I really think everyone is over simplifying this. In America comics have color. Always have to the best of my knowledge. Manga is different from western comics. Pretend your a 7 year old in 2000 who's never heard the word anime and the only comic book you've ever seen was your uncle's "collection" of Marvel and DC. Manga has a unique aesthetic because they go for the black and white.

If those shows were my only exposure to anime, I wouldn't actually know much about manga since I've never real the manga for Dragon Ball or DBS. However, ai have been a huge fan of manga and anime, so I was able to learn about simple stuff like this when I was a kid. BTW, anime's explosion into the US happened when I was a kid. I was in the perfect time to learn all about it.

You're assume anyone who watches anime reads manga. Especially the kids. I know that when I was a kid, I didn't actually read any manga until I got quite a bit older. One of my first mainstream manga titles was book one of Naruto. So, no, not everyone automatically knows manga is not in color like American comics.

I think the paragraph below the image insinuates something so much worse because I really do believe that Manga is an extremely special medium that is also all of its own and that the average western comic cannot hold a candle to the art in proper manga (the procedurally manufactured garbage light-novel adaptations don't count). This is why the paragraph insinuating that they haven't 'yet' begun to publish in colour is insulting since the charm of the hand-drawn black and white art style is often a joy compared to the coloured version. Even the coloured version of Dragon Ball loses something for me, it doesn't seem as sharp and masterful and - whatever your opinion of Toriyama may be - you cannot deny that he has one of the most distinct and brilliant art styles to have ever graced the medium.

The difference in pacing between DBZ, the Dragon Ball manga and other manga serialising at that time was insane. Most WSJ manga serialised 18-22 pages per chapter, every week. Dragon Ball chapters were only 13-15 pages long. So here's the problem. In the 80s, action anime only adapted 1-2, or 1 and a half chapters per episode. 50 manga chapters equalled 50 anime episodes, usually with 5-10 episodes of those 50 being entirely filler. This was manageable because pacing was faster, with more plot points being addressed in the space of a single chapter, so stories were shorter at the time. You'll notice a lot of 80s manga have less than 30 total volumes, and the ones that had more tended to not get adaptations that exceeded 150-200 episodes. So when the Dragon Ball manga's pacing started to slow down in the Freeza arc... Toei, instead of deciding to produce more fully filler episodes to compensate, instead tried to implement filler INTO canon episodes, while only adapting 1 chapter per episode. So, with only 13-15 pages to work with per episode... yeah, if Fist of the North Star was struggling with its pacing with 20 pages to work with per episode, you can imagine what happened to DBZ.

My cousin ben loved dbz and ed edd and eddy he got me into both. I always begged to stay at my aunts as a kid and hang out with him he was like 10 years older. We would always quote "buttered toast" in the eddy voice constantly lol He had a old orange curtain covered with freeza saga characters and I was like wtf is that that looks awesome and he introduced me to dragon ball z freeza saga and I have been a nerd for it and legit loved dbz ever since. He showed me final fantasy, dbz and ed edd and eddy and magic the gathering. I know the story and how stuff functions by heart but I have learnt so much from your channel when it comes to toriyama inspirations, information on the voice actors, and eastern culture and mythology from this channel and of course I just love rehashing things I already understand like the recent kamahamaha video. I knew dbz came before street fighter but I didn't know toriyama wife came up with the kamahamaha name until I watched it. That is the kind of stuff I love learning from your channel. Ed Edd n Eddy is one of my favorite cartoon alongside some others. I would like to see this series get revived with a new arc of the Ed’s now being liked by the other kids. As far as the content in both manga and anime, I agree that the manga’s generally more violent compared to the anime. The anime itself has to tone it down for a specific audience (unless it’s the Japanese version).

I always knew that the true statement was 8000 but I personally always preferred 9000 because it showed that Goku was a genuine threat to Vegeta (with Kaio-Ken) but also showed that it doesn't matter if someone is born "low-class" because with enough determination you can become just as good if not better than someone that was born "high-class" which to me was the reason Vegeta was so shocked because his people's belief that a persons potential is measured at birth was wrong something he grew up believing
