The Little Platoon kind of hit it on the head as to why The Mandalorian is as popular as it is... it's the old Clint Eastwood cowboy Man with No Name movies, but in space and in episodic form. And personally, I've always liked that kind of movie and, to a lesser extent, television series (TV series on similar rails tend to start getting typical and same-old, same-old, or worse they go off on weird or "Modern" tangents). I was able to watch The Mandalorian Season 1... haven't seen Season 2 and won't be able to see the third, so I can't comment on those. But I enjoyed Season 1 for what it was: a Man with No Name series who had a mission to keep a special kid safe despite his normal tendencies, trying to stay one step ahead of a vastly superior force using his wits and skills... and in this case, his invincible armor. I'm a little sad to hear that Disney is, unsurprisingly, ruining it.

The logical thing to do would have been to have season 3 focus on Mando and Grogu's stories simultaneously while they both go about different lives. Basically do what you did in Book of Boba Fett and spend half the episode following Mando on his quest to Mandalore and then the other half following Luke and Grogu around as they go through Jedi training. You accomplish all the things you need to from a marketing standpoint with Grogu and a natural story and character progression with everything else. Plus who doesn't want to see Luke as a more regular character in the show? This reeks of corporate Disney coming down and demanding Favreau and Filoni put Grogu back with Mando to sell merch. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two seasons and thought the writing was mostly great but this first episode of season 3 was concerning to say the least.

There are reports that Episode 5 of The Book of Boba Fett was the original script meant for the first episode of Mandalorian Season 3, but because of shortcomings with The Book of Boba Fett scripts, they pigeonholed this Mandalorian episode into TBOBF. That's why this first episode was underwhelming, and why there was nearly an identical scene of Din Djarin having the same conversation with the armorer as he did in TBOBF Episode 5. Go back and think about that episode. It would have made a great Mandalorian Season 3 debut. Instead we got this.

*This show genuinely confuses me* Andor spent 3 episodes building up to a grand spectacle of “The Eye” and stealing a piece of cargo (that had relevance to the plot) while flying through thousands of asteroids - while being followed by TIE fighters.. *That must’ve been EXTREMELY costly in CGI* Yet Mando just opens with all these expensive, CGI battles and scenes that add nothing to the plot.. they’re just throwing money away - when it could be used in service of story.

Why is that water good enough for the kid but Mando has to find other water? Thiey did something I hate too. Resetting everything to do it all over again. I'm going to call it now. This entire season is going to effectively be a vehicle for Disney trying to push toys. The rather overt focusing on the kid is bad enough but they went out of their way to insert Babu's species into this despite they've only ever appeared in TROS before this and also put them into a setting that just doesn't make sense. They could have inserted almost any species and/or characters for the role, but they specifically chose to insert those things and one can be fairly sure that it's in an effort to push TROS toys just repackaged that didn't and probably won't sell. The entire first episode for this just doesn't come off as a hook so much as just a bunch of excuses for inserting things that didn't need/shouldn't have been in there.

Thanks to The Mandalorian, they made the Fetts not Canon Mandos), the entire awesome Mando lore is de-canonized and Mando culture and lore is extremely shallow compared to the old republic Mandos. They don't even use the Mando Language that has an entire fan clan who can speak it. Vode An is not even referenced once. ""Here's why you can't exterminate us, aruetii. We're not huddled in one place-we span the galaxy. We need no lords or leaders-so you can't destroy our command. We can live without technology-so we can fight with our bare hands. We have no species or bloodline-so we can rebuild our ranks with others who want to join us. We're more than just a people or an army, aruetii. We're a culture. We're an idea. And you can't kill ideas-but we certainly can kill you." - Mandalore the Destroyer. Mandalorians are Meritocrats to a fault, they don't care about your race, gender, sex, none of that BS, they expect you to be the best warrior you can be, and be loyal to your clan. Beyond that each clan has it's own culture, values and symbols. The Fetts were some of the toughest around just before Clone Wars which is why Dooku had the Clones be based on Jango, and he trained some of them himself. Now it's "This is the Way." Since The Mandalorian became the Mandalorian thing, all this cool old stuff is forgotten about, and it's a shame. I blame Filoni for it, and to a lesser extent, George Lucas, and don't get me wrong, I really respect George but sometimes disagree with him, mostly on some Expanded Universe opinions. I got a like-dislike thing with Filoni though. I like some things he does, but I dislike how he tramples on good lore just to kiddify something or protect Ahsoka, yet he's treated as some golden saviour of Star Wars. He's just better than the others, but not by a high bar. The Clone Wars was good and even great in some plotlines especially, but eh... What I also don't understand is; where the F did all the Nightwatch Mandos come from!? Didn't they all perish in season 1 off camera? If they didn't they still left their armor behind, including helmets. I say they have ALL broken the code to not show the face then! And should not be welcomed back anyway. Regardless if you watch just Mando or include Book of Boba Fett it was just Visla & the Armorer & Din left, until they kicked Din out. Now we have a whole platoon of Mandos in this Nightwatch cult again, with a foundling, too. WTF? Maybe that is why they all suck at fighting, they must've picked up random people as they went & asked them if they wanna wear a cool helmet for the rest of your days that you never ever take off. The Mandalorians are supposed to give Jedi a hard time in a fight. I think we all can now agree that they are not exactly impressive in the Nightwatch. Maybe that is why they refuse to remove the helmets, they are too embarrassed to show who they are because all other Mandos would laugh at their incompetence as fighters. Why is the show even hinting at all this even if that is not at all the intent? Jon & Dave can work miracles when they truly put effort to it, but both have a lot of crap in their baggage as well & this whole first episode was filled to the brink with it. If we are supposed to be in awe of all Mandalorians don't make them into incompetent morons at what they are meant to do best, while we common folk watching our screens can better tell what to do in their place. If they keep this up this show is gonna die & be forgotten like the rest of Disney SW.

