Driving in Georgia , up in to the Caucasus mountains was something is we have always wanted to do, so when we hired a car and got on the road, we did exactly that. Heading east we started to ascend from Batumi, on Georgia's Black Sea coast towards the remote village of Khulo. We had planned to arrive in Khulo early afternoon to ride the old Soviet cable cars across the mountain valley (the highest in Europe). But, this is the Caucasus, where things don't always go to plan. As we drive further in to the mountains of Adjara, the roads got worse, the tarmac disappeared, and all that was left was mud tracks, sheer drops in to the valley floor (with no barriers) and rock falls. This was by far the scariest, most stressful drive of our lives and it seems both us, and our car weren't prepared for this...

We drove this road in 2021, from Batumi to Akhaltsikhe. It wasn't great, but possible in one long day. The roadworks are endless. But personally, the road between Poti and Batumi I will always remember as 'death road' because that is a 2 lane road which is turned by the locals into a 3 lane road with the middle lane used in either direction for whoever has the biggest balls.

Love pies with potatoes and they are cheap.! I remember the cows on the road. I went to Tbilisi via marshutka. I fell asleep only to be awoken with the driver swerving to miss a cow , then 3 cows then a herd by going in the opposite ditch. I'm not in Kansas anymore

Aaaah, that's too bad that the cable car was closed! There is (or was, in 2018), a lovely little 'cafe' on the other side, which was really just a man's garden. And then on the way back the cable car 'conductor' stopped the car and opened the door so I could take pictures. ... I definitely only took one or two, a far distance from the open door. 😳 Looking forward to more Georgian adventures!

Unfortunately this isn’t only isolated in one country though, it seems the cost of living is in severe crisis everywhere we’ve visited at the moment 😔 Georgia is still both fantastic and affordable though, so definitely add it to your plans 🥰❤️

Hi Dan 😊 ‘Tak’ in Russian literally translates as, ‘so’, but it is definitely a versatile word and used more than we would ‘so’ in English. I guess it also takes the place of ‘right’ (as in “right, let’s go there?”) and on some occasions is also used like ‘okay’. So yeah, when it I said it to the lady in the shop I was using it like, “right, here you go” 😊 hope this helps! 🙌🏼

Ugh sorry that you got Matt's cold. I would strongly recommend for both you to take at east 10000 IU of D3/K2, zinc and a vitamin C everyday. Truly it stops the virus, any virus, from replicating.
