It has been two years since the Dominion was nearly destroyed in a savage, unprovoked attack. The Captain has been absolved of wrong doing, the ship has been repaired, and the re-launch is only hours away.
Now, when the Captain (Commodore Grissom) finds that he is riddled with self doubts and guilt, he receives help from a very unlikely place.

This gives me a lot more insight into the Captain's background and why the decisions were made later that effected so many. Well acted on everyone's part. I do have to comment that the exterior scenes of the ships were just beautiful. I was once again envious of those will one day 'boldly go'.

@@RandyWrenn I can see if you were having a little friction with the Romulans over a disputed system you could send in a Dreadnought class ship into that sector. Oh, I don't know. To deliver some much needed blank DSF-2404 forms. The job is never done until the paperwork is done. In my time we used DA-2404 forms in the US Army. In the 22nd Century Starfleet used DSF-2404 digital tablets to record maintenance procedures. Those tablets Yeoman Rand was always getting Captain Kirk to sign. So having a Dreadnought class ship delivering these important tablet forms to the small Starbase near a disputed zone would show our .......ummm....friends that we are there and we are going to protect our interests. I would call it " Gunship Diplomacy ". Cruise softly......but carry a fully charged Phaser Bank.

You have to realize many of the people in Star Fleet come from heavy gravity planets. That is why they have such solid low CG builds on them. And yes, I resemble that remark. If that doesn't work for you remember the philosophy of IDIC.

LOL. It's nice to hear from a Star Trek fan that understands. Some knuckleheads can't seem to get through their heads is that fan films aren't like commercial films. We don't go out looking for the youngest, thinnest, prettiest people we can find. Fan films are films made by a group of friends who have a common interest. And we make no apologizes for our ages or belt sizes.

@@thefurrybastard1964 Thanks Batman. I don't understand why some people just can't understand the difference between a network TV show and a fan film. It's not that complicated. Yes, if I were producing a network TV show, I wouldn't hire and older, overweight guy to play these parts either. (It may not be fair, but it's just the way it is) But this is a fan film. And all you need to qualify is to be... a fan. We understand that traditional fan films like ours, may not be everyone's cup of tea, and that's OK. But it's just silly to hold us to the same restrictions, and requirements as a big budget, professional show.

Wow......I never saw a Star Trek fan film using the Dreadnought and Saladin designs from the Franz Josef Book. I had the Star Trek Technical Manual and the USS Enterprise Blueprints when I was a boy. Great looking bridge set and other ship areas as well. Not sure why that technician was using a long range communication beacon normally issued to landing parties underneath that bridge console. Maybe he was calibrating it. How cool they were able to cast George ( the animal ) Steel as the commodore. Hmm, but wait a second. Wouldn't you normally find a Commodore in command of a flotilla of ships?

Cool! We're happy to do something a little different There were a few things we couldn't do due to cost constraints (such as two turbolifts on the bridge) but, we did our best.

Assuming that we use the British Navy as the model, there were two classes of commodore (at least after 1826). First rank commodores did not command ships themselves, but had captains under them. Second rank commodores commanded ships. This system eventually fell out of use, with commodore being an appointment rather than a rank (I.e. the commander of the destroyers within a fleet would be appointed commodore, but might rank as a senior captain) until 1997, when it returned to the regs. In the US Navy, it only became a formal rank during the American Civil War lasting until 1899, when the rank was discontinued and all commodores were made into rear admirals. This was apparently done because commodores were not being treated as flag officers in foreign ports. Ironically, this caused a rift with the Army because of pay issues that went to the Supreme Court. There was a brief resurgence of the rank during World War II, and then again in the early days of the Reagan Administration (the position had remained in use), but these were short lived and there is no current rank of commodore. Both the Navy and Coast Guard use the title of commodore to refer to the captain in charge of certain facilities or units. Thus, the use of commodore for a very senior captain would not be unprecedented, although I would think that there would be some other ships under his control- even if not operating as an integrated task force.

I just watched ep 102. It seems to me this should have been part of ep 101. Maybe one of the principals was not available when the lounge scene needed to be filmed. Either way it is good to get more back story on the characters. I admired the quality of " Prelude To Axanar " but I hate how it has now limited what are the true fan Trek film makers like yourselves . In the past Paramount/CBS was willing to turn a blind eye to Star Trek fan films but Axanar had to go a bridge too far. They made their film so good and collected so much money that it registered on USS Paramount's long range sensors. Now you all need to follow the oppressive Organian peace being forced upon you. I have a strange feeling that as long as the body mass index average of your cast exceeds by 20% the average population and you include one cast member who has studied at the Larry Storch Acting Academy you will be ok. Any idea when we can expect ep 103 ?

I hesitate to even venture a guess. The shoot for episode 3 has been delayed multiple times. Once because we couldn't get all of our cast to the studio. Once because we had to back up and punt when the new guidelines came out, and once because our studio packed up and moved to a new location. We're still waiting for them to be completely re-built in their new location. But at this moment, out plan is to shoot the majority of episodes 3 & 4 around November of 2017. We've re-written what was one episode and made two episodes out of it. A few other scenes that will be shot in other locations will (hopefully) be shot in 2018 We're extremely excited about episodes 3 & 4. They are the first episodes to feel like real, full episodes instead of shorts.... even though they will be under 15 minutes long.

@RandyWrenn
@RandyWrenn 5 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Normally it probably would. But, after the show was created using the Dreadnought class ship, the show creators quit the show leaving us nuts to run the asylum. We didn't want the show to be about fighting and tense stand-offs all the time. We wanted it to be more like the original series. So we could go back and start over with a different class ship, or... just kind of ignore logic and keep rolling. We decided to keep rolling. (Dreadnoughts also have a second turbolift on the other side of the Captain's chair... but don't tell anybody. LOL)

I realize it's a derivative idea, but I've always wanted to see a a Battlestar theme in the Star Trek universe. Your dreadnought class leading a hodge podge fleet to a distant, soon to close wormhole purported to lead to some miraculously safe sector as they're being pursued by a Borg assimilated species (I forget their designation). Say, a branch that had been assimilated before the species had evolved their nanite immunity.

as an avid Trek fan I like what I see here. Couple of questions... Why did you decide on a Dreadnought? It is NOT an exploration vessel! Its a "show of force" district command ship. Very expensive to operate! I mean, I can appreciate that you are using something different than the Constitution class, but a Dreadnought is a WARSHIP and would only be used as such. Its also too expensive to "run alone" and would have a fleet of destroyers and a scout travelling with it. I have played Star Fleet Battles and owned the Tech manual made by Schnaubelt. Interested in your reply
@gdavisohio
@gdavisohio 6 жыл бұрын
I think you hit the nail right on the head why we chose the Dreadnought.. Its a "show of force"... however.. it's not so much a "warship". To have a Dreadnought stationed in a specific sector would show the sector that the Federation and Starfleet are serious about the security of that said area. It being "too expensive" to run.. I dunno about that. The cost OF the ship would have been "spent".. However, how much "more" could a Dreadnought cost than a Heavy Cruiser.. Maybe half again the cost of a Heavy Cruiser? To operate, its all about the energy, which Star Trek always demonstrated was easily done with the dilithium crystals and matter/antimatter process. However, the MAIN reason we chose it.. it was DIFFERENT. As Randy pointed out.. we did pattern the show after our existing Starfleet International chapter which was a TOS Dreadnought. We wanted to be different. The captain at the time was Commodore... so it only seemed "right" to have him command a "better" ship than normal. THANKS for your comment tho!.. Its GREAT to read fan reactions other than "the actors looked old and fat!"..
