Anecdotally, I've used both on and off since the 90's and think that Differin is comparable in effect to the lowest strength tretinoin. Weak evidence, I know, but thought that might be helpful to someone out there. I'd buy Differin or generic adapalene any day over a cosmetic retinol product for sun spots, fine lines and improving skin texture based on my experience with it.

I am absolutely OBSESSED with Differin. I’ve been using it for decades. I can’t really tolerate tretinoin. I have rosacea, and tretinoin really tears my face up something terrible. However, Differin actually seems to calm my rosacea and gives me baby soft, smooth, even skin. Now into my 50’s…I have very few very fine lines. I attribute that to my decades of differin use. I used to get it from my derm with an rx. Now I just buy the OTC version. Love it!

Both adapalene and tretinoin are topical retinoids that are effective for treating acne and signs of aging. However, there are some key differences between the two medications. Adapalene Adapalene is a third-generation retinoid that is available over-the-counter (OTC) in the United States. It is less irritating than tretinoin and is a good option for people with sensitive skin. Adapalene is effective for treating mild to moderate acne, but it is not as effective as tretinoin for severe acne. Adapalene has also been shown to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but it is not as potent as tretinoin for anti-aging. Tretinoin Tretinoin is a first-generation retinoid that is available by prescription. It is the most potent retinoid available and is the gold standard for treating acne and signs of aging. Tretinoin is effective for treating all types of acne, including mild, moderate, and severe acne. It is also effective for improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and hyperpigmentation. However, tretinoin can be irritating to the skin, especially when first starting out. Overall, tretinoin is the more effective medication for acne and anti-aging. However, adapalene is a good option for people with sensitive skin or those who are new to retinoids. Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Adapalene Gel 0.1% Versus Tretinoin Gel 0.025% in the Treatment of Acne Vulgaris: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Multi-Center Study Tretinoin Gel 0.025% Versus Adapalene Gel 0.1% in the Treatment of Facial Acne in Asian Patients: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Multi-Center Study British Journal of Dermatology Adapalene and Tretinoin: A Review of Their Comparative Efficacy and Safety in the Treatment of Acne Vulgaris Adapalene and Tretinoin: A Comparative Review of Their Efficacy and Safety in the Treatment of Photoaging Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy Adapalene Versus Tretinoin for the Treatment of Acne Vulgaris: A Review of the Literature Adapalene and Tretinoin: A Comparative Review of Their Efficacy and Safety in the Treatment of Facial Wrinkles and Fine Lines

I just started using differin exactly 3 weeks ago as I was so afraid of purging and have acne on just my cheeks. I've suffered with hormonal acne for 10 years now and although it calmed down as I got older, I was still getting deep scarring that takes forever to heal. It is just my luck that after 2 weeks, I'm not really breaking out anymore. I know I can't really say I'm in the clear until the next 2ish months go by, but I'm super happy right now! I already see my hyperpigmentation fading each day along with consistent sunscreen use

Great timing for this video for me! I just started using Differin. I’ve stayed away from it because I thought it would be too harsh or drying for me, compared to other retinoids. I guess my experience with other topical acne treatments has made me apprehensive. But I’ve been struggling more and more with acne, even though I was using retinal. I’ve only used Differin twice (introducing it slowly), but I haven’t had any adverse effects so far. This video has made me much more confident that I’ll be able to tolerate it and that it may be a great retinoid for me!

I started using it right after it became over the counter. I used to use a ton of products and I was still getting hormonal acne in my mid 30s. 5ish years on differin and I use a mild DHC bar soap to cleanse and cerave moisturizer. Skin looks amazing. I'm 40 now and people think I'm still in my 20s. Saving so much money, time and heartbreak. Obsessed with the product and thank you Dr Dray for your video getting me through the beginning when I was dried out and peeling like a lizard. I eventually adapted and it was worth it.

