I've just come home from work and I'm watching a man empty a fuel tank!👍

LOL! My cousin sent me a box of Jaffa Cakes for Christmas For fun I was going to do a comparison for Christmas as the Dollar shop ones are made in Poland and remarkably the same as the original . A man eating Jaffa cakes! - now that is boring! Mike

I use a Hardi-Pump to empty a 50l barrel of veggy oil into my auxillary tank during long distance rides. It takes an hour but it's funny to watch the needle climbing while running another 100km.

Transferring Ok with Diesel I guess, but can probably be very dangerous with gasoline/avgas. An aircraft maintenance engineer in Porcupine burnt his homebuilt aircraft project (RV I believe), and several very expensive customers airplanes and a complete hangar/work shop while transferring fuel from a wing to regular red gasoline containers sitting on a concrete floor. I'm not sure of the science but somehow a build-up of a static charge caused a spark and started a flame. It had supposedly happened to the AME in the past, so he was prepared with and able to extinguish it with a handheld fire extinguisher in the past, but on this particular day, the flame was too intensive / extensive and he was not able to control it and lost his build project, the customers float planes and the hangar too (He got out in time but also burnt his arm going back to reach in and retrieve a set of truck keys hanging near the entrance as he needed to move the truck out of the way as it was parked near the hangar too). Anyhow, long story to say that it is probably not just a spark from the battery that needs to be worried about but also possible sparks from static electricity that develops while transferring fuel. Maybe you can do a video of an experiment (safely) on how that could happen or how that works, and why we'd need to be careful of it.

With Petrol producing heavy vapours it will hang about on the floor a long time (this is why pits are outlawed in many countries) Nasty stuff and why I work outside when draining petrol tanks I did my apprenticeship in a petrochemical works and know all too well about static - our boots were issued but the company and had anti static strips built in

Ever thought of fitting an electric pump instead of the lift pump
@BritannicaRestorations5 жыл бұрын
Yes I have - -but not on a customers car - I would like to test one first Mike

I would be interested to see if this would work instead of the lift pump. I an waiting for mine to go and wondering what I’ll put in when it does.

Jottingsfrom I met someone at a p&p day who was going to fit td5 tank and pump on his 200tdi as he was fed up with failing lift pumps, so I assume it would be fine

I think a Td5 pump would be a little too high pressure - a regular lift pump is 3-4 psi