What was the giant crocodiles hide made of, cortosis? There's no way in the world that blasters shouldn't have had any effect on it. In fact with how useful blasters are in nu canon they might as well be using projectile firearms for all the good their guns do. In EU the whole reason only primitive people's used slugthrowers was because they hadn't reached the level of technology that the rest of the galaxy had which made a huge difference because plastoid( storm and clonetrooper armor) could effectively stop most man portable rounds, only very fast and dense rounds could penetrate what was fairly basic armor, not to mention the heavier armor that could be made, whereas blasters could effectively and reliably deliver enough trauma to, at a minimum, render a basically armored trooper combat ineffective.

Okay season 2 was NOT shit at all, it had some of the best episodes of Star Wars I've ever seen. The krayt dragon episode was one of the best pieces of star wars content ever made, Bill Burr came outta nowhere like an RKO to nail it as Mayfeld, giving that character a better arc in ONE episode than most characters have in a season, and Luke returning to open up a can of whoop ass on the dark troopers made me cry That being said yeah S3 will probably ruin it all

The quality of scripts, acting and production of Andor, sadly craps all over this. There are no stakes.

When I saw the creature in the first few minutes, it reminded me of a mosasaurus mixed in with a snapping turtle. Also, like everyone else, there, I was expecting them to humiliate Cara Dune as well. But they gave it a pass and as for the door remaining open for a possible return from Gina is very unlikely right now. But if Kathleen Kennedy is to be leaving soon, then that could possibly signal that Jon Favreau might ask Gina to come back as Cara Dune since they haven’t started filming Rangers of the New Republic yet.

I think it was a decent episode, yes it was a bit slow but Andor started off slow and then it went from 0 to 100 and was gripping as hell so they are prob just trying to get people settled back into the universe of the mando

I'd argue it was pretty awful. The only scene that somewhat mattered to the plot was the scene with bo katan, and all she did was point Mando off in the right direction to get to wherever he needs to go to redeem himself so he can rejoin his clan in a plotline where there are absolutely no stakes

@@TheLoos3Goos33 They’re setting up the new state of things. Navarro isn’t a one horse backwater planet anymore. The Watch have reassembled and/or grown since we last saw them. Bo Karan is a broken woman who isn’t ready to try to do the one thing that can redeem her. The goofy looking pirates have a ship that is much better than the one Bo Karan lost, and we’ll have to revisit that. Sadly, Grogu wasn’t allowed to eat the stupid things from ROTS.

Mandalorian still hasn't progressed anywhere over two and half seasons, 20 episodes. Andor told its story and gave us awesome characters in 12 episodes.

@@donkeysaurusrex7881 1) We saw that in season 2 2) They are supposed to be all dead according to Book of Boba Fett, where did they spawn from? 3) Bo-Katan is obsessed with Darksaber and cares only about herself, we know that already. 4) Pirates appear in almost every episode and die.

Also that 5 min and 30 second long crocodile sequence added NOTHING to the plot. It must have been crazy expensive too.

You guys sum up perfectly the "logic" in the series. Not gonna say anything new here but at the end of the day SW was never about "logic". Aside from some darker sub stories in books/games/comics (mostly the Dark Side themed ones) it's pure & fun pulp sci-fi. And that's what Mando did at the time when SW was at its worst after the abysmal trilogy - it gave that pulpy "advanture stories" feeling. The series can also be credited for giving some mistreated characters respect as opposed to what the "Kennedy bunch" does...

Who they gave respect? BOBF kept disrespecting Boba and Favreau is credited as a writer

People aren't used to decent storytelling and writing anymore. They celebrate stuff like this. Writing is one of my passion, I have pals celebrating this and telling me how stupid I am for not liking it; how much of a bore I am; how I don't get it; etc etc etc and everytime I try to give an objective critique to them, so they understand my point of view, writing/storytelling-wise, they lose it. "I'm ruining their fun" or whatever, "watching it wrong", etc. Only one who regretted it deeply is a pal who joined my tabletop sessions and was shocked by the difference in storytelling quality. Just with a god damn tabletop game. Brought him new perspectives I guess. Sorry, had to get it out of my system.
