This is what life is like with Type 1 Diabetes. Diabetes never sleeps. Henry is such a trooper and handles it so well. We all work as a team. Thankful for my amazing husband Andy. I couldn't do it without him. Exciting news- we are starting the Omnipod insulin pump in June! I think that'll pair perfectly with his Dexcom. I'll be posting a video soon about it. Thumbs up if you enjoyed this and subscribe so you don't miss another video. Thank you so much for watching!! If you read all of this, type #diabetesneversleeps below You get a gold star.

I know how Henry feels! I was diagnosed with Type 1 at the age of 18 months and will be turning 18 in 2 weeks. Diabetes is always a fight, but it's good family support that keeps you going! So glad I found your channel! *hugs* #diabetesneversleeps

I just want to say that Henry is so strong and smart. I'm in high school and a girl was giving a presentation about Diabetes Type 1, and mentioned that her friend has it. She also mentioned that this friend doesn't seem to care about keeping an eye on her levels or anything. I just couldn't imagine having any health issue and not taking good care of it like what is needed. It's amazing that a 7 year-old can be more responsible than a teen. It just makes me really happy to see that. You are an amazing mother!

Nice to see someone with experience say it is a guessing game. It's tough to track all food, activity, stress, etc. and know the perfect solution.

We (non diabetics) really have no idea what goes into a day for Henry. It really affects the whole family. Henry seems so so kind hearted. Does he ever make comments about how he wished he didn't have it? Or is he always just a trooper. Really liked this video….I can sympathize a lot better now.

We constantly have weird and whacky blood sugars! Benedict will be thirteen in June and at the same time we will be logging nine years of diabetes. Due to incompetence between the medical team and his primary school Benedict was turfed out of the state system and we have been home educating ever since. I know you too have had issues but Henry is really lucky to be in such a supportive learning environment. Your school nurse sounds awesome :-)

You guys are rock stars! I enjoy these videos even though I don't have a family member with type 1. I do have a few kids each year in my classes with type 1 though so I like seeing what their days may be like. And being a PE teacher, I know how those days can cause a ruckus! I was just chatting with a 6th grader that now has PE twice in one day a few days a week and even after 8 weeks, she is still getting used to how it affects her.

Love seeing what your day is like, I have an 8 yr old daughter with type one so it is encouraging seeing how other parents handle it. We have had the issue too if she has a low and we treat then she spikes, so frustrating for sure! I love your organization I'm always looking for more ways to be more organized with this disease. We are currently using the Medtronic pump and had issues last night with pump site changes so I'm looking forward to your reviews of the Omnipod! Would love to see your recipes or ideas of diabetic foods that y'all prefer and that you have noticed doesn't cause him to spike. Great video! Thanks!

you are very good at keeping his blood sugar leveled out. I feel like I still struggle after 3 years to keep my son's in a good range but hopefully that will change once we get the dexcom. I hope you know how blessed you are to have a husband that helps out so much. I do everything check Bs at night and change out pump and help him give insulin. My husband has no desire to learn how to change pump are anything.. I love him to death but i wish I had a lil help with it.

Just a tip for OmniPod.... My son is 6 and he has had OmniPod for several years now so we dont have to do this anymore because he is so used to it but since Henry is not this may help IF needed. My son would dread pump change days. Some days the shot would hurt and others not but he would dread them. One thing that helped us was pump prizes. After pump change he would get a pump prize. We did very cheap prizes like .50 items or maybe dollar tree items. We did this until he got used to it. Anyways, if you find Henry hating pump change day this is just an idea. At least he is used to dexcom changes so that may help.

@dreamflight6000
@dreamflight6000 8 жыл бұрын
+sazzifrazz78 If I worked full time, Andy would have to communicate with the nurse and it'd be tough on him and us. I often think about how hard that must be. I've even met someone who took off work everyday for lunch and snack at school. Her and her husband took turns. Very exhausting and challenging disease.

Hope this isn't a dumb question but why do you have to check his blood so much if he has the dexcom? I thought that is what the dexcom was for. Love your videos and all I am leaning about type 1.

Have you ever mentioned why you do 7 units of insulin at night?
@dreamflight6000
@dreamflight6000 8 жыл бұрын
+Datcherville Good question! Lantus is a long acting insulin so you get that once a day at the same time. It crystallizes and slowly absorbs throughout the day. It keeps blood sugar more steady. I can't think of a better word at the moment. When he goes to a pump, he'll use short acting insulin only. So the same insulin we use for food. The pump will give a tiny bit of insulin every few minutes to replace lantus.
