Speaking of people in princess dresses, the people who work as character greetings in Disneyland deserves to be paid WAY more than they're getting now. They have in depth understanding of their characters, they endure heat in their makeup and costumes, and always give amazing interactions with children and families. They really bring the characters to life!

That's the first thing I thought about when this entitled child started talking about how much money she "deserves"... what about the poor people in Disney parks who are in a Snow White costume all day under the sun or, worse, one of those full suite costumes like Daisy Duck or Goofy? Shouldn't they deserve much more than her?

You could totally make a Snow White movie that's relevant for today: The wicked witch has won. In the past she looked into the vanity mirror and wanted the power, adoration and wealth by being the prettiest, the most beautiful, the most desired. Flash forward to today, with Instagram, OF, etc., and the witch's poison is unknowingly flowing through the veins of western society. Snow White goes on a hero's journey to overcome the witch's poison in herself and in society, becoming the fairest of them all by overcoming vanity for true beauty, humility and an open heart for all. Done right, with sincerity, raw honestly and depth, it could be a fantastic movie that translates themes from the original into today. It would be much more "impactful" on society than the current fare of girl boss movies with "the message."

I also found it amusing when Disney and their fans said Eric was basically a creeper and trying to take advantage of Ariel... when in fact in the original Ariel was the one creeping on Eric the entire movie and signed a contract that resulted in her forcing Eric to kiss her in 3 days lol. Now neither point is really worth bringing up, when I watched the Little Mermaid as a kid, the last thing my parents or I (or my sibllings/friends, etc.) thought was, "Eric is taking advantage of Ariel!" But now we have PC/SJWs screaming: "Well times are changing!" And that's correct, society is getting stupider.

I went to a funeral yesterday... Of a ninety two year old woman that I did not know personally, the huge church was packed... The woman never held a position of power yet she wielded power all throughout that church.... She's helped set up the Meals on Wheels in Tampa, Fed hundreds every Wednesday night for decades, over saw the design and reconstruction of the church in the 80's, helped determine who would be the paster..., her offspring were 3 girls... At the time of her death, she had 17 great-grandchildren .all in attendance. Every deacon and pastor at that church would turn to her for her guidance and leadership... Soft female power at its best. .. She never held a title....her name was Dot...these women are so confused about a woman's "power"...

I often think that shrewd and ambitious women purposely align with a certain type of man…a guy who wants to be the boss but lacks the intellect to do so. So she sort of pulls the strings from behind while he takes the hits if anything goes wrong. All she gives up are the accolades when things work out, but she’s happy to do that as long as she is really in charge. A lot of the so-called “patriarchy” are really pawns of a more agile woman working behind the scenes.

Just to show you how stupid that that Disney people are if they knew Brothers Grim as well as they should they would know that there is a Snow White and there's also a rose red. And the rose red is not white-skinned rose red has a darker shade to her skin. They could have had her in that way instead of drawing attention to by using Snow White they could be calling it rose rose red and but no they can't do that because then when you say red they're going to say oh they're making her out to be an Indian and she's not an Indian. And speaking of Indian by the way if you've ever heard anyone in your history class lie to you and tell you that the reason we the reason it's wrong to call Indians here Indians because because when Christopher Columbus was trying to find India he thought they were Indians here that's why he called them Indians that's untrue. He wasn't looking for India and besides which at that time it wasn't called India it was called Hindustan he would have called them Hindus that was the case he wasn't looking for India he was actually looking for the Philippines was what he was looking for that's why he went to the Vatican to go look he was looking at the apocryphal writings because there were in one of the books of the Apocrypha it spoke about it spoke about a whole bunch of gold being shipped away from Solomon to get it away from the temple and the islands that they spoke of was the area that that he was telling Isabel that he knew of an area that would have immense wealth waiting for them to go get it and that was at the Philippines was what he thought he was coming towards that's what he was looking for he was not looking for India so anyone who believes that many history teacher teaching that I would have laughed his ass out of out of the door when I first heard that that no that that whole thing I know my history teacher in high school would never have made that comment and he he he would have laughed if someone had dared to say something to him about that because he would have been the first to say well wait a minute they didn't call those people over there Indians back then and besides which you know know that that doesn't follow through at all because he wasn't in America when when he met the people who he met it wasn't Americans it was it was people but they weren't they weren't in the Americas and for people to hear that then they go oh well I thought I thought he came I thought he discovered America. No he didn't other people did.

