will go? Likewise, you are on some adventure to save the world and you have time to care about that nonsense?
@Vilfy

@@BW022dunno how even they would come up with the term nonbinary, since they are still centuries away from the computer age. Where binary was actually conned up. Using the whole woke californian dialog in a medieval fantasy world is such great world building.

@@VilfyGood point. While the word "binary" was in use in English from the middle ages and came from the Latin "binarius" and "bini" -- meainig "duality" or "pair" -- the non-binary term didn't exist as "binary" then was used for this like stars or number pairs.

@@BW022 Exactly. I'm not a writer, I can't claim to do a better job than the people who work in the industry, but I just think it would be so easy to rewrite it as like "Mother, I have I have found within myself that the notions of of being either male or female do not represent who I am, thus I would appreciate it if you could refer to me as "they" like, it's not good, but you CAN make it sound like it belongs in a fantasy world, but it's like they didn't even try??

Even though their animations are less refined in BG3 (for good reason), you could still tell their character from their words and their voice. That’s exactly what it is. In other C-RPGs, companion quests exist and you’re free to get invested in them or not, and once in a while they tie into the main quest. But here ? The game straight up tells us to solve their problems or they’ll be too distracted to save the world. This… just isn’t how it works. The only characters it could have worked for are Lucanis because of the whole Abomination thing and Emmrich because his whole thing is that he’s terrified of dying so of course he couldn’t perform well under that constant threat.

I don't even mind that they wanted to write a companion who was quirky, a little childlike, and rather inexperienced. The problem is that seems to be almost all of them, and your character is the parent figure teaching them how to interact with other people. And most of them are experienced enough that they shouldn't be written like this! It makes it feel like so many of these conversations aren't actually coming from the characters, but coming from a cast of teenagers that are playing them in a game of D&D. That's it. I just remembered where Taash's uncomfortable growl thing comes from. It's every elementary/middle school girl in their werewolf/vampire obsession mimicking a growl. This reasoning follows in every interaction. With Taash taking on the 'predator role' a fantasizing~ teen might have. Then there's Taash's actual voice direction. I have a sister who took on being trans for a year or two. During this period, she would intentionally lower and restrain her voice in a similar way to what we hear from Taash. It was uncomfortable to hear as it was just too forced.

@@NVNNN Is not that easy; to meet that badger you need to make sure Jaheira survives and joins your party, then find her house in the lower city, find and unlock the hidden basement, bypass all the traps then finally meet with the informant animals. From what I recall, there is no specific marker for her house, you need to find and talk with the girl practicing with the sword while having Jaheira in on your party. So that one fairly obscure and could be missed easily. Skittle is reasonably easier to meet... but you don't have any particular reason to talk to him, and getting the speak with animals ritual is relatively costly for some classes. So missing him should be a fairly common occurrence.
