I read somewhere that several years ago, Dmitry Glukhovsky, the author of Metro 2033 was approached by some American company and they wanted to make a movie or a TV show based on his book. He agreed, but requested a clause in the contract that he can pull the plug on everything if he is not pleased with the work the writers do on adapting his novel. Basically, they needed his final approval or no filming... One day, they said "Done" and brought the script. He read it and said smth like "What is this?! This is not even close to what I wrote! Forget it"! And it was never filmed... Which is most likely for the best... I wish there was the same clause with the Witcher or Rings of Power... And many other works...

The problem is some authors just want to see a one to one translation of their book to film but the thing is all the stuff readers fill in the gaps with ourselves have to be filled in on script. For example in a book we can be given an inner monologue, or be told a certain amount of time has passed by the narrator and not any specific character but to have two scenes like that back to back there has to be something visually representing that on screen to convey to the audience what's going on.

I have always believed the best decision Peter Jackson made was filming the Lord of the Rings movies in New Zealand. I believe that just being thousands of miles from the studio heads and their spies and minions probably prevented a lot of meddling from outsiders. Jackson says something very interesting in the bonus material, (I think it is from the FotR bonus). He says the Lord of the Rings is the "biggest amateur film ever made". I think he nails the reason why these movies are so successful and relevant today. They weren't the product of multi billion dollar worth overlods who came up with an agenda or a political statement. They were just movies made by a passionate bunch of Tolkien fans who tried to do justice to the books while bringing it to a wider younger audience and doing something fun about it. Basically, these movies were made by people just like us, fans, only more talented than us in their specific field. Which gave life to a very organic production. Like the artist single handedly doing Barad Dur destruction animation during his Christmas holidays. Like these horse riders answering the call and traveling all the way to their own expense with their horse just because they had the opportunity to portray rohirrim for a couple shots in the movie. Like these guys who attached chainmail and lost their fingerprints by the end. Like these countless artists who had the book by their side to channel the best out of their love for Tolkien and his words. That's all, no agenda, no behind the scenes messages, nothing else than fans, love for the source material, and the will to work hard to make the best out of it.

Cavill was easily the best part of the show. However, there some serious problems. 1) the unfocused narrative. It’s all over the place and hard to follow. Casuals would not stick around. 2) The best parts were focused on Geralt, and the show could have built the lore around his story. 3) the triangle between Geralt, Triss and Yennifer was completely dismantled, which is a classic TV staple that retains viewership 4) killing off Roach, who was a more likeable and sympathetic character than most of the humans I can’t help but think that this show would have been better if it was shot in the 90’s. It would have lost at lot of the swearing, graphic violence, nudity and sex (all good things to get rid of in my estimation) and replaced them with a slow burning, episodic narrative that slow built to a season long arc.

It would be unlikely to get a season long arc in the nineties. Also it was really hard to get any sort of passable special effects for a show at the time. It started deviating halfway thru the 1st season. Geralt is a monster killer, and that's pretty much it. Minimal character development other than Geralt. Yes there are other characters but he goes from town to town doing what he's good at. They should have done that pretty much the entire first season and very gradually introduced other characters in following seasons. But the source material is (and always was) secondary. The writers & producers had an agenda that they wanted to push, some social engineering they wanted to do, and they simply wanted a way to put some eyeballs on their message. This is what happened with Rings of Power, too, of course. They said, "What's popular?" And having found that, they took that and wrote their story on top. They never cared about the original stories. And in a way, that's part of what makes the writers and producers hate the fans so much: they resent the fans for wanting the original story and not accepting the idea that the original story never mattered. It's funny in a way. What the writers were like kidnappers who totally expected was a kind of Stockholm syndrome. And it outraged them when some people didn't have it. Good for Henry Cavill. The sad thing is that the writers haven't changed, and they're going to do the same thing with Superman too.

