What counts as "real" African black soap? What is not real? Considering it's made with ash it makes sense to me if it's black or dark.

Sam S A pure black bar of soap, isn’t true African Black soap. True African Black soap isn’t produced in a factory. It’s made by hand. It’s multicolored of various shades of brown to black. It crumbles apart.
@sam4330
@sam4330 5 жыл бұрын
@@AnekoFoxx Okay, but like, what makes it "true"? A bar of soap isn't a complete other type of soap just because it's made in a factory, there has to be some difference in the process if it looks completely different? And also, how "true" can it be if it's beige? Can it really be beige if it has ash in it? Note that I don't use African black soap and I'm not trying to argue against anything, I'm just curious :)
@michelle-sz3wj
@michelle-sz3wj 5 жыл бұрын
@@sam4330 It sounds like you're arguing in the second sentence masked as a question lol, but if you're genuinely curious, just like you, many people are clueless about this type of thing and in factories its colored black and made smooth. Real African black soap doesn't look very appealing so its a marketing strategy.

I too, appreciate the information Dr Dray freely shares with us, the masses. In the last few years I have seen a couple of different dermatologist and they have given me zero, zip zilch information on anything. Even though I specifically say I want to discuss skin care, they just make non-committal remarks like" Yes, retinol is good." So, they only thing they have done for me is examine my skin for suspicious moles and such. I am not impressed.

for anyone saying this soap is too drying or not for sensitive skin, i found it burned slightly if i leave it on too long. i think the best way to use it is to wet your face, lather the soap in your hands, rub GENTLY onto the skin and rinse IMMEDIATELY. i finish with a few splashes of ice cold water. i have been suffering with adult acne for literally a decade. now after just a couple of weeks my skin is perfectly clear and radiant. i just bought 24 bars so i never run out. it is the best kept secret i've ever discovered.

Ghana black soap and Ghana Shea butter is the best out of all black soaps and Shea butter. The region that produces it almost never alters the process of making it and sticks to the traditional and ancient methods and processes used to make these. Even it’s mechanical method is kept simple just like how it was done centuries ago. If you get authentic black soap or Shea butter from Ghana then you can be rest assured that is the best of its kind. Of course people will try to rip you off but be vigilant.

@zg6879
@zg6879 4 жыл бұрын
Sam S yes, so when you don’t balance the pH, it can be irritating to the skin and eyes. This is different from having too much chlorine. The ratio of chlorine to water can be too high, but can still be combatted with additional pH. You can have a low chlorine to water ratio and still have be irritating without proper pH balancing. I hope this helps to better understand.

On a whim I decided to try it after reading that it’s good for the face. I have problem acne-prone skin and salicylic cleansers keep the pimples at bay, but always inflame my skin slightly. African black soap cleanses, tightens, exfoliates and soothes and I’ve noticed an immediate improvement in my complexion after using it for only a few weeks. I use the Nubian brand with shea butter. It now simplifies logistics since I don’t need separate cleansers for face and body.

You’re not the only one who thinks that ABS is drying and harsh. I mean it does a great job at reducing my dark marks and acne. However, I’ve completely stopped using it because it makes me super oily and dried my skin. It dries my skin so bad that my forehead starts to peel then it makes my face sooo oily afterwards because all the moisture from my face has been striped and my face replenished that moisture with ton loads of grease. Also, over time when I used it on my face I grew to be sensitive to the soap and my face would turn red and would feel tender after washing. I felt it was destroying my skins natural barrier. However, I have been using it as a shampoo and it works wonders for my scalp in comparison to my face.

My skin is so pissed off at everything being oily, irritated and sensitive to fragrances except with African Black Soap. This soap literally takes away the redness out of my face and handles my chronic acne due to a condition I have. It's AMAZING with acne and leaves my face smooth and clean. Now, I understand if dry skinned people find it to be drying because my face is usually excessively oily due to a hormonal issue I have, which the soap takes away, but if you have excessively oily skin then try it and if you have dry skin just use a good moisturizer afterwards and I'm sure it'll work just fine. This soap has changed my life, so giving it a try among most skin types is totally worth it.

My acne is gone, hyperpigmentation is decreasing, skin is becoming more even toned. ABS is a soap, it's not an acne prone product. Its simply a soap. As a soap, if you use it and not apply moisturizer and/or toner afterwards immediately, your skin starts producing more sebum because it thinks its dry and that's where the breakouts come in. I had a breakout with ABS when I was 18, but after learning this I'm using this again at 28 now.

I believe it works differently for everyone. It is drying but that doesn't bother me much because I have really oily skin. I've used the generic unnamed black soap and it broke me out immediately after the shower. But the Dudu Osun brand works wonders for me. I breakout less and I don't have much of a routine but it really works for me. It's also great for washing natural hair.

