3 weeks in on keto, I brought up intermittent fasting with my husband and he refused to skip breakfast as breakfast food is his favourite food! I said okay, then we will skip dinner, which was easy for me because I hadn't even been hungry for dinner since starting keto. Now, we have a great breakfast, and a large meal around 2-3 pm, and fast the rest 16:8. He finds he isn't even hungry for dinner anymore either and we don't really feel like we are missing out socially. Our health is more important than social gatherings, during which we simply bring our water bottles and still mingle just fine. We sleep better too without a full stomach.

Now I have come down to 500mg metformin once a day. My eating window is from 10 AM to 4 pm and I have split my 2 meals to the equivalent of 3. This has kept me going psychologically that I ate my 3 meals. My breakfast is the biggest meal, with dinner being the smallest. I also do about 45 minutes of yoga just before I open my fast and 45 minutes cardio in evening around 7 pm. I am soon going to be 50 years in age and have decided to keep this as my lifestyle. When a child, I noticed that after having a late dinner (supper) I would wake up hungry. And if I didn’t eat long enough before bed I wasn’t hungry in the morning. The same went true for the other meals! After missing breakfast I wasn’t hungry for lunch, and if I missed lunch I could well miss dinner! So I came up with a conclusion: the less you eat the less you want it, and vice versa. )) Now I realize that was wise body work!

I have been battling my weight for many years and tried many things, I am also extremely active and spend roughly 2 hours at the gym, but I couldn't shed the excess weight. I tried intermittent fasting (low carb) 6 months ago and it has done wonders for not only my body weight but also my health. I was able to successfully control my diabetes, my A1C went from 11 to 5.2 from my last result. As for skipping meals I find that dinner is easier for me. First as a retail manager my work day is usually from 11-8 which means I won't get home until 9 by then it is easier to just not eat the rest of the night. Also I feel like I'm the opposite. I wake up in the morning and within an hour I get extremely hungry, so I usually break my fast with 2 organic eggs along with coffee w/ cream no sugar. I just want to spend this time to share my experience as well as thank Dr. Fung for your great content, I follow you and Dr. Berg and it has really help me with a lot.

Knowing that skipping dinner is the most effective is very motivating; and knowing it will be easier to skip dinner when I don’t have to worry about being social - such as when I’m traveling, or my boyfriend is gone. Appreciate the tips for dealing with the habit, swapping for a good habit (never heard before about cider vinegar & chia seeds)and especially the tip that hunger just doesn’t continue to build, that to ride the wave, and it will decrease ... For me, keeping busy helps a lot too: sometimes I miss lunch this way without even thinking about it....

CAFFEINE =HIGH CORTISOL= HIGH INSULIN = INSULIN RESISTANCE = FAT. I have lost 45 lbs and over 22 inches overall. I exercise daily and go to the gym 2 to 3 days a week. Quiting all CAFFEINE was a big game changer for me. I'm a 74 yr old female who feels great. Still going on my plan.

Same for me......exactly!!! I feel sickly if I don’t eat breakfast. A lot of people on here have commented that if they eat breakfast, they feel hungry all day. I don’t. I feel satisfied after breakfast and usually don’t get hungry again til 1 or 2.

I only started IF 5 days ago and can already feel my clothes getting looser. I never ate breakfast anyway so all i had to do was restricting my eating window, and ate as much as i wanted, no diet change. The thing is, when you can suppress hunger bangs, you don't wanna eat that much anymore when it's time to eat. Wish i'd known this before.

Thanks Dr Fung ,informative as usual. I skip breakfast as that is the easiest for me to do. Working shifts at a blood donation centre I have to eat my dinner around 8.30 when I get home from work. I have been doing 16:8 for around 6 months and it is going well. Will continue till I reach my goal and then will continue for maintenance.

Excellent presentation. I’ve been a night eater for decades which is detrimental. I’ve noticed I’m not hungry in the morning but always assumed it was because I was still digesting. Will give skipping dinners a try few nights a week including tonight.