*watches the show after reading the books and playing the games* Wtf did i just see... seriously though, cavill saw the issues years ago but still tried to make it work. His efforts are admirable. Its not just the superman offer. Superman offer coming around was just a nice coincidence. I believe cavill had thoughts about leaving years ago but is truly a genuine great person and really tried despite criticisms. Glad he and we all can move on from this garbage show and insult to the witcher series. The comments attacking fans and claiming they (the showrunners and writters) know better than the fans and the lore already established, are pathetic. Good f*cking riddance.

What is extremely telling is that Henry Cavill has done nothing to dispel the rumors that he is leaving cause the show doesn't follow the source material. He is distancing himself from Season 3. The only thing he has said about Season 3 is that there will be some cool fight scenes because the choreographer from the Blaviken fight (Season 1, Episode 1) is back. Cavill can easily say that Superman is going to take up all his time and he can't do Witcher any more. But he is not saying it. And I'm sure Netflix is begging Cavill to make a statement to protect the show.

He puts on his mask, the crowd screams until my ears ring. He swings at the man as he's running away. A portal opens and captain Europe steps into the scene. Tobey accidentally swings into him He says "it's all good I have healthcare". Crowd cheers, captain Europe had his own TV show in 2048 and this is a reference to his prostate exam episode in season 6 where he makes the same joke. Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield come through the portal and point at each other, making the funny Spider-Man meme again. They all start jerking each other off as the camera zooms out, revealing the Death Star and the Star Wars theme briefly plays. Crowd cheers again before the screen cuts to black and Darth Vader's laugh plays. Post credit scene shows Thanos reappear, and he says, "I'm coming for you Redditors." Crowd cheers one last time, before news sources are saying this is one of the best movies of all time. Thank you Disney for saving the film industry.

I felt like they were sort of on track the first season then they just lost it season two. Sorry of like you saw. But the show was always lacking something. I think it might be the alien polish monster mythology. That was all world building without an immediate emotional reaction like vampires, werewolves and so on. The Bruja was pretty good despite never having heard of one before. I also wonder if it was sort of a harem show without being a harem. And it did seem like a lot of the bad guys were old white men.
@georged.55952 жыл бұрын
@@macmcleod1188 I think you would both like the books (or at least the games) and understand the dislike of the series better, if you read/played them, and why many people believe that Henry left because he felt disappointed with how they handled the story. Trust me everything you said you liked about it, was ten thousand times better in the books and games, Yen was more mature than she was shown in the series (but it is true that she had to pay a high price for her powers, and she ends up finding the child she wants in Ciri), the training with Ciri is much more well-written in Blood of Elves, as she does have to work hard to be able to do what the mutated witchers can do despite her not undergoing any mutations, and the witchers are realistic with her and tell her she's always going to be slower than Coën for example and she isn't doing anything wrong, that's just how things are and she has to learn to work with what she has. But they're also very understanding and friendly towards her which from what I have heard from people who both read the books and watched the show, it wasn't very well shown in the series. The bruxa story is also from the books (possibly with some changes), and if you like vampires then I can strongly recommend the Witcher books and games (the Blood and Wine expansion for the third game especially). Furthermore there are other monsters that are unique or less-well known which are present in the books and I'd say here especially the games, like for example the Leshen or the Hym (but if you are interested in playing the games or consider doing so after reading my comments, please spare yourself the spoilers and _do not look up either of these monsters_, they both appear in Witcher 3 Wild Hunt but they're best discovered by playing, not reading about them on the web.) So yeah I would say that it sounds to me as if you would quite possibly like the books if you were to read them/listen to them (many people liked Peter Kenny's English audiobook) and the games if you were to play them, as they have everything you said you liked about the show but handled each element with more care.

I'm big sad he's left it. He simply crushed it as Geralt.

Similar experience for me with The Resident, a serial medical show here in the US. I'm a general surgeon who did technical advising for the OR/procedural scenes and the show writers obviously hated American medicine and shit on it at every opportunity. They used the show to outright lie about how the system works and grossly misrepresent it on a regular basis in an attempt to demonize it and push socialized medicine. I disassociated myself from the show after season one.
