Here's is what the drummer (Mario Duplantier) had to say about this performance. "I use all the force in my knees and thighs to generate the energy required to execute this section. The first minute of demanding thirty-second notes is hard on my body, and the following minute is when my legs start to tingle. From that point on it’s so intense that my mind starts to drift a little. With this intensity at a maximum level, sometimes the trance transports me beyond the pain. It even feels like my body is floating above the drum kit. Naturally, when the song is over and I come out of the trance, there are consequences sometimes. When we extend the part for almost 10 minutes, I’ve actually felt like I was going deaf, and even had sensations of numbness in my pelvis and legs for a few seconds after the song is over."

It's kinda curious since he has said plenty of times that he practices for an hour straight of double bass ranging with a BPM from 140 to 200 or something like that.

I suggest listening to Born in Winter. It's a shame that we'll probably never get a live performance of the song because Joe said that playing the guitar & singing the lyrics at the same time is too hard for him. One of my favourite Gojira songs, definitely not one of the heavy ones, but still love it.

Mario Duplantier's double bass work is incredible, but I feel that someone like Dan Presland of Ne Obliviscaris has him beaten in that category. On songs like Devour Me Colossus, Forget Not, or Painters of the Tempest he goes for several minutes like Duplantier, but he goes a bit faster. Ne Obliviscaris isn't quite as heavy as Gojira, but they have a lot more melodic sections and they are very skilled at blending genres, especially with the mix of clean and distorted vocals. I recommend watching the live version of "Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise." The audio isn't as clear as a studio recording, but seeing it live is incredible. Great reaction dude, keep em coming!
