Its no secret that Rachel Zegler hasn't exactly endeared herself to the fans, so what do you do if you're a major studio with hundreds of millions of dollars invested in her movie? You stage a puff piece "interview" with another Disney princess and try to shift the blame away from her.

The funniest part is that none of that stuff she said was actually in the movie. The dwarves beat the villain. The Prince didn't arrive until after she "died". Notice how when Zegler mentions Snow White, she is only mentioning the impersonal statistics of what the movie achieved. She makes no correction on her previous statements of the story being obsolete. She does not say the movie was good or bad. She said the movie was successful. That success is the only important factor because it is the foundation she now stands on. In short, she believes profit and success are more important than quality.
@Mereologist
@Mereologist 7 ай бұрын
"I tried to see what others did and now I understand how inspiring the movie is," is exactly what she didn't say. She has not been humbled. Her version is more, "The movie won awards and I want to win awards so I'm glad I'm in the remake." She wants to be worshipped.
@sianais
@sianais 7 ай бұрын
She also uses the word "cartoon" to describe it still. Most people when speaking about an animated film they adore say animated, traditionally animated, 2D, or just don't specify as a way of distancing it from a "cartoon" like Sponge Bob. She used the word before to talk down to the film and the medium as a whole. She has no respect for this film and even while pretending she can't even force herself to just call it a film. I have never heard anyone call a Disney animated movie a cartoon as a compliment, hell, people don't even call them cartoons. "Lion King is a cartoon I watched as a child," doesn't even sound like normal phrase. So its weird how it seems a part of her mind thinks of that flagship film as some old cartoon while her movie is the real "film."

One thing that never made sense to me from Ziegler’s perspective, how was the 37 version behind women’s role in power? The evil queen was a woman, quite clearly in charge, giving orders to the hunter (a man), and no hint of a king anywhere. Just because a woman was the bad guy doesn’t invalidate that she was the head honcho.

Well, realistically, In the original story the prince actually only shows up for the last 5 minutes or so. He wasn't in love with her, he was trying to find her because she was supposedly dead. It wasn't even a kiss that awakens her, they stumbled while carrying the glass casket and it dislodged the apple from her throat. It's really not a love story to begin with and the prince has such a small part in it. That said, you support the project, the team and especially those in your own profession, and show some gratitude to the people that provided you the opportunity in the first place. Just do the job you're paid (overpaid) to do. I don't hire a plumber to hear his thoughts on world politics. I don't care about what he thinks. I care about how well he does the job he's overcharging me to do.

I just heard that Disney has removed the seven creatures and replaced them with CGI. What she doesn't understand, is that her scenes could all be cut and replaced with CGI...which would improve the film a great deal. I have trouble believing Zegler can actually act--she's too full of herself.

Rachel then: ( speech of women empowerment without men ) Rachel now: ( doing everything a man from Disney is telling her to do, without questions, complaints and with the tail between her legs ). The hypocrisy, backboneless and humiliation is strong here. I must concede that Disney from today, despite its flaws, is still able to awe the public: the major tweak of the new Snow White isn't having diverse and not vertically challenged people playing dwarves, but instead having no princess and two witches. Now I'm 100% sold about this movie, anxiously waiting to see what is coming next.

Disney would do well to cancel all ongoing projects, fire the whole board of directors, all executives, all producers and directors, all script writers and editors, the whole HR department, then beg people who walked away ten or twenty years ago to come back to form a core company. Even if Zegler actually did apologize for disparaging the old classic, it would not cause people to go watch that new train wreck. They would literally generate more views if they just took the old Classic, do some digital restoration on it, perhaps re-record the soundtrack, some improved special effects, and show it in theaters.

If Hollywood put half the effort into the narrative creation in their films that they put into their PR narrative creation, then they'd only have to put a fraction of the effort into the PR.

When Rachel Zegler said, "we absolutely wrote a Snow White that is not going to be saved by a prince," is she suggesting that she was involved in the writing of the script? Do actors normally have such control of the movie scripts for which they're hired to perform?
@Account.for.Comment
@Account.for.Comment 7 ай бұрын
It depends but for many great films and actors yes, it is not uncommon. It is a feature not a bug. Tom Cruise and Will Smith had personal writers, who are part of their contract to make changes to the scripts. Their jobs are to write the characters to show off their actors' skills, and a large part of their successes. Art films and comedy films especially, need the actors involvement. That's where improvisation in Scorsese films came from. Acting is a skill and need collaboration, can't be treated like an assembly line workers doing as their manager told. Regardless, of what you think of Ziegler, she's being involved in crafting the role made sense if she was hired on as a lead. It is not a role I'd care to see, but that's not a problem.

The most shocking thing was they actually made this movie with magical people instead of the seven dwarfs, and no one there had any idea that people would have such a bad reaction to it. The people in Hollywood actually live in a parallel universe, they’re completely detached from the rest of the world.

And it is such a easy layup, you have nostalgia at your side, the scripts are already done... you just have to adapt to live-action and resell the same stories over and over. And Disney is screwing things up, they made a lot of money on nostalgia alone, but if the movies were actually good, they could spam sequels, like Aladdin 2 featuring the live-action cast and so on. Snow White will be a huge flop that will maybe stop these live-action adaptaitons altogether
@WesleyNiman
@WesleyNiman 6 ай бұрын
@RRRRRRRRR33 I doubt they will stop altogether.. but hopefully, their continued failure puts a damper on their future development. You're right as well.. they would have such an easy lay-up if they just copy and pasted the animated movies over to live-action. Instead, they try to recreate the stories to match their own ideals. Then it's no longer the original story that actually resognated with people.. these "filmmakers" genuinely do not understand what made the originals so great because they don't have the same fundamental morals that the movies are predicated on. As a matter of fact.. these postmodernists would rather teach you to have little, to no morals at all! That good and evil don't even exist! This is, unfortunately, what lies at the root of Disney's failure. That is also why they will more than likely never be as successful as they once were again. Daily Wire, here we come...

The original fable is kinda nasty, the dwarfs raped snow white, she had a sister named "rose red" if I'm not mistaken, etc... well, "original" with quotations, these folklore are all over the place. From my perspective, the sanitized Disney version tells a story about compassion (the dwarfs didn't really need to help, but they helped anyway), the evil queen was envious, then snow white is saved by her true love (because magic)... it's a basic "love" story if you will, honestly not harmful at all. I don't remember if the prince "stalked" her or not tbh, if that's the case, well... it's weird indeed

Probably because Gal Gadot didn't trash talk the original movie. There are clips of her talking about how she watched it with the children she babysat and how much everyone loved it.
