Ever since the first time I seen her in "Annie get your gun " I have loved her. She is amazing to watch, so much energy, and i just love this voice she came up with, it fits so well for Georgina. Betty and Carey both put a great comedy out.

A lot of people didn't know that Betty Hutton trained for 6 months to do her own trapeze work for the movie The greatest show on Earth in 1951 and also was awarded the photoplay magazine award for the favorite actress of 1950 by Cecil B DeMille.

@@candellina6 even her co-stars snubbed Betty on the set of Annie get your gun. Judy Garland had to be replaced for that movie because she was so high on pills and another stuff. You could see it in the film takes of Judy playing the part that she was a wreck at that time.

True story. I started watching this, not knowing who the actors were. I heard that voice and thought she sounded like Betty Hutton, but I thought no, she has brown hair. What a surprise to find out it was Betty all along. Absolutely love her energy and sincerity.

Thanks Hutton Gluttons! I'm a lifelong fan of Betty Hutton's and familiar with all of her work (my favorite film of hers has no singing, oddly enough, which I regret, is 'The Miracle Of Morgan's Creek'), and I've always wondered if in this one instance (in 'Dream Girl'), where she sings the soprano solo of Kyo-kyo San (Butterfly), Un Bel Di (One Fine Day) from Act 2 of Puccini's 1904 opera Madame Butterfly, may have been dubbed, but I haven't found any credits indicating it, which goes to prove just how enormously talented she was as a singer (not that all of her work wouldn't prove it already), and as a performer/entertainer I've always rated her #1. Her vocal range, and the range of her tonality and expression, her capacity for fast tongue-twisting lyrics, her facial and physical movements, from head and shoulders to her hips and toes, as she interprets lyrics and acts them out, every performance was solid gold, so it's really no surprise she could sing operatic soprano as well as any of the very best.

Betty Hutton was one of the most talented women in Hollywood. She was an excellent comedienne and could she sing! The camera loved her. But she seems to have been emotionally fragile. One of Robert Osboure's (TCM's) favorite interviews was with her, she says one of the reasons she dropped out of making movies because during Annie get your gun the entire cast hated her? This seems strange to me, but this was her perception, at least - maybe it was true, but maybe not. She said she felt it was because people felt she stole Judy's and Ethel Merman's role. (I am just quoting this interview) She seemed the type to "wear her heart on her sleeve" and Hollywood is a tough place. She later became involved in a Catholic retreat and found personal peace, getting some advanced education and involving herself in faith and volunteerism. She did seem very happy. Good for her.

That is so true after Annie get your gun Betty starred in The greatest show on Earth while filming this picture Cecil B DeMille gave her the photo play award for the favorite actress of 1950. Like when she told Robert Osborne she felt hurt what other actors were saying she stole the picture from Judy Garland which wasn't true. Judy Garland got fired after she attempted to do Annie get your gun. Judy Garland couldn't do the picture because she was so hung up on alcohol and pills.

Funny thing as talented as Ethel and Judy were they didn't have that it factor stealing the role with talent isn't stealing. She set the standard for the role . Down to earth gets knocked down gets right back up.

From what I know of Betty Hutton she had a horrible youth and was raised in a terrible place. It was actually a bar or maybe even a Bordello. She used to entertain the customers as a teen And that is how she developed her talent as so many young entertainers learned And that is how she developed her talent as so many young entertainers learned In Vaudeville they were out in front of the customers at a young age. With a youth like that I don't think you can expect her to be balanced. From everything I heard her say it seems her entire life was a search for Love real love.

The final third of her life was the most fulfilling of all. Judy Garland's life was not tragic. Her death was tragic. Marilyn Monroe's life was not tragic. Her death was tragic.

Fred MacMurray co-starred with Betty Hutton and the "Angel" sisters. Very funny musical numbers and great acting all around by the whole cast.

After Betty was a success in Annie get your gun in 1950 her fellow cast members treated her so badly on the set because she replaced Judy Garland in the role of Annie. @@brianoyler706 Due to all respect, this movie was all about Betty Hutton. I care less for 2 other actresses you mentioned. I never watched any of the movies with Judy Garland, and I think all she was known for that wierd Wizard of Oz. Betty Hutton had tragic life. Incredibly talented she left Hollywood pretty early because of continuing men sexual harassment. Large part of her life she struggled with addiction. She was living a very lonely life, her own daughters didn't want to see her. And she was dirt poor, while she was one of the biggest star in her time! Especially while living in New York. She eventually moved to the Desert and was lonely, isolated. She also died alone and her family refused to come to her funeral. Check your facts straight. There's no assumptions here.

Apparently the general public agreed with you. According to Betty Hutton herself, "Dream Girl" played to mostly empty movie theatres at the time of its initial release as word of mouth killed the film. The public wanted the old blonde rambunctious Betty back shouting Murder He Says. But I personally think this is one Betty 's best work and evidence that she could extend her acting range.
