The message to me of this is, "How to get to a win-win course when confronted." A few people has the innate ability to resolve confrontations like this, but with your articulation, everyone can gain the skill. Thanks, Dr. Grace.

What about narcissistic people who dump their rage and anger, then they turn their back and leave, expecting to be their way or highway? So - There is no talk, communication at all - it is only one single order and command and label and projection onto the target. Where there is shame culture message - aggressive person is belittling the target. Or.. where the other person is yelling and screaming - and you cannot speak out to this unreasonable person due to their incessant rage? You listen to advice to remain calm - and this ends up as them thinking they are superior, while they perceive people who are silent are actually weak and subordinates to them. Again - there is only one channel of communication: dumping accusations and labels. I see it like this: if there is confrontational ambience and atmosphere of fear all the time - it is a red flag that the aggressive person is mentally ill. That is the only problem. You cannot build relationship with person who is sick and unable to live with people. They live in a fantasy world of superiority complex and narcissism, entitlement, and there is no possibility of interdependence, cooperation neither vulnerability nor contribution to solving the problem, it is only their desire to dominate and to be their way. I believe this is the single cause why communism failed and why democracy and capitalism works - since there is no fertile ground for a mentally ill person to be tyrannical to the masses. I also see it like this: what are our values - do we need this job where there is mentally ill person? Do I need to be in toxic job because I want to impress neighbors with my home, car or clothes or travel trips?

Thank you, Dr. Grace. It's very relevant to my situation. How to handle conflicts in the workplace? I have a hard time handling such a situation. I always consider my side but not the other side's point of view. I think it's easier said than done. Tough conversations have high emotions, that's the problem. It clouds my mind and you're right. I was there, in the "zone of no return". Sometimes, I regret saying those words. I reflect and think," how could I have done better?" or "Did I say the right words?"

Love it, very thoughtful. I had a confrontation at work, there was an argument with my supervisor who was getting more and more hostile during the conversation while I was able to stay calm. Eventually, I was personally insulted. But because I was not in the position to change it, since she was my supervisor, I left that job. What would you recommend to do in this case? My thought was that staying in that job will not bring me anything good moving forward, as she is responsible for my performance review. Felt sad as I liked rhe company I was working for in general.

As we move into a more global platform we non-whites and women have to be ready for the backlash and push back. I have not seen anyone deal with preparing people for this type of pushback when you’re the only minority in the group.

huh? ever been to UCSD campus during classes? I love the passion and message. however, things have changed a lot over the last 10ish years. I feel like a news channel posted that the population is approaching even numbers now with a couple exceptions.

In a professional setting race, gender, and appearance should not influence the conversation unless it is a sensitive subject to one of those areas but again it should be a discussion and not an argument.