I’m new to intermitten fasting. Going on about a month now. I’m still working it out a bit. I started with 16/8. Now I’m adding a 24 hour fast once a week. So far it’s been easier to skip breakfast. And I’m not as hungry as I thought I would be. I break my fast at noon and stop eating at 8 pm since I usually work until 7 pm. But I find I’m not really starving at 8, so I have something small. Lunch is usually where I’ll have the bulk of my food. I have lost 80lbs doing a low calorie diet, but I have hit a plateau. And I can’t seem to loose belly fat. I’ve been finding your videos very educational and so full of great tips. It’s really been helping me start this new journey. My next hurdle is to try and cut back on the carbs. I still find myself counting calories since I’m used to it and since I don’t cook or meal prep I usually eat out at lunch time or have a baked potato with cottage cheese. My breakfast most mornings was low calorie toast with peanut butter and sugar free jelly. But since I’m skipping breakfast I’m not having that bread in the morning. Hopefully I’ll break this plateau and learn to eat better. Thank you.

I wo t eat again until 12 or 1 pm the following day. I rarely have issues with low blood sugar or anything( not diabetic, though ) . I fast for a minimum of 18 hours. In Italy children go to school 6 days a week but are home in time for lunch. Lunch around 1:30 is traditionally a family meal time. On the down side dinners are often late at night but usually less calories. Breakfast is largest for persons with physically active occupations.

Thanks Dr. Fung for the information you've been providing online. I've been intermittent fasting since January 1, where I eat three days a week and fast four days a week (nothing to eat). I typically fast Monday and Tuesday, eat Wednesday, and then fast Thursday and Friday, and then eat Saturday and Sunday. I haven't restricted what I eat when I break my fast, and don't exercise regularly. On the days I fast, I just drink water and take vitamin D and a multivitamin, and an electrolyte (no calorie) supplement. I also drink a couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar each day. I've lost 40 pounds so far. Weight loss is slowing down, but I have experienced other benefits of fasting, including lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and less joint pain. I have no end date to when I will stop fasting, but will probably see how far my current routine takes me, and then modify my fasting days and meal plan.

People need to learn that food is fuel. It is not a form of entertainment. Think of your body like a car. You fill it up to take a trip. Not to park it. Same basic principle. Eat a large meal to start your day as fuel. Dinner is the meal to skip. Weight falls off. Especially combined with OMAD Carnivore & an occasional 24 or 48 hour fast.

I find supper to be the easiest meal to skip for me, especially since I began intermittent fasting (18:6 right now). Everything is low carb...basically Ketovore at this point.

Wow, new knowledge to me! I didn’t know people are hungriest in the evenings! I’m hungriest in the late morning as I wake up very early at 5 am. Thus, I skip dinner which isn’t anti-social since I sit at the dinner table & drink green tea while my husband & older teenager eat & chat. If I need to go out for a meal, then I skip breakfast or lunch. Intermittent fasting isn’t hard as I’m fortunate to be brought up by parents who just don’t snack generally. If you are truly hungry, there are only apples (no ice cream, no chocolates nor crisps) and apples are so filling, you can’t binge on them? But I suspect that if one comes from a family that habitually snacks, it must be hard to skip a meal daily. And also not snack at all to make up for lost meals? It’s partly hormonal & partly a long-inherited habit/way of life for which I’m thankful to my late parents. Since starting just a few months ago, I find I’m no longer lethargic due to old age.

I'm a recovering diabetic whose BMI is just in the obese range. I have 20kgs to lose! My tip is OMAD (one meal a day). Over the last 2 weeks I have skipped breakfast and lunch, and taken care of what I eat in the evening. No bread (definitely no bread!), No rice, pasta or potatoes. No alcohol (especially beer). Oily fish and white meat plus salads, stir fry and roasted veggies. My target is 85 kgs from 110. I've already lost 5kg. This regime will last til July 1st where I will reassess my diabetes situation and my weight. If I have set a new target, so be it!

Male 54. I was 200lbs at 5’8” 24 months ago. Began 16:8 timed eating. Feeding window 1pm - 9pm. Lost 20 pounds. However, I also do 200 minutes a week of fasted cardio in the AM, and lift for 30 min 6 days a week. My TDEE is 2,900 calories. I usually hit that or a slight deficit for a few days when I feel a bit chubby or have a cheat meal. Chicken, Fish, lean beef and pork, turkey, beans, brown rice, egg whites, chick pea pasta, frozen plain bagged veggies. That’s my program. Haven’t varied in weight by more than 2-3 pounds in over a year. MAIN POINT: calculate your TDEE. It’s all thermodynamics. Calories in vs. Calories burned.
@LTPottenger3 жыл бұрын
Wrong. Your body burns whatever you have been eating for months without weight gain, anything else is pure bs because your body decides how much it will burn, not you, even as low as 800 calories a day. And losing 20 pounds is nothing. If you lose 100 lbs and keep like me it off then your opinion may matter.

