In the opinion of many, there is only one model of BMW, and that is the E39 530i 2002 or 2003, manual or automatic transmission. Most of the others are nothing but trouble sooner or later. I have a 1999 528iT (Estate) and a 2003 530i. I took Estate on a 4,000 mile trip this year with no issues. Not even coolant or oil, didn't use a drop of either and it has 268,000 miles. Averages 25mpg. Despite the factory recommendation, I maintain 34psi all around.

@@BigHumz155 There is simply no need for aftermarket parts. The original parts are more than capable of keeping the car in its ideal temperature range under ANY conditions. I guess I’ve “Richard Hammond’ed” my e60 twice. It’s a 535xi, fyi. At about 110,000 miles was driving a friend to an airport 5 hours away on a 90° day and killed the water pump, and made it to the airport on time. At 160,000 miles ran through the gears to about 80 and blew the well aged coolant lines off of the turbos. Second one was expensive. Long live the e60!! I like BMW's but they are an absolute pain to work on if you don't have all the right tools. You can tell they were designed for production line efficiency and not ease of maintenance, both on the cars and motorbikes. You have to take half the vehicle apart if you have to get something that is behind a body panel, which is really frustrating. Changing the headlights on certain models means taking he entire front end off. Their engine management software and other electronics are also cumbersome if you don't have the computer to fix it all. Such a shame, because they're often great cars (depending on the model) It is great to see a pro work on one though, Dara knows them inside out and makes it look so easy! Lots of respect for this man and his dedication.
@BrianGon892 жыл бұрын
Amen on that
@apodski2 жыл бұрын
A lot of BMW are the exact opposite of this, meanwhile there are far more mundane cars that are a service nightmare. Like the e46, quite simple to work on, about the only special tools needed are a $15 cooling fan spanner and an advanced scanner. V10 m5 is definitely not on of those bmw's tho. Notoriously a maintenance disaster.
@Yvolve2 жыл бұрын
@@apodski I'm talking about how it is put together, which has been the same for all modern BMW's. They are not designed to work on, but to assemble quickly on a production line. How much does that advanced scanner cost? Exactly. I've never come across a car as poorly designed for maintenance as a BMW, with the possible exception of Peugeot.
@BrianGon892 жыл бұрын
@@Yvolve Yeah this is exactly it, the access points to parts. You get the impression pretty easily that they're meant to be assembled in big chunks and not taken apart with enough space unless you remove all the other junk around whatever you're getting at. Servicing japanese makes kind of spoils you for that extra thought.