I still maintain that "Mirror Mirror" is one of the better Snow White stories and probably the most "progressive" in terms of social commentary. The Prince bests her in combat, then she learns from the dwarves and bests him with their help. Her innocence gives way to her determination to help the townspeople of the village, her insecurity and sadness of her father's disappearance and take over of her kingdom causes her to rebel. And so on.

16:18 Totally. My wife is an actor and gets cast in small things maybe once or twice a month. Unless she just happens to get cast in a big film, she's unlikely to ever see millions of dollars during her entire career. It's a very competitive industry and when a media company decides they can fake it with AI, it puts most of the small actors out of business. Fortunately she's not SAG so she can still get gigs in commercials and photo ads, etc.

Since I’ve been sick at home with Covid for the past two weeks, I’ve found myself sucked into this story (normally Hollywood antics don’t get my attention). Anyway, it got me to thinking about celebrities melting down, and how many are so young when they do (Rachel Zegler is only in her early 20s). So here’s the thing: Neuroscientists have noted that our brains don’t actually finish wiring until we are closer to 30 (some a little sooner, some, like me, a little later). This helps explain why we make some of our foolish, impulsive decisions in our 20s. I know I made some poor decisions at that age. So, if my thesis is correct, what we have here is a young, inexperienced and unfinished brain given a worldwide platform to be foolish. And sadly, she’s going to have to carry this foolishness like a ball and chain for the rest of her life. I don’t feel angry with her. Mostly I just feel sad.

One of my favourite quotes on the quiet power of women is from Dracula. Mina was so extraordinary in her kindness and compassion that even the lunatic who went mad from his fear of dying was willing to give his life to save her. At the end of the book, it says, "Someday, your son will know what a brave and gallant woman his mother is. He already knows her sweetness and loving care; later he will understand how some men so loved her that they did dare their souls for her sake," Men who barely knew her were willing not only to die for her, but to give their souls for hers because of her compassion and gentle nature.

Yes it had a great morality that is now rejected. The dwarves were objectively super rich throwing anything less then a perfect gem away but their place was dusty and uncared for because there was a lack of love which not just because she was a woman but her character Snow White brought. It's not to say all women are like that and have to be like that the story is that she was like that and that everyone thought it was great. It's like when a "cat Dad" builds his cat a little cat house. It's what he could do to show he cared and ppl love it. You can't eat jewels in our modern world you can pay for food but a home cooked meal with love surpasses any fine dining I have experienced at least.

All hands remain up. "What if it's only paying $25,000 to star in a movie?" Still up. (That was a yearly salary back then.) "Who'd be willing to star in a movie for $1000?" Still all hands up. In an alternate reality, Disney hired Anya Taylor-Joy to play Snow White because she looks like a Disney princess and she is whiter than snow. I think Anya is too old for the role. In the original fairy tale Snow White is like 7 when the magic mirror tells the queen she has been surpassed in beauty, and in the Disney animated feature she looks like she's maybe 14 or 15. Understandable for them to want to age her up, but Anya is pushing 30. Having said that, Zegler ain't it either if for no other reason than she is simply not white.
@Hikaeme-od3zq
@Hikaeme-od3zq Жыл бұрын
@tylerjhunter What? Emma Watson was pushing towards her 30 too when she played Belle in The Beauty and the Beast, and Belle is supposed to be something like 16 or 15, so Anya can absolutely play Snow White, she doesn't even look like she's pushing 30.
@tylerjhunter
@tylerjhunter Жыл бұрын
@@Hikaeme-od3zq I looked it up. There is no explicitly stated age for Belle, but her voice actress (Paige O’Hara) was 30 when she performed the role and estimated Belle to be in her early 20s, so Watson was a good choice and certainly looked the part. Snow White is thought to be 14 in the animated film, and she certainly reads as much younger than Belle with her larger head and higher pitched voice.

What makes me the most livid with this 22 year old is the fact that she fails to realize that Snow White (and pretty much all the classic Disney princesses) WERE strong, WERE smart, WERE clever, WERE leaders, WERE self sufficient, she’s just too (I’m giving her much credit here that she most likely doesn’t deserve), young and ignorant to see past the surface story and see into the deeper characteristics and traits of these princesses. How many times do old school Disney princesses stick their necks out, go against the crowd, use their own hutzpah to get their shit together, on their own, and figure out what needs to happen to solve their own problems and make their lives better? The irony is that this actor comes across as the opposite of fearless, brave, and true. Snow White would smile sweetly and then punch this girl in the throat.