I’m the same way. I have been that way my whole life. I’ve never cared about dinner. I like to eat breakfast within an hour or so of waking and then a big meal around 2. I sleep like a baby. My husband is a dinner eater and he always has sleep disruptions. I think it’s because his body is trying to digest and rest at the same time.

A very informative video. I have seen most of your lectures (via You Tube) and I have been following the TMAD regime. and it is the best for me. I have lived in France for 35 years. Obesity wasn't a problem a couple of decades ago and is now becoming a problem because of what I term... 'the supermarket diet.' Before this came to be, we ate and still do to some extent, only foods in season. Loads of vegetables and salads.. and a standard baguette was enough to feed a family of four. We also adhered to one rule, Never, ever go to bed on a large meal, so something light such as a salad or fruit or soup and cheese in the evening. The mediteranean diet, here in the south of France is a way of life. We do not count the carbs contained in the wonderful foods available on the market, such as the miniscule difference between green peppers and red peppers. Carrots and potatoes and other root vegetables in the winter make a wonderful soup. My point is, that the advice on a keto diet is restrictive when it shouldn't be. The advice is full of over explanations of carbs, vitamins and minerals which is confusing and often quite boring. (I am (was) a nutitionist by profession and even I find this over egging of the pudding quite unneccesary) or, it may be because i am 75 and have other persuits than worrying over each miniscule of carbs, or pricking my finger to find out if I am in Ketosis. Or maybe I have forgotten all I learned? I eat my first and main meal at 3.p.m. (the spanish wait until 4p.m) it is fish / meat , vegetables, and fruit. and cheese for dessert. Supper as it is called, is maybe some cold meats, but mostly a soup made from the 'dreaded, carb loaded ' vegetetables which give most Keto You Tubers a heart attack! ...and a salad. We also drink wine ! A couple of glasses with lunch and maybe a glass at supper, but, loads of water too. This has been our way for centuries as it was with the Romans and the Greeks and most Mediterranean countries. We, have always used butter for cooking. In Asia, the 'dreaded' rice and flatbread seems to sustain a healthy body weight and is their staple diet. Poverty and low wages prevent an excess. They too cook with butter, or ghee to be precise; It seems to me that is it the quantity and poor quality of supermarket rubbish that is the problem. and if we are to live our lives counting every morsel of food (carbs) that passes between our lips, then our quality of life suffers. Fasting and intermittent fasting solves this problem of excess !! With a sensible attention to good food and not processed pesticide ridden rubbish, then some seasonal root veggies and fruit are not 'the enemy' Flat bread made from flax, chickpea flour and buckwheat is a staple of most 'poor' countries: Sliced white bread ..although flat.. was not found here in France until a decade ago. and I have never been offered it in any french household...and I am at a loss to understand how one mops up our delicious tomato, wine and onion sauces... ( oops! Warning keto kids ! tomatoes and onions contain sugar )... without bread or a simply boiled new potato..I have no idea! As I said, I am 75, I do not take any pills or potions. I do not have a doctor, let alone visit one. My two daughter in their 50's have been brought up on the mediterannean way of life and they have no medical problems either. In conclusion, it is the american diet which is the cause of all their ills,.. and since the 1950's , the exportation of it,...has been the downfall of ours. In the words of Captain Fung,... ''Eat less, live long, and prosper.'' . .

As a school kid I was never hungry in the morning so never had breakfast. When I went to uni for some reason I got into the habit of breakfast and then was hooked and would literally feel starved if I didn’t have it. When I started work I’d wake at 5.15am partly to include breakfast - it was such a hassle and like Dr Fung says I could have just spent that time getting additional sleep which would have been more beneficial. However better late than never and now have been a week delaying breaking my fast until 12pm and contrary to Kellogg’s and co. I haven’t spontaneously combusted or anything lol. After a few days I started getting regular morning bowel movements and I’m looking forward to plenty of others benefits in my future also - mainly of course my fat melting away 😊
