Broly, no contest. It canonized a popular character & gave him a personality, expanded the lore of the Saiyans, and it was just more exciting to watch. Super Hero, it seems like they want to do this weird pseudo-cel shading video game-esque animation style, the Gammas were extremely forgettable villains, Piccolo got a new form which will be nerfed almost immediately because that’s what Dragon Ball does whenever a character unlocks a new transformation and Cell Max was just a giant mindless monster that’s defeated 5 minutes after he’s awakened.

You are speculating. You hate the movie because of the what you speculate they would do later. After over 35 years of the franchise and a vibrant characters that Tori have created , it is a blessing that Goku and Vegeta is sidelined for others to shine. Also DBSSH animation is far far better than Broly and I am 29 who grew up with 2D animation. CG in SH felt so immersive that I felt like I was in the world.

Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 really made the movie for me. I really loved those new characters and what they did with them and how they were new challenges that Piccolo and Gohan had to struggle with and overcome. I liked Super Hero better because of this. My favorite thing about Broly was the prologue and how they added that bit of lore and it showed how Frieza came to rule over Planet Vegeta.

I like Super Broly for the spectacle, the animation, the battles and themes. However I like Super Hero for actually advancing the characters and their stories which has a bigger ramification for the future of the series, Pan is able to develop as a Character now, Goten and Trunks finally grew up, and maybe finally Gohan can find balance in his work and warrior life style, Piccolo got a much needed upgrade.

The main thing that bothered me about super hero was the lack of tension throughout the entire film. now every dragon ball movie that comes after broly will be compared to broly, and most likely won't be as good.

Both are really solid movies, one of the best stuff to come out of Super. But I have to lean more towards Broly. The visuals and animation was just amazing. That's not to say Hero's was terrible, the CG was pretty good, but I prefer the 2D Animation. And Broly's music is more memorable.

Super Hero introduces Beast Gohan. Beast Gohan is by far the worst transformation in dragon ball history. It reverts character development, it has no build up, it’s not earned, and its just a cheap call back. Cell Max is also just a cheap call back, everything that made Cell special is gone in cell max. The 3rd act of super hero goes down the drain pretty hard. If only Toriyama had stuck to his Plan and kept Piccolo as the main character and the gammas as the main villain it could’ve been the BEST Dragon Ball movie. Brolys only issue is maybe too much fighting, and depending on personal preference that could be better. DBS Broly is a lot better than Super Hero.

I don't care if i get hate for this: I prefer superhero. Despite the fact that cell max was a letdown, what happened in that movie feels more significant and memorable to me that what happened in the broly movie. Amazing animation and fights? Yes... The broly movie has both, yet i barely remember anything about it. I saw both the same day this year at home for the first time so... No recency bias here. Quite frankly I strongly believe that if both movies were animated the same many more people would like superhero more.

He worked well for the movie and he served his purpose. Villains don't always have to be deep. Super had more character development and comedy. And all the characters are in a better position in the end of superhero so I do prefer superhero over broly.

Personally i enjoyed superhero far more than the broly movie. Following other characters besides goku and vegeta alone is one of the reasons i like it more. I also preffered the combat in superhero far more than the broly movie. Half the time i could not even tell what was going on in the broly movie too many affects and the animation while smooth in movement just was not that clear and goku and vegeta looked kind of weird. I much preffered the combat in superhero it had less effects it was much easier to see what was going on and i preffered the choreography much more. However, i would say the writing and story was better in broly but i much preffered superhero over broly. I also preffered the music in superhero over the music in broly. I watch superhero 6 times for a week long rental while for the same week long rental of broly i only watched it twice. However, i will say this is my own personal opinion not trying to cause a war in the comments.

You guys summerized most of my thoughts quite well, there's nothing more that I can say, Broly edges it out for me for all those reasons but my biggest nitpick is Toriyama's version of Bardock which I don't like as much as the version written in the special. Bardock has a better backstory and motivation there. I like what they did with him in Farther of Goku, with the psychic ability, getting banged up, then gets his zen kai boost, tries to warn his people and then sees a series of flash backs that builds up to Goku becoming a different kind of warrior and in the end being the one to defeat Freiza. You already went over most of this in your other video, but it something I was immediately aware of during my first watch through because minus doesn't do it for me. Aside from that, the Super Hero movie proved that characters like Piccolo and Gohan could carry a story without Goku and Vegeta, and the 3D CGI wasn't too bad either. Where my main criticism goes to is the fact that the villain was a mindless monster. I think there was so much more they could've done with bringing Cell back but I'm not here to throw out ideas, I have done that in previous comment and come to think of I have cooler stuff I can think of now. But overall its a good watch but definitely not as amazing as Super Broly. Speaking of JuJustsu Kaisen, season 2 is finally here and I've been waiting for that.

I’d actually argue that by the time Super Hero rolls around, Piccolo’s base form is comparable to SSJ3 Goku. When Goku and 17 spar in the manga, 17 is able to hold his own against SSJ3 Goku. In the Moro arc, Piccolo did a better job at fighting a powered up Saganbo than 17 did.