I've used Differin regularly for 5+ years. It has done wonders to my skin. Didn't get rid of acne completely but it is much more under control than before and spots are smaller and not huge bumps as I had before. The biggest improvement has been smoothness and brightness of the skin - it looks flawless now and so soft to touch. It took me long time to get used to it since I have sensitive skin but has been skin changing. Now I am trying isotretinoin topical - I'm finding it way gentler than Differin and was able to use it every day since beginning with no irritation. I've also got some tazarotene to try next.

This Rosacea condition is so weird and unpredictable. I really started heavy on adapalene gel, almost every day with no bad reaction from my Rosacea. It has improved my pustule and papules a lot, too. On the other side I can't tolerate any serums, most moisturizers and only one single sunscreen. My derm would never prescribe me adapalene, I had to actively ask for it. Finacea is drying for me, soolantra too moisturizing and we have also tried a antibiotic cream and that made my face so itchy. I am so happy I found Dr dray to introduce me to adapalene.

The itching, stinging red bumps around my mouth and chin were so painful. It had also begun to spread outward on my cheeks. Thank goodness I found a treatment to clear it up quickly. It took time for my skin to get used to it and I would have breakouts sometimes worse than before Differin and in areas that previously were not a problem. Earlier this month speaking with a group of lady friends one wished me happy birthday, I said thanks but 63 isn't a special milestone and I wasn't celebrating. Several gasped, saying they thought I was mid fifties. I have to admit I did lapse a bit in my care except cleansing and sunscreen this year, some hyperpigmentation from sun damage decades ago on my very fair skin had returned. I have promised my self to do better and returned to adapalene, trentinoin is not in my budget.

I love differin I used it for acne but seem to have developed just white heads and bumps on my nose and redness. Rocscea meds did not work so tried this (old tube from doctor when I had acne) and this helps a lot. Thank you this explains why so I will ask the doctor to prescribe me more.

I have rosacea & eczema & I tolerate Differin gel pretty well. I found that using it allowed me to use less of my Rx rosacea cream & really helped combat milia & white heads that I can get from using makeup/skincare that contains silicones. I try not to use too many actives on my skin since it causes irritation & keep my skincare routine very gentle & basic. Differin can be drying so I'd advise a good moisturizer & experimenting with applying the Differin *after" moisturizer if your skin is very dry/sensitive.

Have you considered trying a lower strength tretinoin? I believe the lowest strength is 0.025. You might be able to work up to using a lower strength more than once a week, then graduate to the next higher strength?
@SueRosalie
@SueRosalie Жыл бұрын
once a week is not enough for efficacy and retinization. You need to be on a lower percentage so that you can use it daily and get the results as per the research.

If you don't want to "officially" go to a lower dose version, my derm told me yesterday that I can just mix the tretinoin with moisturizer to effectively lower the concentration. I've been using .025% and want to go up to .05% for my forehead and between my eyebrows, but was afraid it would be too much for my nose, cheeks, and chin. She said to mix it 50/50 with mild moisturizer and it will dilute the concentration down to .025% and use that for the more sensitive areas.

I’ve been using differin for a few years, it helped so much with my acne and texture. Now however, I’ve been struggling with extreme dryness. So I’ve cut back on using differin, because I’ve heard that you shouldn’t use very occlusive moisturizers with it at night, which right now is the only thing helping me with the dryness. How often should I use differin to get the benefits? How can I use it while still keeping my skin moisturized?

I started using Differin in April. It's taken a while but I have not had any breakouts the last few months and my skin texture seems smoother. I have not experienced any irritation or dryness at all but I do use a moisturizer after applying. And my dark marks from previous breakouts are fading. I've been pleased so far and will continue to use it. Thanks, as always, Dr Dray. Happy Thursday! I hope you have a lovely evening. 💙

No, this is my first time trying one. That's why I introduced it very slowly. Because my skin is so sensitive, I was worried I'd have a negative reaction. Which has happened many times in the past if I start a new product. I've learned over the years that for me, slow is the way to go.
