It's really the best, when you expect nothing and get completely surprised. I usually have some level of expectation and get luke-warmed at best. Took those tires out expecting absolutely nothing and I'm still amazed by how well they did. They didn't just do well for what they are, they did well... period. Those moments don't come along often enough.

I tried this using a set of injora dual stage foams with hair buns after watching this video. They are similar to the ones you used but the blue ring inside is a little thinner. I really like the feel of them as it allows a little more compression of the sidewall. With the hair buns I don't have the problem of the outer foam shifting sideways when turning. They seem to be more self centering. Love your videos and your thinking outside the box. Keep up the good work.

Great Combo! Can't wait for more tests with this setup. I just put 4.19 Landmines with the blue closed cell ring out of 4.75" PL dual stages inside on my 8.5 lb 10.3 Bronco and it's fantastic! On the stock wheels they fill out the width and leave a couple of mm air gap to give just the right amount of squish.
@v65sabreking Жыл бұрын
I put small hair buns on the red injora dual stage rubber inner and they work great .
@Dreiviertel Жыл бұрын
Did this also because the red inner ring adds a nice weight to the wheels. But my buns were constantly moving on top of the ring, which I didn't like. Maybe i try to sand the top of the ring, to give the buns more grip, because I did like the performance of that combo.
@craigpimlott2047 ай бұрын
Used that combo myself on 108mm super swampers on a 6x6 rig they work brilliantly ..
@Andy_Yates Жыл бұрын
I mounted up a set of the timtin dual stages with some Holds and had to shave about a mm off each side of the inner so they wouldn't need so much squish to mount the beadlock. I used a fresh xacto blade but was wishing I had a wide 6" belt sander to give each a quick zoop on the belt. I think it would be fast enough to not generate too much heat / melt them. What surprising performance from the inners + hair buns! This would have been a video I'd be curious to see same day performance from the pinseekers for reference. I wonder a little bit if the recently dried rock+ previous rain also made a difference. I also think you drive as much off camera as you do on camera so maybe you already drove the pinseekers that day? Either way Baseline looked incredible with these foams 👍👍

You got me sold on your channel, and this set up. I recently bought medium/ large hairbuns at a local doller store. They were just a tad bit too small on injora method racing type beadlocks. I was going to buy xl hairbuns on Amazon. I ended up ordering injora red inner duel stage foams as they were half the price of getting xls buns here in Canada. I still haven't installed them. Now I will use the hairbuns I got with the inner red rings, and it should fill out the tires nicely. Thanks for the idea. I also subbed.

Canyon Trails are the most underrated tires. I run hair buns till a year in rocky rivers the traction surprise me.Maybe you test the dual foams again in a realy sticky tire for next test.
@piercetheheavens Жыл бұрын
I did this as well but because i have a strip of wheel weights on the inner ring the dual stage kept sliding left to right. I will eventually need to cut out a groove so the closed cell stays in place over the wheel weight strip. Treal wheels are very good at holding the bead. I was also running double dollar store hairbuns in each canyon trail tire myself for a wider and not as tall stance. Also ran double hair buns with the proline krawlers.

"That was totally wicked!!!" -Random kid on a tricycle, The Incredibles ;} I've considered trying this before, but I run Gmade 1904's, which have such heavy ribbing that I didn't think they'd benefit. However... the sidewalls support well, but the bead-edges still fold a bit, especially on the fronts. After seeing your vid here, I might try putting something around the beadlock rings to brace the sidewall bases- I have some little 1.9 car tires that might work.. :] Thank you, friend! You give me lots of inspiration, and your ideas are top-notch. Looking forward to whatever comes next. :D

Another banger vid! Just got a Phoenix straight axle that I'm trying to decide 1200, 1800, or pro. Is the 2300kv Pro really worth the price Difference? Thanks for the great vids! Been learning alot!
@CrawlerCanyon Жыл бұрын
Much as I love the Pro (I have three) I genuinely prefer the SE 1800 in the straight axle Phoenix. I don't notice the "bluntness" of the Fusion SE on a VFD Twin. Or I've gotten used to it. I would say buy an SE, and put the other 70 bucks toward a set of knuckle weights (the KYX are excellent) and a 1TenthRC BOCO link riser. Way more bang for the buck than just upgrading to the Fusion Pro.
@Br0rB Жыл бұрын
This is intriguing. I just bought some Proline Interco TSL SX XL Super Swampers, and want to do a decent foam setup for them. I already have a set of Injoras knock offs of the same tire, with some Injora dual stage foams in them, and they work quite well, but the outer part of the foam feels a bit too stiff. This dual stage hairbun thing looks like it would work really well. What size hairbuns would I need, you think? The tires are 121mm tall. Would I need a 12-13cm hairbun, or a much smaller one? The ones you're running look a lot smaller than what I've been looking at. Figured I'd buy some Injora dual stage foams and use the inner foam from those.

So i followed your double bun recipe down to a T. I got the Amazon medium hair buns and Amazon dual stage foams. I mounted them up to an Amazon beadlock and Proline Trenchers 1.9 - 4.75. They came out very stiff and does not have an "air-ed down" look at all. Any tips?

Injora steelies WIDE vs NARROW for this...? On Element axles.
@CrawlerCanyon Жыл бұрын
I would choose based on the body. If you don't have fender coverage, might as well go with the wides and enjoy the bit of extra width (and stability.) The narrows have about the same offset as any typical removable SLW 1.9 wheel, so if you're already running something like that, the narrows will be the same. The wides will add about 10mm per side.

@CrawlerCanyon Жыл бұрын
Coming from the "olden times," I can vividly remember the VERY Ford v. Chevy rivalry that exists between Associated and Losi guys-- like, one would NEVER drive the other. It was crazy then, crazy now. But Traxxas hate is it's very own thing-- there are people who will talk trash on Traxxas having never in their lives even driven one, much less owned one. I can say with some conviction that the hobby wouldn't be where it is today (that is: reasonably successful) without Traxxas.
