The f type quickly lost ground on its competition in my eyes for reasons you mentioned. I wanted something a bit more driver focused. I decided against the Cayman s as I really wanted the gts (gt4 would be nice :D) which was out of my price range. I also couldn't deny a nice big NA V8 before I possibly join the forced induction crew (997 turbo manual transmission).

On another I was allowed to look at a brochure, at the salesmans desk. I walked into a Porsche dealership with two weeks of beard, old jeans and a t-shirt and drove half a dozen cars. Bought one. It was so easy and the service has been great. GM just does not have the infrastructure to sell or service their awesome Corvette. Sad but true.

Recently I was browsing around a Porsche dealership in a dreamstate where I saw 5 Caymans in 5 different colours. The 3 that stood out the most to me were the Sapphire Blue, Agate Grey and Rhodium Silver, with light Pebble Grey interiors. Out of those 3 it would be between the Sapphire Blue and Rhodium Silver which both show the Cayman's lines really well without being too in yer face, but they're way too expensive. A new, (almost fully loaded), Cayman is £65-£70K ($109-$117K.) Lovely looking car though, and if I was in the market for a small 2 seater sportscar it would be a very tough choice between the Cayman S and the Jaguar F Type Coupe, which is as equally gorgeous in the metal.
@therealbajan5228 жыл бұрын
Loving this Cayman a lot, Porsche did a bang up job keep it up and the Cayman will drive the obsolete 911 extinct (Porsche is terrified of this reality but as long as the Cayman exists they know one day this reality will come to fruition), The Majority of Young and new generation buyers will not buy the 911 for its heritage or really care about its heritage or classic look, They will simply to buy the Porsche that looks and drives the best That car is the Cayman.

@lostboys82974 жыл бұрын
@@stu4181 Not going to argue the point as a Boxster S owner but there is a market for the more GT oriented 911 and it does have a back seat to store a few more easy to grab essentials while touring or commuting. Maybe even a pup or two. I see a market for both cars and not a pissing match between them. Porsche never wanted these cars to compete with each other. They were kind enough to build them both for us to enjoy. I'm looking to get a Cayman S because I just like the way they look. But I love the top down experience in the Boxster. I think that is the hardest decision for me.
@stu41814 жыл бұрын
GS Riders of Velocity Cycles. Yes re reading my comment it was a bit more flippant than my usual ones. I honestly believe Porsche has held the cayman/boxster back for years as it knows it’s the better sports car. The 911 ok is a better GT but surely there are better options for a GT car either a panamera so you have some useable rear seats or another manufacturer maybe an m5 if you can stomach the depreciation. ( a member of the car club I’m in reported getting a 6 month old m5 comp 3k miles on it for 60k which seems great value for that much car compared to a 911 c4 ? Understand the boxster vs cayman dilemma I had it recently myself, the ease of cleaning a hard top and the slightly sharper chassis won out for me. I have just come out of an original z4 though so had done the soft top thing recently. So That could be a factor.... A friend taking me out through tunnels in a 981 GTS cayman got me into Porsche’s in the first place!

Honestly, I was never a big Porsche fan, but I rented a standard Boxster with manual transmission (mainly because it was the only sporty car to rent nearby) for a weekend and I my only complain was indeed the steering feel. It was precise and everything but somehow the steering in my good old 323i feels more alive. Yes, I would love to buy something more hardcore one day, but then I probably wouldn't want to take a car like an Elise on a long trip to the alps, where I had to use motorways and drive in bad weather conditions. So, as I favour coupés over convertibles, I really can't think of anything that would compare to a Cayman on the current market. Especially since the looks are just right.

I don't agree with MrC7 regarding Porsche, but he is right that the Vette has a lot of trickle-down features from the C6R program. Most of the tweaks made to the C6 over its run come from this program, and if you read the white paper on the C7 this holds true as well (even little things like radiator placement). Also, 72hp/L is pretty mega for a pushrod engine; just like NA vs. turbos, one has to adjust their expectations based on configuration. Power to weight is where pushrods impress.

guys, bring back the weirder shows like live and let drive, the old road testament and especially Shakedown. They may not have had much views, but they were what gave this channel its personality and what made it different from the others

If you want all of your cash just spent on the motor then that's great. Fit, finish and interior are worlds apart, and overall driving experience on a set of twisty roads will show you a clear winner. You can never mask weight under braking and turn-in, so the 981 will always have the edge.......however bang for your buck the Chevy is great value.

Great video Chris. That track looks sublime, especially in the sun. I'm trying to remember what sun feels like in Cheshire....nope I can't.

I was driving a ST focus ( still have it !) until three months ago then I brought my dream car … a 2006 987.1 cayman in basalt black now both these cars run at about the same spec for power and such but ……… the cayman is such a hoot to drive !! It sounds so much better than the piped in sound of the focus, don’t get me wrong the ST is a fantastic car but the cayman ……what a car Don’t think about getting ( any model of cayman ) one …. Just do it You won’t regret

For $300 a day you can rent a brand new 2013 Cayman S in Las Vegas. I was there two weeks ago and did so. Went to the Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon. It was brilliant. It was quick (but not staggeringly fast). Handles veryyyyy well.
