I’m just jealous that these homeowners get these incredible videos explaining exactly what you are doing and why you are doing it. I recently had siding and a roof put on and I hated how out of the loop I was on everything. They tried to skip house wrap but because I came home early I was able to put a stop to the work until they got the correct materials
@GCFD3 жыл бұрын
Yikes and yikes! I always prefer the homeowner is around during the install. I encourage them to come out and see the work we are doing (some worry that they are hanging over our shoulders) because they get to see the struggle and see we get it correct. The only time someone doesn't want you hanging over their shoulder is if they are doing crappy work.

All my gutters go into a massive underground tank that waters the yard and gardens. Most of my rental properties have drains daylighting under the front sidewalk and coming out via the front curb. This way it goes right into the storm drains instead of channeling int a swale or a yard channel. All that work to see a nice small flow out the front end of the yard...So worth it!!

@GCFD3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what the slope was so can't tell you the max water the pipe can handle. This 4" is overkill but that's how I like it. I don't measure the slope in a long run like that because I don't need to. As long as the pipe is falling with the grade, I'm good. Great comment!

In my area of WA state's North Olympic Peninsula drainage onto the street is a no-no. Though the drainage pipes do not actually egress over the curb any substantial rain will create a bog at the property edge and maybe undermine the paved road. Rain gardens have become the thing here as a catchment. Like any landscaping element the rain garden will need to be maintained and seasonally groomed. Is the channel silt screen adequate for the long haul?

Hello In the UK we have Rain Water Harvesting systems to collect and store water underground. Basically excavate a hole about the size of a car or two. Install a tank or fill hole with gravel or special blocks (they look a bit like milk crates), then cover over and install a manhole for access and to install a sump pump. The water can be used to irrigate the garden, fill toilet cisterns inside the home (with dedicated pipework) or use for whatever does not require clean mains water supply.

Love watching and learning from your videos. Didn’t see a price for a job like this? My job would probably be a little smaller than this but would involved cutting some concrete to insert channel drain. What’s the cost for something like that about that size
@benjaminreinhardt2593 жыл бұрын
That ground auger is interesting. I can see the value in that. I've tunneled under a few sidewalks w/ a sledge hammer and a pressure washer - messy, involved project. For others watching this, be conscious of where your air inlets for the drill motor are while working - don't want to suck dirt through the motor. That looks like a lot of roof area dumping into a single 4" pipe to my untrained eye. Do you have a formula or chart for the maximum amount of roof area to each pipe size? Thanks for another good video.
@GCFD3 жыл бұрын
I don't have a formula but it depends on how much fall you have. I have taken the 4" into 6" with areas with little fall. In areas like this with a steep downgrade I don't worry too much.
@philipwai50833 жыл бұрын
I am puzzling why the bends of the drainage is not allowed for small inspection manhole, in case of blockage? It’s impossible to unblock this drainage system, without digging up the pipes?

We use a sewer jetter hose that attaches to a pressure washer. Or a sewer snake. The pipe is strong enough to handle either in case of a clog.

I dont understand why in USA it is not plumbing code to have all water down pipes connected to storm water drain and out to gutter. In Australia all down pipes from house must be plumbed to gutter in residential streets, I can only assume it has something to do with water freezing in certain areas. Could someone explain reasons behind this

I really wish you were in Cleveland, Ohio. Could you do a video on how to find a good local drainage company?

I don't really know any other drainage companies that try to address and solve the problem. They seem to want to dig a trench and throw in a corrugated pipe. That's why I started GCFD!

what happen if it gets stopped up?where do you begin to unstop it?

The channel has grates that pop out so you can clean it out. Once into the pipe, we're falling at a full bubble so no debris will stay in there.

I was wondering, do you ever capture the discharge from the air conditioning condenser? They really spit out a lot of water during the summer from the humidity. Just saw the unit and had the wild thought. Another great video! On a much smaller scale I used your content to divert one of my gutters. About twenty feet of work but it is running great. I had a full bubble the whole way.

We often do catch the condenser lines. I carry the fittings with me at all times.