I love Broly as much as the next guy, but it gets a little too much praise for certain things(it deserves praise, but its flaws are mostly overlooked) . The animation of Broly is immaculate, but it has a lot of that jarring, ugly CGI mixed in(not Resurrection F levels, but still noticeable), while the CGI in Super Hero actually looks great. The music in Broly is more memorable(mostly because the terrible chant songs, and the bop that is Blizzard(but I don't really count end credits music because it doesn't play during the movie)). I personally think Super Hero is a better movie, because Broly is more like 2 movies in one, which means neither get to be fully fleshed out. By time the movie actually started I just wanted more Bardock(his final stand was glossed over). By the actually end of the movie I wanted more of an Epilogue with Broly.

anyway my less-biased reasonings Visuals: Broly, I will give it that Music: Super Hero, just because of the subversion of not putting in a big rock melody for Gohan Beast, and I still don't really love Sumitomo's orchestration style, even when I like his tracks. Villains: Super Hero, because I think Broly's character arc falls completely flat. It's all about them arguing over his agency but he barely says anything the entire movie. He just sits there and lets other character decide everything for him. I don't have any deep connection to Cell, so I don't care if they bring him back 'wrong'. The original still existed. Final Battle: I hate Gogeta, so yeah Super Hero. Story: Broly is a complete exposition mess, there's so many lines that are just there explaining everything. Super Hero has the issue that if you're a newcomer it makes it a lot harder to understand, but it's also less boring to watch. Transformations: why are you asking about forms, why is that a criteria that is so specific

My biggest gripe with Super Hero is that they went out of their way to make it look like Gohan got weak again by having him not sense Piccolo in the Red Ribbon outfit when even Pan did. Only then to later in the movie give him a massive power boost with a new form... like why??? Of course that's gonna make people mad it's not satisfying... even though massive power boosts from rage have been part of Gohan's character from the beginning since Radditz. I'm so tired of Gohan being weak then strong again weak then strong again... at this point if they want Gohan to actually keep up with Goku and Vegeta in the future they HAVE to at least show him training a LITTLE on screen for Beast to make more sense and be satisfying. Like instead of Gohan telling Piccolo that he was secretly practicing the Special Beam Cannon at the end of the movie, we should have actually gotten to SEE Gohan practicing it in like a flashback scene or something.

The Gohan situation is rather complex to me. On one hand he does have difficulty with his forms but doesn’t suffer burnout like in the RoF series adaptation. But saying he was unprepared when he actually learned the makakensoppo in secret is a lie (when was the last time post-Cell Gohan added a technique to his abilities). I also thought listening to Piccolo to destroy Cell Max despite being in a power rage (and ignore him) showed he still kept to his objectivity taught him in the Anime ToP. So,. I can’t be absolute about this one.

So I really like both movies, however if I'm being honest with myself, Broly is better in my opinion. The story is just beautifully written. Music is good and animation is even better. Super Hero is great though; I find the music in super hero to be better but I find most of my love for that movies comes out in the final parts leading up to Gohan transforming and finish Cell max.

Broly was excellent, especially in its flashback scenes, and the slow back and forth between Broly and Gogeta was great; need more of that instead of abrupt finishing moves all of a sudden. I personally pretty much can’t fault Super Hero and loved every minute of it. Piccolo going giant was incredible and I love that they brought that technique back!! He’s my favourite character overall so that movie was an absolute blast for me. My only dislike of it was the abrupt ending, but still quite satisfying.

Broly was clearly done better as a spectacle, its a way better movie than super hero, retconning broly and minus is huge. The build up fights looked amazing and gogeta v broly was sick. Super hero is the better story, I think less time was needed to showcase picolos teddies, Dr hero and magenta and more focus on Beast. The overarching theme was picolo wanted gohan to establish that he needed to be ready to be the hero. They needed to give Beast more time, more build up. Picolo orange made perfect sense and was brilliant mind you. Brolys better if you need to watch a film, hero is better to disect, discuss and establish the story going forward

I think it was such a good thing that they made Piccolo the main character of the movie and that he got two new transformations. You can't blame Toei Animation experimenting with CGI animation but I prefer my dragon ball to be hand drawn. Looking forward to seeing what new content they give us in the future! :)

The beautiful thing is that everyone got their personal taste. For my personal taste I love the Broly movie but I don't like the Super Hero movie besides few moments like the fight with Cell Max. But basically DBS SH is very low on my tier list. While the Broly movie doesn't match up with the original DBZ Broly movie in my opinion but pretty good.

Broly is 10x better than super hero movie,has more passion and blizzard song is awesome soundtrack. Superhero have good graphic. Keep up awesome and amazing job Geekdom 👍

Broly animation and look trumps everything. It was so nostalgic, it was soooo dragonball z. Yes super hero had a good story. But if they just took that one positive, the inclusion of other characters then everything else broly. THEN dragonball could come back better then EVER

Super Hero was needed for Gohan to have a clear starting point in the series other than being the student that's too busy to take care of the world dangers. If they don't take advantage of this plot to make Gohan's character develop even more in the future then I can agree with the haters saying that SH was bad and/or a waste. For now it's a fantastic movie in my eyes.

That's a surprisingly tough call. Broly is, I think, the better package. The animation, the story, the characters, nothing doesn't hit on some level. But Super Hero, while it's more flawed I feel, it felt like the first true step forward for the series since... Well maybe since Super began.

Both movies are great and worth multiple views. However If I must pick 1 over the other, I'd say dragon ball super Broly was the winner. It had this continously building tension, insane action, had my favorite characters. Super hero had lots of slice of life which I was thankful for though. Gohan isn't my favorite character, but he was good throughout the movie. Just didn't have that same tension that the previous movie had.

I love both movies and I think they were really solid on their own right, but I think Broly is the better movie.
