Appreciated brother! You ain't lying and the temps are only on the rise, gonna be in the thick of it here soon! I've been doing these single-packet Pedialyte powder things in lieu of Gatorade' and it been a game changer (way cheaper per oz as well). Slam down 8oz of that goodness before a driveway and I'm ready to roll. Happy 4th!

Keep up the great work. It turned awesome! I can tell that it hadn’t been sealed before, just by the look of the texture. How do you usually estimate linear feet for crack filling? Do you measure each crack? Or, do you just eyeball it? I love that you disclose how long it took to do, and how many square feet it measured 👍. Other channels leave out that important information. Sounds like the extensive crack filling consumed lots of your time.

Appreciated buddy! Yep, this one was in pretty rough shape as you can. Asphalt in this condition tends to use more sealer per square foot and a bit more crackfill with the ridges/valleys vs smoother asphalt, so you want to keep that in mind. There's only one way to get accurate measurements (and bid accordingly) for the crackfill and that's by walking each foot off with a measuring wheel. Better in the long run to keep the historical data that we can use for P/L adjustments. For extremely large lots with extensive cracking, we'll get an average on a 20'x20 area and then extrapolate that over the entire lot. You'd only want to do that when your bidding the job by the weight of the crackfill used vs the linear feet and then can work back the charges with customers at the end. Crackfilling does take up a good portion of the project, especially since we have to blow all the sand back off once we're done. I should have brought my second kettle to speed things up but didn't think it was going to be this bad. You'll see that in action in next week's video. Thanks again for watching and for the support!

Was that sand y'all spread on top of the crack filler? That's a step other videos people do don't show. What is the purpose and do you always do that, or is it a circumstantial type thing? Loaded comment sorry

What's up, Joel! Yep, it's a fine shot blasting abrasive sand, "Black Diamond - Coal Slag 60 grit" We throw it over every single foot of hot rubber we lay down, every time. We'll throw it and then blow it off once we're about to sealcoat. A bit of an extra step, but something we're able to charge more for. Benefits include; being able to open the parking lot immediately after crackfilling (if you do a lot of commercial work), being able to walk/pull the truck over the hot material without shoes and tires sticking/pulling up the tacky rubber, the sealer will absorb better into the gritty material vs the glossy rubber that's initially laid and then helps the crack repairs blend into the finished product. No loaded comments here brother, I'm an open book and hope I helped answer the questions. Thanks again for watching & the support.

@@royerfromjersey that's great info! I'm looking to buy my first equipment to do sealcoat and striping. Just trying to learn all I can while I'm looking for equipment. I'm gonna start as barebones as I can and upgrade as I go.

@@joelmarcy8027 Congrats brother! If you're on Facebook, check out and join the "Asphalt/Sealcoating Equipment new/used for sale" group. You'll see good deals floating around, especially in the Winter as it's sort of the thick of the season right now. That and FB marketplace / Craigslist if you haven't already. CL is where I found my first unit. Shoot me any questions along the way! Happy to help

Yep! We use "Black Beauty" Sandblasting abrasive / sand over the hot rubber. Red bag from Tractor Supply, you want the fine stuff!

I love that crackfilling machiine. How much do those typically run? I've been with a sealcoating crew for 2 seasons and am really considering starting for myself. What is the best way to start if you have no budget? Where can you find a manufacturer for 5 gallon pails?
@royerfromjersey
@royerfromjersey Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yeah, we love the MA-10 machines. They range between $850-$1,100 depending if you have a local supplier or buy online. It's a great business to make money in if you're willing to put in the work! Bonus, you get the winters off if you do it right. I would save, save and save as much as possible while getting things up and running. Most (5) gallon pails are coming from big-box stores, some places online will sell a whole pallet, but that's not the most cost-effective route with shipping. You mentioned you're currently working for a seal coating company, do you know if you/they fill the material locally? If I had a minimum budget to start up again, I would probably buy a cheap IBC tote tank to hold 150 gallons of sealer > fill up at my local supplier on a trailer back of a pickup truck > use this to fill and feed (5) gallon buckets and bring 3-4 buckets in the truck to start knocking out small jobs. The key is to keep the material mixed and agitated at the shop on your trailer daily to keep it from settling. 150 gallons of sealer should seal roughly 8k square feet of asphalt and net you between $1,800 - $2,000. Rinse and repeat as I re-invested into equipment and marketing spend. Holler with any other questions! Happy to help

@@royerfromjersey the company I work for does use SealMaster for their sealer, and I was curious what the best sealmaster sealer is for residential driveways if I'm not going to be crack filling them while starting out trying to make money to reinvest in. I've looked into it on their site, but am not sure which one to use. The company I work for does use a coaltar base product for all our residential/commercial jobs whether it be squeegee or spray jobs.Was also curious how long can a tote stay unagitated for? They have auto agitated tanks at the yard I work for, so no problem there. I was also curious if I should add sand in the tote for smaller driveway jobs, thanks for the quick response. Love the vids

We brush 100% residentials, and 90% commercials then spray the rest. Big fan of the brush finish but takes more time and patience. Thanks for tuning in brother!

Spraying tends to leave inconsistencies, overspray, and just a lack of overall uniform finish when completed. You'll still need to edge most of the driveway with a broom when spraying, especially near a garage and other tight areas.

Great video @royerfromjersey Love the detail of the video! Is it a specific kind of sand you are laying down on the crack repairs? I am new and like the look of the finished product you are doing
@royerfromjersey
@royerfromjersey Жыл бұрын
Very much appreciated! Yep - there's a specific kind you want to use. It's "Black Diamond" - Coal Slag 60 grit sandblasting abrasive. They sell it at Tractor Supply in 50lb bags and your local sealer supplier should carry it. The red bag is the 60 grit and what you want texture-wise. Their blue stuff is too coarse and makes the crackfill too noticeable through the sealer. The benefit of the sand is you can open the lot right away if you're just crackfilling, eliminates most chances of tires pulling up the rubber once the lot is sealed/reopened and you can walk right over the top of it while you're working without your shoes getting stuck to the pavement! Appreciate you watching!

Do you fill the cracks with sand first or on top of the crack fill? Great video!
@royerfromjersey
@royerfromjersey Жыл бұрын
Very much appreciated! We'll fill the cracks first with the rubber and then throw the sand on top of that. We'll fill any large/deep cracks with a material called Aquaphalt (asphalt) prior to the rubber to fill the large voids.
