Absolutely love this movie. You'd think a movie called "Drive" is going to be fast paced and action packed, but this movie is slow, determined, thoughtful, and deliberate, just like The Driver.

The Driver (1978), directed by Walter Hill and starring the recently departed Ryan O'Neal, was highly influential on Drive. I definitely recommend it if you liked Drive.

Highly influential. I think your being nice. Drive pretty much lifted entire scenes from that film. And the opening chase is literally almost shot exactly the same. Also baby driver is influenced by the driver hence the name being an homage to the driver. Same character names as well

@freddyjosereginomontalvo4667 Definitely, and Le Samouraï itself was also inspired by the classic film noir, This Gun For Hire (1942), starring Alan Ladd & Veronica Lake. Jean Pierre-Melville was a huge fan of the gangster films of the 1930's and film noir of the 1940's, and that shows throughout his films.

The Driver is an awesome movie. Walter Hill rules Stylistically tho, this movie rips off Michael Mann hard. Me and a buddy saw it in theatres, at a certain point I said all this needs is a badly green screened composite shot of LA at night, a minute later that shot was on screen and we laughed out loud.

One of my favorite movies. The directing, music and acting came together perfectly, Ryan became one of my favorite actors in this movie and I discover Oscar here where he brought depth to a character that could have been one dimensional. First scene is my favorite car chase scene and the Bryan and Albert death scene was so different and creepy.

@@Woozlewuzzleable Yes, The elevator scene is confrontational, both are playing the same game, but in the garage scene there is a helplessness and condescending element that goes much deeper for me in the emotional level. P.S. Elevator is brutal, garage is cruel, so to speak.

Thief ( Michael Mann ) and Drive are two of my favorite films. Thief being in my top 5… but the characters are so engaging. Both films different in tone. Both slow paced and electric. Seeing Drive in theaters I knew from the opening credits it was gonna be a home run. Just like seeing Thief for the first time on dvd. Great video!

This is my favorite movie ever honestly. And it wouldnt be as great as it is with Gosling, because, he is most amazing when he is acting without speaking and the SOUNDTRACK! PERFECT SOUNDTRACK! I immediately got the book and read it after the movie and could not believe that this INCREDIBLE movie came from a short story! So when I heard that Refn and Gosling made another movie, I was SO excited, and then so disappointed when I watched it. I mean, WTF happened to THAT?! (But, is there ANYTHING else better than the look on Goslings face in the elevator after he bashes that guys skull to bits wit his foot?!?! NO!)

Drive is a great fucking movie, I don't remember why I watched it at first but I was glad I did. Just a great movie in every way. The chases and action have enough punch behind them here to make them work and it not be a pure action picture, the added elements drama and character development are what really suck you in. Can't recommend this movie highly enough.

It’s my theory that the iconic kiss in the elevator is imaginary on the part of the Driver. The change in the way the scene is lit gives a clue. It’s what he is wishing could happen, right before he has to take action to protect her that ensures that it never will.

Drive, Nightcrawler and The Place Beyond the Pines all came out within a few short years of each other and wow are they realistic unhollywood like and intriguing. I was blown away by how good all 3 of those films were dark tone honest realistic view of a character no real happy ending just the struggle of living life. Hollywood switch gears to endless superhero bullshit films and its a real shame we don't get more films like these. How many Fast and Furious movies are there now I lost count. Looked the generic always good superhero saved the world again golf clap even Ant Man and Deadpool going against type just tired of it all. But somehow The Boys keeps me coming back to it.

Easily the best soundtrack I've ever bought. Went right home to download it after seeing the movie! I love Ryan Gosling in this, he has the Steve McQueen vibe of saying little but meaning more. More actors need to do this, not every scene needs someone filling it with extra lines or quips. The elevator scene is amazing, is makes the audience and Irene realise what the Driver is capable of. I love the GTA setting of the movie, or the Drive inspiration in GTA. Don't know which.