One of the most disillusioning things you can do with modern media is watch an interview with ANY of the young female cast members. Because modern media that's actually good enough to sit through *usually* still writes their female leads as (basically) being the girl next door. The archetypal "good girl" who's generally sweet and demure. Then you hear the actress behind that character's unfiltered valley girl inflection and see her obnoxious valley girl mannerisms and it becomes IMPOSSIBLE to see that actress as anything other than what she is IRL. (Example: Yellowstone's Kelsey Asbille. Woof.)

Thank you, @TheCriticalDrinker for defending the strikes against your fellow critic who doesn’t seem to understand the validities of it. To say actors shouldn’t be paid every time their work is shown on television is an incredibly outdated statement. Actors have been receiving residuals for DECADES. Only recently with streaming have actors and writers not received residuals for streams and views. And the streaming services won’t release their streaming numbers, so it’s quite shady. And it’s not about whether Rachel or Mark will receive residuals. You’re absolutely right. It’s about the day players and all the underpaid actors and writers. I’m astounded how few people realize this and think these strikes are just about overpaid celebrities wanting more money. It’s absolutely about the other 95% of the industry. For some reason, the disrespect to Snow White is ticking me off more than other IPs. I think it's because, even though the movie's not flawless, Snow White's importance to both animation and film as a whole means it should get a certain amount of respect by default, especially considering how long it's lasted. So many movies get lost to time and yet Snow White is not only still played today, but is also still super iconic. It's insane to take a movie like that and say "It needs to be updated to modern sensibilities."

Exactly, it just feels like it should be spoken about with reverence. Snow White was not just some cartoon, it was a milestone in cinema history. I would have expected someone who has built a career making movies to have some sense of appreciation for its incredible legacy, not sneer at it like something she found on the bottom of her shoe. The fact that she can't come up with a single intelligent remark about the film's history reveals what an arrogant, ignorant little airhead she is.

The 1937 Snow White & The Seven Dwarves is not only what put Walt Disney's company on the map, is not only the highest grossing animated film of all time with adjusted inflation at 2.6 billion, it is a piece of animation & film HISTORY. It stands the test of time. There are still thousands of people dressing as the characters. This new one is likely to bomb, and likely will not be remembered while it is in the Disney vault.

Par for the course at this point. They are speed running what amounts to an insanely expensive filmic s*t posting about their entire production history. Hell, I don’t think any one of them would even consider asking for payment! I also love the frequently glossed-over theme we get with her disguising herself as an old crone to kill Snow White... and never turning back. This woman was so obsessed with undoing another, she even lost sight of the thing she was jealous of in the first place (youth and beauty), gave it up in exchange to destroy someone's life (intentionally turned herself into an old hag), and then died as not a beautiful queen but an old ugly crone. Her obsession literally led her to die as the last thing she wanted to be - and she didn't even realize it.

But it does represent a weakness in women. There are women, today, who were very beautiful in their youth. They've obtained power, prestige, wealth. @HerculesBallsInc

Even more so, I think, is the Queen's transformation into a dragon at the end. She WANTS to be taken for youthful and attractive, but INSIDE she is a fire-breathing monster. This is a key point! Likewise, though the whole of the movie we see that Snow White is not JUST youthful and attractive, but inside she is a genuinely kind and giving person. Even assassins sent to murder her are quickly won over and not just because she is pretty. The underscore to it all is that what the Queen is chasing is ultimately an empty vessel and the true substance is in VIRTUE.

This is a grown ass woman who at this stage of her life should at least have learnt the basics of manners, politeness, the ability for mature debate. I've made this point before on past videos about the Disney remakes (I think the Peter Pan one was the last time I had to bring it up), but it never stops being accurate: YOU CANNOT DEFINE YOURSELF BY WHAT YOU ARE NOT. In all of these interviews, they always say 'she isn't a damsel in distress', 'it's not a love story', 'she doesn't need to be saved by a prince'. Okay, great... so then what the fuck IS the character? What IS the story? You've told us what it isn't, and if we're playing that game it can go on forever. For example, the 'Snow White' remake is NOT an aircraft carrier, nor is it a kind of fruitcake. That still doesn't tell us shit about what it IS though. And the entire reason is because they don't THINK about what it is, they start from a place of wanting to change it, so all they can do is look at the original version and say 'well it's NOT THAT anymore', and that's it.