It's definitely more alkaline and it has a slip that's unlike other bar soaps. I used it exclusively for the acne on my back when I was in HS and it was really good at cutting the oils down without overly stripping or use of abrasive loofahs. I actually enjoyed using this much more than proactiv. Sometimes if I had bad acne on the face I would do a very quick lather and rinse. It also did leave the face brighter, but I think that's more of a transient effect.

I’ve use African black soap and it helped tremendously in clearing up breakouts and evening the skin tone. My skin is oily and I use the raw version of the soap that’s brown in color, with specks of ash, and easily pliable. I always put on a moisturizer afterwards. I know that the ph of ABS goes against the best practices of using a ph-balanced cleanser, but it works for my skin type, and I’ve seen many women who use it have clear, even toned skin.

Hi Doc! (Hello to K!) I buy Nasabb's Black Soap, Alata Samina. Ingredients: roasted plantain skin, cocoa pod, palm kernel oil, palm oil, shea butter, coconut oil. It is not black; no dyes. I've used Nasabb's for many years for washing brushes, washing eyeglasses/sunglasses, washing the cloths I dry my specs with. It rinses perfectly, no residue. Just this morning I washed some silver & gold jewelry with it. It's been years since I used it on my face but may start using it along my jawline where menopause is causing issues with ingrown hair, sigh. Blessings! Jackie in upstate NY

I've been having terrible breakouts for the past few months and neither the topical (tretinoin) nor oral (doxycycline) acne treatment from my derm helped. I started using raw African black soap every other weeknight (M,W,F) a couple of weeks ago and it's doing WONDERS for my skin! Even so, I still use CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser in the mornings and evenings when I don't use ABS so my skin isn't being stripped (along with CeraVe Moisturizing Cream twice a day). If you're having an adverse reaction, keep in mind this soap can be a bit strong, so try to alternate with a gentler cleanser to give your skin a break

I’ve struggled with acne and hyperpigmentation for years through high school and middle school and I’ve tried so many things but nothing worked for me. The first week that I tried African black soap paired with shea butter as my moisturizer my skin did a complete 180 my skin cleared completely in about 2-3 months of use. I’m going on my 2nd year of use and I LOVE IT. I think the reason it doesn’t work for some people is because they don’t use it the right way. From what I’ve read since African black soap is so basic you need to use a toner to help bring the ph back down to where it should be or a slightly more acidic moisturizer 🤷🏽‍♀️ just my hypothesis tho

I have sensitive skin it work for me but not all black soap. Some are mixed with ingredients that cause irritation. Agro waste she mentions are various vegetables and oil. I have bought various brands and react badly to some. Bottle and bar some makers need to put full ingredients on packaging. I now get mine from local sellers so I can ask what has been mixed inside. Understand that just like shampoo or hair dye or body lotion ingredients matter. Just because it's called African black soap does not mean it all has the exact same ingredients. She just said "Capitalise that" some of these cosmetic industries have made it but I am such they put chemicals in it just like the do with shea butter. The only way to know is to get the local one with natural ingredients which has nothing you could be allergic to.

Iv'e been using African Black soap for about six months. I noticed a slight reduction in my mild KP, though no reduction in my mild body acne. I am obsessed with the smell (I use Shea Moisture brand) but thats pretty much the extent of its benefits for me. Although it is less drying than regular bar soap IMO, since I've started using a 4% BP wash, I find that the drying has become irritating, and I will be finding a new body cleanser when the soap runs out. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: The oils and dark color WILL MAKE YOUR SHOWER DIRTIER FASTER, or at least make it VERY VERY obvious when it needs to be cleaned. If i splash soap on the walls and it dries there, it will be grey. kinda gross.

I haven’t used raw African black soap, but I do keep a bar of African black soap from shea moisture or Nubian heritage in my bathroom. (Both bars are very similar) For a few years I had really bad eczema on my hands. my fingers swelled up, I had bumps all over my hands, my skin was cracking and bleeding, it was SO itchy and embarrassing. I tried different soap and lotions and everything would irritate the skin and feel like it was burning/stinging. I heard about African black soap and pretty quickly it helped my eczema go away. However, it is very drying. So after trying out some hand creams and lotion, I’ve settled on using Trader Joe’s head to toe moisturizing balm. Now my hands look normal unless I use a different soap or lotion, so I’m pretty satisfied with the African black soap I use. I just wish there was a similar product in a liquid soap form so I could take it on the go!

