I am an older (50.....) player of Skyrim - came to it because of lockdown over here in the UK and the Spiffing Brit breaking the game in amusing ways. As I played the game I came to appreciate the background lore (I love good world-building). Your videos are very informative and your enthusiasm for the Elder Scrolls universe always shows in your work. I have taken inspiration from you chaps to make several builds now and had a lot of fun with the game. Thanks and have a merry christmas.

Also use Speech, sneak, 1-handed, alchemy, and alteration. Wear some kinda gear that let's you have beaks dangling on you amd scrolls with pouches and bandoliers. Focus on attaining knowledge for roleplay. Especially when concerning deadra. In combat you can summon Kynereeve and other dremora, then buff up with alteration and slash away. Ah, Xivilai... a lesson that many a naive child learned when playing Oblivion on PC back in the day. Naively used the cheat console to raise the player level without thinking to raise all the attributes. Suddenly new enemies are spawning, and a ten foot tall grey Daedra hops out of the nearby portal, smacks you to the ground in one hit from his mace, and then proceeds to kill you with melee and magic in the span of a few seconds. Reload a save but foolishly don’t set the player level back, transform your warrior character into a stealth character by snarking around all the enemies, shit your pants every time a Xivilai shows up. Oblivion on PC was fun as a kid.

From what I remember didn't each lord have a kitchen run by 'daedra' that would compete to have the best meals, but the kitchens/chefs could invade each other? I thought it was pretty cool. I felt the other clans were rather underused in ES Oblivion. The one Xivilai we all remember is literally the one that is a random event that can happen at any lvl so it can either be easy or you're larfin at this big demon fuck trying to beat you to death with an iron great hammer. I honestly hope they do start involving more daedra in a more detailed way and they all are supposed to have personalities it's just we haven't really given them much. Maybe that could be worked on in the next one. Either way I can't wait to mod it to hell like all the rest.

A good lore explanation to get a Dremora to to honour his binding to the summons, would be to only summon them for a feat worthy of bragging rights on their return to Oblivion... For instance; "(Dremora) I was summoned to Mundus to slay a hundred mortals!" Rather than; _"(Dremora) I was spam summoned to Mundus by a pathetic mortal to lvl his Conjuration skill!"_

I came up with a new Skyrim build I call the prototype Xivkyn: Basically use a mod or role play as a dremora that when molag bal was experimenting with trying to combine the dremora and Xivilai, you were what was originally made. You are xivkyn in the sense that you are a dremora that can transform into a xivilai (which is your vampire lord form), this technically both. It works even better as vampires and especially vampire lords are directly of molag bal's creation as well as the vampire lord form looks very similar to xivilai and the clothe they wear

While i love more depth and detail, Molag Bal being the moustache twirling bad guy of elder scrolls isnt a bad thing in my opinion, we have prince on prince, as well as aedra, unaligned powerful daedric creatures full of complexity, and detail, sometimes its nice to have just a bad guy. You know? And of all of the princes, Molag Bal has always felt like that to me. I mean, his whole stint with lamia, his deals with harkun, his previous quests usually being about bringing good people low. Corruption, scheming, and just plain evil literally has been his thing in all appearances consistently, and I personally feel that makes him interesting, because unlike other princes, sometimes his schemes or actions serve literally no purpose beyond plain malice, and thats part of the point of Molag Bal, and why hes so despised even amongst his own kind, to where hes actively opposed, and quite frankly, has to be, because real evil, real malice is self serving and unexplainable more often than not. Not all evil needs a justification, and with all the justifying lately with everything im a little burnt out from overthinking things, and can genuinely appreciate the bad guy thats there to be, the bad guy. I dont need to question or even think about why i oppose him, the evidence is all around where he is, its nice, once in a while.

I thought "Mora" means "wood" in Elven, not Daedric. Could just be that the syllables for "Mora" appear in both languages without meaning the same thing.

I kind of wonder if the twilights, scamps, and other "non-sentient" deadra are all more like vessels and a hive-mind controlled by powerful lesser deadra like the dremora

Which is typically stronger lore wise? Xivilai or Xivkyn? The Xivilai look down on the Dremora but does anyone know how the Xivilai view the Xivikyn and vice versa?

14:12 Duke doesn’t necessarily mean that you own Land, the word Duke comes from latin Dux/Greek Doux which means a high level military officer and Count comes from Comite which means a person within an Assembly, like a Committee

That's the ancient definition however even the byzantines called their Dukes doux which kinda contradicts that so they're definitely correct on saying that a Duke is a person who holds a duchy

@@ciaranmck4469 Doux in the Byzantine empire was used for Admirals (Megadoukas) and also a Honorary title for Family members of the Emperor, it rarely conferred an estate. People who actually “owned” land and can be compared to the Dukes of Western Europe where Strategoi (Military Commanders of a Themata) and Katepans (Military Commanders of a Province not connected to Greece or Asia Minor) I was making the case that maybe when using Duke they are using the Antiquated meaning of Duke as a Military title as opposed to the Modern notion of Duke being that of a Landed Aristocrat, because Dremora are such Martial creatures and it doesn’t seem right that they would be some sedentary beings taking care of an estate like a Western European aristocrat.

@@sebastianprimomija8375 is that why nikephoros III was made doux of Thessalonica which was a duchy in the middle 11th century in the byzantine empire It seems past the 9th century doux and thus Duke took a new definition from its ancient definition Obviously your point still stands but still it's a very *old* saying and they're probably right in the definition they use

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't true daedra weapons and armor usually actually Daedra themselves, just forced into the form of a weapon or armor? That is why you can summon such things with conjuration. My take has been that the weapons and armor of dremora are actually such daedra, that is why they are weaker than Daedric weapons made through smithing with obsidian. And why the armor of demora cannot usually be removed, because they are a lesser daedra bonded to the body of the daedra, or maybe even their own form altered.

And for that matter, why didn't Dagon intervene on his own when he wouldn't even have needed the invitation to do so?

Ladies, Gentlemen, Scholars... I always thought of the word "Chevalier" when reading "Xivilai", not in terms of being a horseman, but their names and relationship with other Dremora. Google Chevalier, just a suggestion, and give it a quick read. This just might answer a question or two.

The accident freeing of a dremora by receiving a free gift makes sense as a reason why you need to summon and unbound dremora to get a sigil stone in the conjuration ritual spell.
