Where is your attention right now? Hopefully it’s on these words - but if you’re getting distracted and are contemplating what you’ll have for dinner or running through your to-do list, please know that you are not alone. Today’s guest shares research which shows that most of us are missing up to 50% of our lives. But if you’d like to change that for the better, you’re in the right place.

To truly focus your attention on anything, you must believe that the thing you focus your attention on is important to you. I am notoriously inattentive, but when I become truly interested in a new endeavor or acquiring a new knowledge or skill, I become very focused and master something new in a relatively short time.

Situational awareness. Being aware of not only what is going on around you but how it changes your out look. This would be a balance between the best of both worlds.

I totally get the stay mindful and in the present argument… However we are human beings and we have the cognitive capacity to project out into the future and run scenarios… And also reflect on past experiences using this amazing simulation brain that we have. And to suggest that we should stop moving into the future trying to figure out how things will work or to stop reviewing the past is inappropriate. I love this show and I always have and I think it’s freaking phenomenal and I’ve learnt so much from many many episodes. Just adding to the conversation. I don’t think it being 100% present is possible or even useful.

There has to be some explanation of what you mean by different words, so are you equating attention with focus, because in focus we exclude things from the object of our focus, but attention seems like have a more inclusive quality, so attention is more closely related to awareness, which is totally different than focusing.

I feel like this episode would have been more enjoyable had you just let the conversation flow freely, instead of being so rigid on what you wanted her to talk about. There were a lot of times where I feel she was touching on something pivotal but you cut her off and said something like " we can come back to that later, this is what I want you to talk about." It was really annoying. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm deeply interested In the subject of attention I'd have probably switched off.

AMAZING HOW REGARDING FOCUSING,STUDYING,IS LIFE AND DEATH TO SURVIVE IN CULTURE LIKE BABYLON ,IRAQ FOR A FEMALE CHILD.FOCUSING BECOME AN INNATE NATURE AND NOT LUXURY TO MIND WONDER.this will last all life to focus ,learn, and not to waste time on trivial in life.Go for the challenge and take the risks.

This explains why people are such terrible drivers. But what can we do about it? Because the drivers where I live drive me bat sh-t crazy. I literally have to do my shopping at times of the day when the least are out, just to keep my peace. Their attention to what they're doing is like deer in the headlights. I think 5G is having a huge impact, but I eat foods that maximize brain function, and wear a hat that protects against 5G, so that may be why I seem to notice the steep decline more than others. The zombie apocalypse struggle is real.

LOVE IS BLIND.WHY?IN ROMANTIC LOVE THE EMOTIONAL CENTRE (AMYGDELA) IS FIRING EMOTIONS,AT SAME TIME INHIBITING PREFRONTAL LOBES TO USE REASON.THIS STAT LAST ONE-1-5 YEARS THEN GO BACK TO NORMAL AND NOW A LOVER START TO SEE THE OTHER IS NOT PERFECT.THIS IS PHYSIOLOGY OF LOVE.THERE ARE MANY ESSAYS IN PHYLOSOPHY ABOUT DIFFERENT KINDS OF LOVE,LIKE PLATONIC LOVE,UNCONDITIONAL LOVE OF MOTHER TO HER CHILD AND SO ON.

Have a look at a book by Jane Roberts "The Nature of Personal Reality " its not only fascinatingly enlightening in its content but the source of the author is quite otherworldly. Coming from India myself and most of our scriptures are psychically received the psychic nature of this material didn't phase me because the content is mind blowing.

Hey doc really love your podcasts but I think it’s time you start talking about things like the vaccines and the covid state of the world…feel like you are a bit hesitant to talk about this topic, here you are talking about health and we are being forced to put something into our bodies which is taking our ability to be healthy…so pls ppl are losing their jobs and their livelihoods and you have the power to bring this to the forefront just as Joe Rogan and other podcasters are doing!!

@@anjalisharma1351 ppl like Joe rogan have had many guests on his podcasts who have done the investigating for him he just needs to point his listeners towards those doctors who are doing the good work. I think dr. Rangaan doesn’t want to upset the status quo.

Yes ... absolute garbage ... she even says some really dumb shit: “our attention spans aren’t shrinking. Evolution doesn’t work on that scale” ... ffs evolution works on genetics but genetics isn’t the only factor in your make up. Environment affects it too so an environment of more immediate dopamine hits as exists in the modern world can affect your behaviour even without any genetic changes .... really, really dumb
