A wonderful example of Metamorphosis.The nymph ;lives under water for 4 years (Some species 6 years) catching small fish and water insects, Eventually it climbs out of the water, its back splits open and the Dragonfly as we know it emerges.

I found several of these on the Mississippi River in SE Minnesota mid July. I knew that they were to big to be mayflies. I had no idea that they could catch small fish while in the nymph stage. Thanks for the informative video.

Thank you for sharing and explaining. I seem to have a small club of these living in my birdbath (tropical climate). I have been wondering what they're finding to eat. Certainly they are taking care of any mosquito larvae because I have not seen one survive since they appeared!

This video was really cool. Thank you. I’m using it to help understand the way they move and what they look like for a fly for fly fishing. The lake I’m going to be using it on is called Christmas tree lake in arizona on the White Mountain Apache Reservation. The names the lake after a giant spruce tree that was cut and given to the White House as the Christmas tree.

Matthew Wygand. Various ways. remove all plants and fish to another tank and use copper. Shrimps/snails MUST be removed before copper treatment

I don't like them in my pond, they eat my tadpoles. I spend a lot of time scooping my pond and killing the little monsters.

We used to scoop daphnia from a pond to feed our fishies and one of these guys was included in the catch. It got put into the baby guppy tank and ate every one. They are voracious.

Just found 1 of these on my nano tank which is indoor and only 1 door that rarely opened. Glad I found him before further destruction, I suspect he already feast on my shrimps babies, because from 3 shrimps that lay eggs, I can only spot 4 baby shrimps that make it...