Not sure about over-the-counter ABS from Target and such because it has a lot of additives in it. I said all of that to say this: IT HAS CLEARED MY SKIN! I have struggled with acne since I was 14 and this is the only soap that has really worked for me. My skin did go through a purging process for about three weeks, but I stuck with it and use it all over my body now. Don’t get discouraged with the purge! I use a micellar water to remove makeup and then I use the ABS. I hope this can help someone else. Everyone’s skin is different! Give it a try 🥰🥰🥰

Real raw African black soap usually has 4 ingredients which are plantain ashes, cocoa pods, water and something else. But I buy from a Ghanaian brand on Amazon and Etsy called The Plant Guru and she adds vitamin E oil, shea butter, coconut oil and cocoa butter so it’s not as stripping. Most manufacturers today add oils to it so it won’t be so stripping but still gets the job done. I love it and live by it. I use the paste, actual soap and liquid form. I slather my body in coconut oil or shea butter after and I’m good. And she’s right! People of African descent have been using it for centuries. It works.

An industrial waste product with a lot of pseuodoscientific claims and appeales to tradition behind it. I think a big part of people saying they like it is just that they want to like it since it is exotic and "traditional".

for me it was kinda good, I used it only for a week and I had EXTREMELY oily skin before and after that week I have never had such skin issues again. idk what it was nor how it helped but it did.

Jane Erstić SAME! It was weird. My face would be dry on the surface yet super duper oily as the day went on despite me moisturizing. It made my acne worse too.

kissmeifly it’s not an industrial waste product, authentic black soap is made from natural ingredients. Not everyone likes it but the people that do like it, like it because it works for them. You may not like it, but to say other people like it because it’s exotic is just pure ignorance

ABS IS SUPPOSED TO BE DILUTED. you pinch off a piece (it should be a soft soap like a putty if it’s real) Pinch off a small amount and mix it with water THEN apply it to the skin. It can be quite harsh if you just apply it directly to the skin.

Acne prone, oily skin here! I’ve used the Sheamoisture brand of African black soap and I enjoy it a lot! I don’t find it strips my skin and love the results and the way my skin feels! I believe they market theirs toward problematic and troubled, dry skin, but I find it works great for me!

Can you do a review on Dr. Bronners soap it claims to be a all in one soap and I’ve been using it however my mom used it a few days and she said that it made her skin darker. Thank You!
@momoontour2736

Raisa Chowdhury please just overthink what you just said “all in one soap”. Why on earth would you put an all in one soap on your face or body? You can literally clean your whole house with it. This just screams harsh. Also remember soaps in general are bad for your skin. Please do not use Dr Bronners, it will mess up your skins pH and remove all the good stuff that’s on your skin!

I tried the peppermint one it was too harsh. I haven't tried another because was able to get local black soap. I only try other things when my black soap is finished. I think it was the peppermint that was too much though. Might try other ones when my black soap finishes.

Omg that soap is so drying. It’s good for cleaning but please don’t put it on your skin 😂 I put on a pair of black pants and when I took them off they looked white from all my skin flakes

I tried using Ghanaian Black soap for over a year to clear my acne and scarring, didn’t notice much difference except over time my skin became very sensitive and started stinging. It makes sense after the fact now that you said it has a high pH😭 I wish I had that info before

@@winter107 the real black soap do not come in fancy packages and do not have ingredients written out ..they are wrapped in paper or nylon. The company must have diluted it

Mama fine one it wasn’t in fancy packaging it was in a plastic wrap and it probably wouldn’t have had such adverse effects if it was diluted. Not everyone can use it. What works for you doesn’t work for me.

I'm a big fan of African Black Soap. I use it as a daily facial cleanser, to wash my head hair and beard and DEFINITELY after I shave. When I wash my head hair and beard, I only do one pass cuz it'll definitely dry out your skin and hair, on the second pass. Overall all it's a great product. It cleared up blackheads on my nose and helps basically eliminate shaving bumps. I've used soap imported from Ghana and Nigeria but they both work the same for me. Thanks for the video 😀

🙂 african black soap is very good. i use the homemade, lumpy brown one you get from the africans. i cut it into small, manageable pieces. it's kinda like the texture of a firm cheese.

Yay I was waiting for your review on this lol. I think this product works well is because the ingredients are safe and natural. There are a lot of new brands now creating great African black soaps and they all have different compositions. I love the liquid line by Ra Cosmetics and use it on face hair and body. I'm not surprised it could be in the drying side because I think West Africans tend to have oilier skin. Anyways interesting video loving your channel

I buy Dudu Osum from Amazon, it was recommended to me by my sister who uses it on her dreadlocks and her skin (which are perfect). I find it slightly drying on my skin but I noticed it fades my scars and black spots. I always moisturise after using it (every over day), I found it doesn't work as a shampoo if the water is too hard, it worked great with soft water. ❤
