Gingium your "5th" link pan hard bar is supposed to be on back not under drive shaft... and what you should do is get another stick of that 2x6 and go across your frame rails for your 4- link frame mounts to support them cut a notch for drive shaft that a piece of strap and go under added in 2x6 so it will give strength to rear half and better support to 4-link frame mounts and you'll have a drive line hoop for safety all in one shot also cut the cross brace round stock that is already there get another round stock piece and weld them across your C-notch above your axle....

There are quite a few 4 link setups that run the track bar under the driveshaft. A 51 Chevy pickup with a custom frame I’m working on is setup that way. It can be put however as long as it has sufficient clearance. I work at a place called Toxic Designs and see old vehicles with custom frames on the regular. Almost all have had the track bar run underneath.

Your right, panhard bar goes behind the diff, but a track bar goes under the driveshaft like this setup, it has alot less lateral movement as the suspension travels as compared to a panhard bar

I have a weird but really cool idea Caleb , I genuinely think the rear set up looks so freaking good that once all done clean it up maybe even paint it a colorful color and get anothet bed and cut out the bed floor and rivet in some clear corrugated clear plastic so you can see the beautiful setup underneath. I personally think that would look so unique and sick and you can always reinforce the bed since you got a welder

He could fab up some mounts and make a coilover conversation for the rear and cut out the bed floor and buy a bed cover so you can do some easy rear end work and cage in the rear and do a fuel cell swap and lighten up the rear end and you can have the frame notch higher and then you can get the rear end low as you want
@TheUniversalVince
@TheUniversalVince 5 жыл бұрын
In pretty much every scenario you don't want to make the rear end of a truck lighter, all the weight of a truck is in the engine bay and cab. The lighter the rear end is the less grip/traction you'll have.

When I decided to add a triangulated four link to my 1976 F100, I did so to solve a sever traction problem that manifested after installing my stroked 421 Windsor engine. I went to the Art Morrison website and went to his technical page to learn about the dynamics of a four link system. With a wealth of information to guide me, I designed the entire system on my computer then sent the files out to a laser cutting shop and received the parts six days later. After boxing the chassis, installing all the new mounts and link parts, adding spring perches, Afco springs, new drag shocks and stabilizer bar, I fired up the truck and did several launches on the street. I knew all systems were go, when my friend witnessed the front suspension lift while the rear of the truck squatted perfectly with the front tires off the ground. I call that a successful custom four link..

Gingium, what is your opinion on 3 link suspensions? 2 lower links used from this kit. But on top A-form link. (like miata's wishbone) Those two opening ends would be attached to the frame rails on each side, and that center part going to the center of an axle. So it will have up-and-down movement(like a wishbone). It won't have no side-to-side movement like trackbar does, or this diagonal (like a wishbone, because it's literally a solid triangle with two ends bolted to the frame.) and the center hyme has also side to side rotation, so it will let axle tilt if needed. Two lower links attached to the bottom. This wishbone(which should be better called trailing arm) attached to the top. So this axle won't flex on hard accelerations, or clutch kicks like leafs do. Btw, seen on drag aplications. So here you have it: *up and down moving axle* *tilting axle* *no side to side movement* *no leafspring-like flex* *wayyy simpler* What do you think?
@_Gingium_
@_Gingium_ 5 жыл бұрын
I wanted to do that system, but the pumpkin on this axle is NOT in the center of the axle. That makes it much more complicated to make and I didn't want to deal with that.

@hotdognr12323
@hotdognr12323 5 жыл бұрын
This system is commonly found on some vintage Alfa Romeos. It's generally a better and much simpler system than a 4- link. Another option is to use a torque arm or torque tube in the center, with a proper panhard bar. many Opels used this in the 60's and 70's, its one of the best handling setups for a live axle you can get. He should at the very least place the panhard bar behind the axle and parallel to it, where it will actually limit side to side movement instead of just binding up the suspension.

personally id have gone for a triangulated 4 link as the space was available also the panhard bar is on whats normally known as the wrong side of the diff as often the run from above the diff but as long as it doesn't foul there should be no issue the articulation in the axle from the small clip of you rocking it i hope that wasn't all the articulation available because if it was you will end up breaking bars and the such under roll if you think about the maximum travel the damper can have then you will want at least that much in articulation available, further more when it comes to the dampers please mount them as wide as you can on the bottom and maybe with a slight angle inwards towards the top so that they can allow the articulation to occur better also id suggest a damper which has a spherical bearing both top and bottom to allow the motion to occur with less resistance,try to get the best motion ratio (ratio of damper to wheel movement) you can ie don't do a morgan 3 wheeler and have a ratio of 0.2/1 go for a ratio of like 0.8 to 1 if you can you may only get like 0.5 but that is better than nothing
